What vegetables can you plant in
0:02
November. Welcome to Gardening with Ben.
0:06
We're now in November and it's now time
0:08
to start planting our November
0:10
vegetables. These are probably ones that
0:13
if you've not planted them in October,
0:15
you've still got chance to plant them
0:18
this month and get them in the ground
0:20
before the cold, frosty, snowy weather
0:23
comes and stops you from doing any
0:26
planting. So, what vegetables can you
0:28
plant in November? The vegetables that
0:31
you can plant this month are garlic.
0:35
Now, I've got all my garlic in and it is
0:38
already sprouted. It sprouted after the
0:40
first couple of weeks of planting them.
0:41
They're doing extremely well. Make sure
0:44
you go for the UK varieties as they do a
0:47
lot better in the primates around here
0:49
than the ones from abroad. So, have a
0:52
look online and make sure that you get
0:54
the UK varieties. And if you go into the
0:56
supermarket, make sure again that they
0:58
say they're from the UK and not from
1:00
abroad when planting.
1:03
Next up are winter onions. Now, you can
1:06
grow onions throughout the winter and
1:07
they'll be ready around June, July time.
1:10
Obviously, you can plant ones in March,
1:12
April time as well, but these ones are
1:14
ones that you can fill your bed in and
1:16
get growing some winter onions and get
1:19
an earlier crop of onions. So yeah,
1:22
again you can get those online or from
1:24
most garden centers. They'll sell the
1:26
onion sets and you can get them in the
1:28
ground. Now make sure you net them as
1:31
the birds do love to pull them up and
1:33
squives like to pinch them. But yeah,
1:35
make sure you net them and protect them
1:37
when growing them. Next up are shallots.
1:40
Another onion type. And again, make sure
1:42
that they're the autumn winter variety
1:44
of shelots. Again, you can get these
1:47
online and get them in the ground and
1:49
you could be getting some shellots come
1:51
June July time. Next up are broad beans.
1:55
Now, if you're growing broad beans
1:57
throughout the autumn, winter period,
1:58
they need to be a winter variety so that
2:01
they can withstand the cold weather, the
2:03
snow, and the frost. So, make sure you
2:06
go for a variety like aquadullus. And
2:09
you can either plant them straight in
2:11
the ground or start them off in pots.
2:13
And when they're a bit bigger, you can
2:15
transplant them and plant them in the
2:17
ground. Again, there's not much food
2:19
around, so mice, rats will come and
2:22
pinch them. So, make sure they're
2:23
protected and until they get to a big
2:26
size, and then you can let them grow up
2:28
some canes or some netting. And yeah,
2:31
the reason why we plant them now is
2:34
because they'll be early and readyate
2:36
before the blackfly appear. So obviously
2:38
a lot of people start them around March
2:40
April time but then they get covered in
2:42
black fry around June July time. So you
2:46
this is an earlier crop which will be
2:48
ready before the blackfly appear.
2:51
Next up are winter salad leaves. Now you
2:54
can get certain varieties that you can
2:55
grow throughout the winter and they're
2:57
tolerant towards the cold weather. You
2:59
can either grow these in cold frames in
3:02
a poly tunnel or if it's not that cold
3:05
where you are try and grow them outside.
3:07
But obviously they'll do better in a
3:09
poly tunnel or a cold frame. So that's
3:11
the winter growing salad leaves.
3:15
Next up is if you want to grow something
3:17
indoors, have a look at growing micro
3:19
greens. Now this is quite new and a lot
3:22
of people are getting into growing micro
3:24
greens and there's plenty of varieties
3:26
that you can grow different flavor micro
3:28
greens. Have a look online, see what you
3:31
want to try and give them a grow. But
3:33
obviously, like I said, they need to be
3:35
grown indoors uh where it's nice and
3:37
warm and you will get a good crop from
3:40
there. So, make sure you share this
