Hey everybody and welcome to gardening with Ben
0:04
We're going to be giving you a tour of our allotment what it's looking like in January today
0:09
So sit back, relax and enjoy today's episode. So we're down here on the allotment after all the snow what we had last week but we thought we'd give you a little tour of what it's looking like at the moment as obviously quite a few people want to see how well things are looking
0:45
So yeah, let's stop the talking, let's do the tour and let's see what's growing and what's not growing
0:51
So let's enjoy it. So we're down here on the allotment so let's give you a tour of what is growing. Let's see what's happening down here
0:59
happening down here at the plot. So as always, we start off at the front of the plot
1:04
And as you can see, we've got bulbs coming through, somewhere coming out of the ground
1:08
We need to push them back in. But yeah, the bulbs are starting to pop through
1:13
which is a fantastic sign. Hopefully, we'll have lots of spring color down here
1:18
at the front of the plot. The heather is looking absolutely beautiful. It's coming on really, really well
1:24
I'm so pleased that I planted that heather. It will what I got at a discount
1:29
at B&Q and they were selling it off and I thought, oh, I'll give it a try. And wow, it has done
1:34
fantastic year on year. Hopefully it'll keep spreading and hopefully keep growing every year
1:42
But yeah, we've got lots and lots of bulbs popping through in all the gaps. So hopefully we're
1:47
going to have a beautiful spring array of colour all down here at the front. You can see the
1:53
tulips popping through. Yes, you can see everything's starting to grow, which is
1:59
fantastic as I spent so much money on bulbs this year, well last year to plant because last
2:05
year it didn't do as well but hopefully we'll have lots and lots of colour growing. We've got loads
2:12
more bulbs here, absolutely loads. The squirrel's not pinched them all. But yeah, hopefully we're
2:20
going to have a fantastic amount of colour down here at the front of the plot this year. This was
2:25
only a little miniature plant when I bought this originally. It one of those ones that smell of lemon Wow it massive now Look at this But yeah absolutely gorgeous
2:41
We've still got a few berries out and about for the birdies to eat
2:50
But yeah, we've got loads of bulbs dotted all around as borders
2:56
They don't seem to be as many bulbs coming through in this front area. Hopefully we get some colour and hopefully it looks good
3:05
But yeah, we need to try and sort out some of these front beds and have a nice entrance feature next this year
3:13
That is our lavender what was growing. Hopefully it comes back next year and hopefully it looks better
3:20
We've got a load of bulbs popping up in here as well, which is fantastic
3:23
I know there were a load of tulips in there, wasn't you? So hopefully it's all them coming through
3:29
but I do love high sims that is one thing that I do love
3:34
But yeah, we've got all those fruit trees. We've not pruned them this year
3:38
as I didn't get many cooking apples on it last year. So we've left it as it is
3:43
We've trimmed off a few what we're getting in the way and crossing each other. But yeah, hopefully we get some good fruit this year on here
3:50
And we've got us rhubarb popping through. But yeah, that won't make the proper start
3:56
until around April time when it'll start growing. But yeah, we've got lots to turn in, lots to clear up, lots to tidy
4:04
Down here. We've got loads of bulbs in here as well. Hopefully they all come through and look good
4:10
We've got absolutely loads in here. We've got tulets, we've got alliums, we've got crocuses, we've got daffodils, we've got hyacymns
4:16
But yeah, hopefully, a fantastic array of colour. We've got us, I can't remember what they call it now
4:24
Salvia. We've got a salvia growing as well. Hopefully that comes back and it doesn't die off
4:29
this year. But yeah, lots of bulbs coming out and about. We've got us bird feeder up
4:42
Got to keep the birds fed. And we've got his wildlife camera, just in case we spot anything
4:47
Fantastic down here. So we're now in the shed. And as you know, I dug up all my geraniums at the end of the year
4:55
and I brought them inside. So hopefully keep them alive and keep them
4:59
growing they not looking too bad summer a bit poor but yeah hopefully we get some we can plant these back out in spring time might have to trim them back a bit That one got a flower coming on it But yeah these are all the sweet peas
5:15
what we're planted in October, and these will be going out in springtime
5:20
We started them off early because it makes them stronger, and we've proven them all back to make them busier
5:26
They'll get smaller flowers on them, but they'll get more flowers on them, if you get them
5:30
So hopefully we get some fantastic sweet peat. we've got absolutely loads planted
5:35
So hopefully they all grew well. And then we've got loads of other plants, flowers, what we've plotted on
5:43
Don't ask me the names because I forgot to put labels in them. We've got some labels in, Holyoke
5:49
So yeah. And these are all our salvia cuttings that we took as well
5:54
Some are doing well, some aren't, but hopefully we get some extra plants for next year
5:59
This is the black currant for the smelling one. So it smells a black currant
6:03
grew absolutely phenomenal so that's why I took lots of cuttings to try and get some new plants
6:09
for this year and then we've got some more flowers growing we've got another salvia variety there
6:18
growing at the back so hopefully we can plant those out as well in springtime and then here we've
6:25
got some loopings growing what we've grown from seed they're looking all right actually I'm
6:30
quite impressed with them so hopefully we'll get some fantastic looping down here on the allotment as well this year
6:37
A lot more sweet peas, a lot more flowers growing. So yeah, we've got lots of lots of flowers planted
6:44
So hopefully we get some good colour and some great, beautiful flowers down here this year
6:50
So we're back outside. So yeah, we've got loads of spring bulbs in here as well
6:54
You can see some Martial looks popping through. But yeah, we've got a bulb lasagna here, which we're trying this year
7:01
We've never done a bulb lasagna before. different bulbs on different layers. So we'll see what that comes out like
7:09
We've been sorting out all those canes for as Logan berries. What are growing
7:15
So hopefully lots of Logan berries this year. We've got those blueberries
7:20
We need to tidy them up, sort them out, put some fresh, ericacious compost in
7:24
We've got all this strawberry plants outside. So hopefully it will get lots of strawberry plants
7:29
We planted about 200 plants at the end of last year. Hopefully we get lots and lots of strawberries this year
7:36
We got us grape vine Hopefully we get some grapes on it this year I didn get no grapes last year We see how we get on We still got a bit of snow coming Down this side we got lots of different varieties at Alliums
7:50
So hopefully some beautiful purple colours down this side. But yeah, this is the plot
7:59
We've obviously got our climbing roses, what are doing well. We pruned all them back
8:04
We've got us blackberry down the side of us. blackberry we've tried to tidy that up a bit they grow absolutely loads of blackberries on them absolutely
8:14
beautiful, formless blackberries and then this is a plot obviously it's not a brilliant site at the
8:23
moment it's a bit of a mess we've got some onions growing we need to have a look at them and see how
8:29
well they're getting on they're not looking too good at some of them some is just starting to grow
8:33
so hopefully we get some onions these are autumn variety what you're planning
8:38
So hopefully these will be ready around June time. And then we've got us garlic
8:46
As garlic's doing really well. Look at that. Absolutely fantastic. The cold weather last week will have helped it
8:53
because the cold weather helps split the cloves and create the formation of the garlic
8:59
So yeah, hopefully we're going to get a lot of garlic this year. So no vampires will get me
9:05
But yeah, the plot is pretty much. all right at the moment, a lot of it's been weeded, it's all tidied, we've just got to fix all the beds up
9:15
hopefully get them all repainted this year, sort the paths out a bit, and then we'll be ready to start for growing this year
9:23
As beetroot's had it, I think. We might get some beetroot out of it, I don't know
9:29
So that has been a tour of my allotment. I hope we've enjoyed it, and obviously it's good to see what it's actually looking like so that other people can think, oh, mine's looking
9:38
as bad as yours. But yeah, I hope that you've enjoyed the video. Make sure you do give us a
