This video explains how to plan garden crops and decide what to grow for the upcoming season.
It covers choosing suitable plants, organising growing space, timing sowing and simple planning methods that help prevent problems later. You’ll also learn how preparation improves plant health and makes gardening easier to manage.
Good planning leads to stronger growth and more productive harvests.
These tips apply to vegetable gardens, flower beds, raised beds, containers and small gardens.

1:12
Journey hey everybody and welcome back
1:15
to gardening with Ben well it's Thursday
1:20
already and wow yes thankfully the week
1:23
is flying by and I'm so excited for the
1:26
weekend I'm ready for the big bird watch
1:29
which we'll talk about about in
1:30
tomorrow's episode but yeah I'm
1:32
definitely excited about it I can't stop
1:34
talking about
1:36
it hopefully we'll get lots of Feathered
1:38
Friends down there but yeah look forward
1:40
to tomorrow's episode where we'll be
1:41
talking all about the Big Bird Watch and
1:45
yeah so what have we been up to well we
1:50
have obviously been working this week so
1:52
we've not been down to the alotment but
1:54
we are trying stuff here at home and
2:00
I've started my Peppers off my onions
2:02
off and my Chili's off and so far the
2:06
peppers and the onions are growing the
2:09
peppers seem to have started really
2:12
growing this week as I'd not had no sign
2:15
of Life on them for a couple of weeks I
2:18
I must have planted them about 20 days
2:21
ago 25 days ago quite a while ago and
2:24
they were taking forever to germinate
2:26
and I was thinking well it's warm enough
2:28
in my flat this is the ideal temperature
2:31
obviously cuz it need to be about 25° to
2:34
germinate the peppers one of the reasons
2:37
why I've started them off at home early
2:39
to get them growing ready for this year
2:43
so I thought I'll try them at home this
2:45
year we'll start them nice and early and
2:46
get them growing and yeah no sign of
2:49
life I thought I would bought a dodgy
2:50
pack of pepper seeds but no they are
2:53
germinating and they're all popping
2:55
through now so hopefully in possibly
2:58
about a month's time we with my pot them
3:00
all up into individual pots keep them
3:03
growing at home until it's warm enough
3:05
to take them down to the allotment to
3:07
the shed to grow so hopefully we'll have
3:10
lots of peppers this year that's my plan
3:12
to try and grow lots of peppers and
3:15
obviously my onions I'm starting them
3:17
from seed this year and I'm growing some
3:20
from set so I'm going to show the
3:22
difference between seed onions and set
3:24
onions and show which ones do better and
3:27
I'm thinking it'll be the seed ones
3:29
again cuz done it from seed before and
3:31
the seed did do better than the sets so
3:33
we'll have to wait and see and see which
3:35
ones actually do well my chilies they've
3:39
not even started growing yet so I'm
3:41
hoping that they'll start germinating
3:44
soon or I'll have to start some more off
3:47
because chilies are easier to grow than
3:49
Peppers usually when I did them last
3:52
time the chilies grew absolutely loads
3:54
on the plant I think I've not grown them
3:55
for about 10 years now but they did
3:58
absolutely fantastic so hoping that they
4:00
do germinate and they get growing and
4:02
then we'll get lots of chilies as well
4:04
this
4:05
year now I might start some orene off as
4:08
well soon as now is the time to start
4:11
orene off as well obviously indoors
4:13
where it's warmer and get them growing
4:16
so I might try a few orene this weekend
4:18
and get them planted we have also spent
4:23
a little too much money
4:26
online guess what I've bought now well
4:30
I was talking about watermelons and
4:32
melons the other day and I thought I'm
4:34
going to go online and have a look see
4:36
what seeds they are so I like adding
4:38
them all to my basket all different
4:40
varieties and I thought s it I'm
4:42
purchasing them so I purchased about six
4:46
or seven different varieties of melons
4:48
and watermelons to try and grow so we're
4:51
going to try lots of different varieties
4:52
of melons this year so make sure you
4:55
stay tuned for that and obviously I'm
4:57
going to be growing them in my poly
4:58
tunnel where it's hopefully warmer and
5:01
in pots I'll be growing them in pots so
5:04
I'll have to keep them watered well and
5:06
keep them really watered so hopefully we
5:09
have some decent melons and yeah
5:12
obviously I'll be sharing the journey
5:14
with you all I'll be sharing all the
5:15
photos online and updating you on the
5:18
podcast how well they're actually
5:20
getting on so that is one more thing
5:23
ticked off on my list my next thing to
5:25
tick off on the list will be my
5:27
different varieties of sweet peas my
5:30
different varieties of geraniums my
5:33
different varieties of sunflowers and my
5:35
different varieties of squash as well so
5:39
hopefully I'll be able to purchase all
5:41
them and get them growing but yeah I'm
5:43
going absolutely mental with the seed
5:45
growing this
5:46
year I don't know where I'm going to
5:48
find all the time to look after these
5:51
but hopefully we'll find time and
5:52
hopefully we'll get them all growing and
5:54
hopefully we'll get some produce from
5:56
them that's the main thing uh it's all
5:58
right spending all this money growing
6:00
them it's whether they actually get
6:01
produce from
6:02
him but yeah hopefully we have a
6:05
fantastic crop and hopefully some great
6:07
results to show you all but I'm so
6:10
excited I'm so excited for March and I
6:13
was just uh live on my Tik Tok account
6:15
before I've recorded this and I was just
6:18
chatting to somebody online who follows
6:21
this podcast Ali a shout out to you and
6:24
we're chatting saying that um
6:28
everybody's excited to Growing Seeds and
6:31
people can get carried away and follow
6:34
the seed packets suggestion for growing
6:37
too much and start sewing all the seeds
6:40
pretty early and sometimes obviously
6:44
they don't germinate or if you going
6:45
them inside they'll get lagy and the
6:48
only seeds that I would start at this
6:50
time of year are chilies Peppers Orin
6:54
and onions and possibly leaks I wouldn't
6:57
start anything else off earlier not my
6:59
tomatoes not my cucumbers I'll start
7:02
them all off in like March time April
7:05
time they soon catch up and they'll grow
7:08
properly if they're in a greenhouse they
7:10
won't grow Ley they won't have issues
7:13
with germinating from the heat but yeah
7:16
we everybody gets excited when they're
7:19
grow for the first year and they'll
7:20
start really early uh they need to hold
7:23
off hold off from sewing them
7:25
seeds but yeah hopefully get planting
7:29
pretty later on and you'll see me when I
7:33
start sewing all my seeds uh it'll
7:35
possibly be like end of March Time
7:37
beginning of April time I'll be going
7:39
absolutely mental we sewing loads of
7:41
seeds and we are going to label them all
7:43
this year we're going to label up what
7:45
I'm planting in what seed
7:48
treay so then there's no guessing at the
7:50
end my mom bought me some seed labels uh
7:54
this year for Christmas some wooden ones
7:56
so we're going to make use of them and
7:58
we're going to uh down all our plants on
8:01
seed labels so that we know what we're
8:03
growing but I'm so excited for this year
8:06
I'm really determined and obviously now
8:09
that I'm doing more content with videos
8:12
and with podcasts and everything like
8:13
that I'm sharing what I'm getting up to
8:15
so hopefully you'll all enjoy it and
8:18
hopefully all enjoy the journey this
8:20
year down on the allotment and sharing
8:22
what I get up to and as I always say I'm
8:25
an honest Gardener I'll show you what
8:27
successful and I'll show you what fails
8:30
as well there's no point being a
8:32
gardener if you don't show what failures
8:34
you have nothing ever always works and
8:38
that's what obviously people show they
8:40
show all the good stuff but it's good to
8:42
show the bad stuff as well so that they
8:44
know it's not all easy to do which is
8:47
not it's a hard job to do and I hope
8:51
that you do enjoy these podcast and I
8:54
hope that you do enjoy my allotment
8:56
Journey so we will be back tomorrow with
8:58
tomorrow's podcast
9:00
talking about the big bird watch and
9:02
then on Saturday we will be down there
9:06
getting all the footage and hopefully
9:07
some birds there's a strong storm coming
9:10
on Friday night everybody so if you've
9:13

9:18
