Let's tidy up our garlic and our onion
0:02
beds. Welcome to Gardening with Ben,
0:04
everybody. And today we're going to be
0:06
busy sorting out our onion and our
0:07
garlic beds. And I brought bean beds as
0:09
well, should I say, as they've been in
0:12
since October. And they're growing
0:14
really well. I'm really impressed with
0:16
how well they're growing. And obviously
0:17
the cold frosty mornings are helping
0:19
with the garlic with the splitting. And
0:21
we want to get some great produce from
0:24
them next year when they're ready to
0:26
harvest in June, July time. So, we're
0:28
going to give him a weed over to break
0:29
up the soil and yeah, just uh maybe add
0:32
some food as well to them to give them
0:34
that boost while it's absolutely raining
0:36
all the time so that it soaks in and
0:38
gives them a feed. But yeah, let's have
0:39
a look and see what we're doing today.
0:42
So, this is our onions and our garlic
0:46
and they're all growing really well.
0:47
Look at the broad beans doing absolutely
0:49
amazing. And the onions as well are
0:52
coming along. The shelots are a bit
0:54
slow, but we've got more onions. We've
0:56
got more broad beans as red onions
0:59
aren't doing very well. I don't know
1:01
why, but yeah, we're getting bits and
1:03
bobs coming along. So hopefully we'll
1:06
get some produce. So we're going to dig
1:07
them all over, loosen the soil up, and
1:10
get rid of any weeds today. That is our
1:13
job down at the plot. So yeah, let's get
1:15
cracking. Let's get digging. And let's
1:18
get weeding. So we've given them all a
1:21
good weeding and they all look a lot
1:22
better now that we've dug over all the
1:24
soil. looking nice and healthy. They're
1:27
growing pretty good. So, next up is to
1:30
feed them. I put some onion and garlic
1:33
food on them and leak. And yeah,
1:35
hopefully it'll help encourage them and
1:37
give them the nutrition that they need.
1:39
And obviously, it's going to rain
1:40
tomorrow, so it should soak in pretty
1:42
good. So, yeah, we're going to give them
1:44
a little food to keep them going. And I
1:46
do this every month for a couple of
1:48
months just to keep them going and to
1:50
keep them fed. So yeah, we've given them
1:53
all a feed and put some food around to
1:56
help with the nutrition. So that's a job
2:00
well done. Keep them weeded, keep them
2:03
fed, and hopefully get some great
2:05
produce. We need to put a net up for
2:07
these soon. They're getting big, so I
2:09
need to support them. And the best thing
2:11
about growing broad beans at this time
2:14
of year is that they're ready to harvest
2:16
when before the blackfly here. Obviously
2:19
like you can grow varieties in March
2:21
time and they'll be ready around June
2:23
July time but then that's when they get
2:24
covered in blackfly but these will be
2:26
ready to harvest before the blackfly
2:28
appear. These are aquadullus uh winter
2:31
variety. So if you're wanting to grow
2:33
some broad beans that is the variety to
2:35
grow aquadullus through the winter. So
2:38
yeah it's all coming on really well.
