1:19
that have subscribed to the channel so
1:21
far it's great to welcome you to this
1:24
great
1:25
community so yeah what have we been up
1:29
to on the lopment I need to think now
1:31
because uh I did have a few drinks last
1:34
night so my brain's not fully
1:35
functioning
1:37
today but yeah yesterday was an
1:41
absolutely glorious day and I shared on
1:45
my Instagram that it got to like 20° in
1:48
my poly tunnel which is fantastic for Fe
1:52
February uh it just goes to show that
1:54
hopefully the weather is starting to go
1:57
in the right direction and we certainly
2:00
have not had a bad winter at all this
2:02
year uh yes we've had a lot of wind but
2:06
we've not had a lot of cold we've not
2:09
had bad snow we've not had much rain and
2:12
yeah you can't really complain at the
2:14
winter that we've had this year and
2:17
hopefully it will start to get warmer
2:19
and you never know we may get one of
2:21
those early heat waves what we've had
2:23
past couple of years when we usually get
2:26
a heat wave like in March or in April
2:28
time and that will be a great time to
2:31
get all the seeds growing and started um
2:34
down at the alotment in the garden so
2:37
what have we been up to recently so I've
2:40
been checking up on my seeds what I'm
2:43
growing at the moment my onion seeds
2:46
they're growing really well now in the
2:48
shed and we hopefully will be getting
2:51
those ready to plant possibly end of
2:54
March outside in the ground we'll have
2:57
to see how the weather is whether uh
3:00
with it's not too snowy but we'll have
3:02
to look at getting those planted soon
3:04
I've planted four different varieties of
3:06
onion seeds uh there's absolutely loads
3:09
that have grown from each packet uh so I
3:12
possibly won't be using them all but
3:13
we'll see how we get on and which ones
3:16
we do grow so we'll be starting them off
3:20
then we have got some herbs which have
3:23
started uh sprouted uh I think they're
3:26
my parsley and coriander which have
3:29
started growing had a look at my rocket
3:30
today my Rockets just started to get
3:33
some Little Sprouts coming popping
3:34
through which it's always great to see
3:37
new seedlings popping through the ground
3:40
I I certainly do get Amazed by it so I'm
3:43
really pleased that they're coming along
3:44
really well then my other stuff what's
3:47
coming along well what I've planted
3:49
recently are my blueberries they're
3:52
looking pretty healthy I planted them
3:54
about a month ago now and they they've
3:58
been planted in ericaceous soil and
4:00
they've been sunk into the
4:02
ground so that the wind doesn't blow
4:04
them over and they're growing pretty
4:06
well and healthy so I'm definitely
4:09
looking forward to getting some
4:10
blueberries this year I've got two other
4:12
blueberry plants which are a bit older
4:14
than these uh more established and
4:17
hopefully we'll get a nice good crop of
4:19
blue brid this year hopefully fingers
4:22
crossed and I checked on my forless
4:25
black BRD they're growing well they're
4:28
starting to uh get some shoots on them
4:31
and then I've planted a load of Summer
4:33
raspberry canes down the side of my plot
4:36
and they're taking really well I checked
4:39
them today and they've all got Sprouts
4:42
popping through on them which shows that
4:44
they're taking and that they are
4:45
actually still alive and growing and
4:47
that is the reason why you need to be
4:49
planting fruit at this time of year
4:50
because the ground is wet and they will
4:53
take really well and better in the
4:55
ground and you can have some fantastic
4:58
results from them so they're coming
5:00
along pretty well and then I've been
5:02
looking around at my bulbs and my bulbs
5:05
are coming up
5:07
fantastic uh I thought I'd planted a lot
5:10
more than what's actually popping
5:11
through but we will see how they go some
5:14
may not have started yet hopefully
5:16
they'll start popping through soon and
5:18
we'll get some nice displays I've just
5:21
got to make a note of where areas where
5:24
they've not grown so well either because
5:26
squirrels have pinched them or have dug
5:28
up the bulbs and not realized and they
5:31
may have got damaged so we need to look
5:33
at where we need to plant them at the
5:35
end of this year um that's one thing
5:38
that you always need to do when you
5:39
bulbs qu have a look at areas what's not
5:41
grown well and make market so that you
5:44
know where to plant them next year uh
5:47
and try and fill in those gaps because I
5:49
was talking to somebody last night and
5:51
they were from the wildlife trust uh in
5:54
Sheffield and I said to him that I
5:56
didn't use gr flowers on my allotment at
5:58
all and and now that I've started
6:01
reading up on things more and knowing
6:04
that you can
6:06
get uh help the bees more and she were
6:09
really happy that I've been spreading
6:11
that awareness of planting spring bulbs
6:14
and to encourage the bees because the
6:17
spring bulbs are the first thing the
6:19
bees see when they wake up from hiber
6:21
Nation somebody messaged it other day to
6:23
say that they' seen the first be of the
6:25
Year and that it was very doy and stuff
6:28
like that and they gave it some sugar to
6:30
help it on its way and it's just doing
6:33
that little bit to help the bees uh it
6:36
doesn't cost a lot you can get a pack of
6:38
daffodil bulbs for a couple of quid and
6:43
plant some on the allotment as long as
6:45
we're encouraging them to come to the
6:47
alotment
6:48
and I'm trying to plant as many spring
6:51
bulbs as I can round where my fruit
6:55
grows because obviously when they're out
6:58
in flower and po um buding uh
7:03
blossoming that is when the spring bulbs
7:06
will be out and that will encourage the
7:08
bees to come to the fruit to help
7:10
pollinate it and hopefully get some
7:12
fantastic results back to the alment and
7:16
getting those great produce which which
7:18
you're growing so it swings roundabouts
7:21
you help the bees and the bees will help
7:23
you so do more for the bees and get them
7:28
onto your allotment because if other
7:30
people aren't growing flowers on their
7:31
plot and you're growing flowers you're
7:33
going to attract all the bees to your
7:35
plot and you will get them doing all the
7:38
work for you and without the bees we
7:41
won't get some fantastic produce and
7:43
crops so keep on encouraging the bees to
7:46
come to your plot this year and try and
7:49
do what you can for them so if you've
7:52
not planted any spring bulbs this year
7:55
go out and get some at the end of the
7:57
year and get planting them with me EX
7:59
I'll be planting a load more there's
8:01
still some areas that I still need to
8:03
get some bulbs in and get them filled up
8:06
the
8:06
beds and also I've been getting loads of
8:09
Summer bulbs but we'll talk about them
8:12
in another episode I've just been out
8:14
and bought some today so you'll find out
8:17
what they are soon so it's all coming
8:21
together pretty well on my allotment and
8:24
I've done I've completed my mission for
8:26
this month I was saying that I wanted to
8:29
get all my beds dug over for February
8:32
and I can confirm that that is now done
8:35
all the beds are dug over the next job
8:38
is to sort out all the paths on the plot
8:41
and to repaint all the beds but I'm not
8:44
going to repaint them I don't think
8:46
until the end of April just before I
8:49
start planting stuff out I want them to
8:51
look the best uh throughout all summer
8:54
so we'll be PL uh painting those up come
8:57
end of April that'll be April jobs to do
9:01
but I'm so far ahead this year it's
9:04
unbelievable how far I am actually ahead
9:07
so once I've sorted the paths out that
9:09
will be a couple of days work uh because
9:13
some are really weedy and I need to put
9:15
some new black membrane down and fasten
9:17
it all down and make it look good again
9:21
once we've done that then it will be
9:24
going on to repairing any beds that are
9:27
broken or damaged build a few more beds
9:30
because I've cleared an area at the top
9:32
where I've not got beds uh laid so we're
9:35
going to have three new beds on the
9:37
allotment this year an extra three beds
9:39
to plant in so I'm looking forward to
9:41
that and there quite a bit of delight on
9:45
this area so hopefully we'll get some
9:48
great crops and I'm thinking of planting
9:51
sweet corn up in these beds at the top
9:54
of my plot because it is quite moist as
9:57
well um so hopefully they'll get nice
10:01
and big and grow really well so I'm
10:04
hoping to get some fantastic sweet corn
10:07
this year I've been out and bought some
10:09
sweet corn again I'll talk about this in
10:11
another episode of what I've purchased
10:14
uh so you'll have to subscribe uh to
10:17
this podcast to get notified when that
10:19
episode comes up uh I keep encouraging
10:21
you to subscribe I'm sorry but it does
10:24
really help and obviously the more
10:27
people that listen to this podcast it
10:28
all go goes back into buying bits for my
10:31
allotment so it's stuff that I can talk
10:33
about to you so keep on listening to
10:35
these podcast because it does really
10:37
help with getting stuff so what else
10:41
have we been doing down at the alotment
10:43
so we've also purchased some more plants
10:47
for the plot and I've shared on
10:50
Instagram of what I purchased I
10:53
purchased four hydr engers yes four um
10:59
I've always wanted a hyr enger on my
11:01
allotment uh whether it's because we
11:04
used to have one in our garden well we
11:05
had three in our garden and they looked
11:08
absolutely fantastic and always full of
11:11
color in the summer so I wanted some
11:15
nice hydr engers on my plot and I've
11:17
planted those right at the front of my
11:19
plot uh which is like next to the
11:22
roadside so hopefully it
11:24
will windshield some of my shed because
11:28
I planted a couple of in front of my
11:29
shed uh so hopefully it'll windshield it
11:32
a bit obviously it'll block a bit of of
11:34
the light but I get all the light in
11:36
from the roof as well because it's
11:38
seethrough on the roof so hopefully it
11:41
will stop it from getting damaged as
11:43
much once they start going and they
11:45
should grow pretty fast uh I believe
11:47
they're quite fast to grow henders uh as
11:50
long as you give them plenty of water
11:52
they'll grow really
11:54
well and hopefully they'll take pretty
11:58
good and we've also purchased a catus
12:02
now clamus look absolutely stunning when
12:05
they're out and Yeah again the bees will
12:08
love them uh because they've got all the
12:11
little flowery bits on them you could
12:15
tell I'm a very technical person uh
12:17
they've got the flower hits on them
12:19
where they can land um on and they look
12:23
absolutely fantastic and I've planted
12:25
that to grow it up in front of my shed
12:28
so that it grows uh covers my shed
12:31
really I'm going to put chicken wire in
12:33
front of all the plastic so that I can
12:36
fasten it to the uh chicken wire and
12:38
grow it in front of my shed and yeah
12:42
it's a bit of a like to disguise it
12:44
really uh just to like block it off and
12:47
make it look a bit more
12:49
colorful rather than the horrible
12:51
plastic look so I'm looking forward to
12:53
Growing that chatus now I think I just
12:55
need to pick up one more because it this
12:59
one that I purchased it said it doesn't
13:01
grow very far now I thought glamas
13:04
always spread quite far but this one
13:07
don't seem to spread that far clamus
13:10
Arabella so if you're growing one of
13:12
them let me know because I would love to
13:14
know if yours are spreaded far and yeah
13:17
I might have to pick another one of
13:19
those up uh if I want to get it
13:21
covered then I purchas a
13:24
honeysuckle and it's a red one uh a
13:27
pinky red one and it looks absolutely
13:30
fantastic and if you know honeysuckle it
13:33
smells Divine as well and I I've planted
13:37
that near the entrance of my plot so
13:39
that I can smell it as I walk on uh I
13:42
just want as much color on my plot this
13:44
year as possible and to make it as
13:47
bright and beautiful to look at and to
13:49
get nice pictures as well it's all about
13:51
getting those pictures for the
13:54
gram but yeah I'm definitely looking
13:57
forward to having some honeysuckle on my
13:58
plot
14:00
so we've got to look after that and
14:02
again I'm going to be training that
14:03
against wires and chicken wire to make
14:06
sure that it grows well and that it
14:09
covers the area that I want it to grow
14:12
in then we've bought a Jasmine and this
14:15
is
14:17
be B am
14:20
banum if that's how you say I'm not very
14:22
good at saying these words I really do
14:24
think I'm dpic uh I do struggle with
14:27
saying words so forgive me um but yeah
14:32
I'd never be able to do a gardening
14:33
program cuz I wouldn't ever be able to
14:34
say the
14:36
words I'd have to get an interpreter to
14:38
do it uh but yeah we have got that and
14:42
it's a pink one again I've seen the
14:44
yellow Jasmin and they look absolutely
14:46
fantastic but I've never seen a pink
14:49
Jasmine and this does grow a lot uh I
14:53
think it says something like 7 m it can
14:57
grow in width so I've put this as a
15:00
hedging for down the side of my plot
15:03
with my neighbor and hopefully it will
15:06
add some real attraction to the entrance
15:08
of the plot and some real color so I'm
15:11
looking forward to Growing that as well
15:14
and training it cuz obviously I need to
15:16
train it to grow where I want it to grow
15:19
and to get the best out of
15:21
it so I'm really ex I am getting really
15:24
excited about growing flowers and adding
15:27
this color to my plot obviously I've got
15:29
all my seed PL uh on my plot all my
15:32
flower seeds but to have plants that
15:35
come back every single year that's key
15:37
as well to getting good results and
15:40
making it look attractive and then I
15:43
bought a couple more climbing roses uh
15:45
pink ones and they looked really healthy
15:48
I looked inside the boxes and they've
15:50
got plenty of flowers uh leaves coming
15:53
on them so it shows that they're healthy
15:55
and that they will hopefully do pretty
15:59
good so yeah we have got extremely lots
16:02
and lots of things to do coming up on
16:05
the plot and like I said I always set
16:09
myself little tasks and missions like I
16:12
said I set myself the mission of this
16:15
month clearing the whole of my plot and
16:17
getting all the beds dug over and I've
16:19
completed that I've managed to do it so
16:22
I'm pleased about that so this month's
16:25
Mission well March will be to sort out
16:29
all the paths and to do any new beds and
16:34
edging and get all that done this month
16:37
so it's going to be quite a crafty month
16:40
this month uh with my fantastic rubbish
16:44
woodwork skills uh we'll have to see how
16:47
we get on so we'll have to see if we get
16:52
some great results from them and see how
16:55
we get on so yeah I'm looking forward to
16:58
this year this year is going to probably
17:00
be the best year on my allotment by far
17:03
uh for the results and what's going to
17:06
be growing this year down at the plot
17:09
because I just want it to make it look
17:11
like a masterpiece and a sh piece just
17:13
to show it all off and make it
17:16
absolutely stunning for you to see and I
17:19
can't wait to show well I can't wait to
17:21
see it to be honest uh all this hard
17:24
work and effort that I'm putting in and
17:26
money as well uh into the plot but I'm
17:29
hoping that the results that I get come
17:31
back and show me how well it's come on
17:36
and the results that we've got so we'll
17:38
have to see if we do get the results
17:40
we're after down at the
17:43
allotment so yeah like I said it's all
17:46
come from you listening to these
17:49
podcasts uh like I said I only get about
17:52
2 pound a day from them but it all goes
17:55
back into buying plants and seeds and
17:57
compost to produce these episodes
18:00
because if I have not bought all them
18:02
plants this weekend I wouldn't have had
18:04
anything to talk about so it's all gone
18:07
towards that and you can see from my
18:09
photos and my Instagram post and my
18:11
Facebook lives how well it's all coming
18:15
along really
18:16
well so yeah make sure you do click that
18:19
subscribe button because we have got uh
18:22
over the next few episodes talking about
18:24
all the seeds what have come with the
18:26
magazines this month then we've got the
18:29
episodes talking about what you need to
18:31
do in March and also what seeds to be
18:35
planted in March so yeah thank you for
18:37
being great supporters and it's always
18:40
great to hear from you I do get so many
18:42
messages from people every single day uh
18:45
