Let's sew our red brussel sprouts.
0:03
Welcome to Gardening with Ben. And yes,
0:05
we're going to be sewing Simply Seeds
0:07
red Brussels sprouts. Now, you probably
0:10
heard I'll never grow Brussels sprouts
0:11
cuz I don't like them. I really don't.
0:14
And yeah, why would I grow them if I
0:16
didn't like them? But I saw that there's
0:18
red ones and I thought maybe they taste
0:20
nice. Who knows? Obviously, you can't
0:22
buy red ones usually in the shops. So, I
0:25
thought I'll give them a go. give them a
0:26
grow and see if I actually like them and
0:29
see if they taste all right. But yeah,
0:31
why not? E, I do love growing different
0:34
varieties. Now, these are called Brussel
0:36
Ruby Crunch and you saw them between
0:39
March to May. And then obviously you
0:41
harvest them around Christmas time and
0:44
into January. And fingers crossed we get
0:47
some decent Brussels sprouts. And
0:49
fingers crossed I like them. If not, my
0:52
family is going to have lots of Brussels
0:54
sprouts to eat. But we're going to give
0:56
them a try. Give them a shot and see if
0:58
we can get them to grow. So, let's get
1:01
these sewn and let's get these growing.
1:04
So, for this, I'm just using a normal
1:06
size plant pot. And yeah, we're going to
1:08
use some fine compost and we're just
1:10
going to sew them in the top. When they
1:11
get germinated and get big enough, we'll
1:14
separate them all out into individual
1:15
pots. But for now, we're going to grow
1:18
them in there and get them growing. So,
1:20
let's get these seeds sewn.
1:24
So, these aren't massive seeds as you
1:26
can see, but we've got about 20 of them.
1:28
So, if you can try and thin them out
1:31
when you're sewing them, it'll make life
1:32
easier once they get growing to separate
1:35
them all. So, yeah, let's get these in
1:36
the pot and get these growing.
1:40
So, we've put those into the pot, and
1:42
it's hard to see where they are, but you
1:43
can pretty much make out of it. But,
1:45
yeah, we've tried to space them out as
1:47
much as possible. So, we just need to
1:49
cover them over with compost, which is
1:51
nice and easy. We don't need a massive
1:53
thick layer of compost. But yeah, that's
1:56
perfect. So, we'll give them a water and
1:58
then we're going to put them in our
1:59
secret magic trick. So, there we are.
2:02
We've watered them and we've covered
2:04
them with cling film. We cover all our
2:05
seeds with cling film. Keeps them moist,
2:07
keeps them warm and speeds up
2:09
germination a lot more, especially if
2:10
you've got an unheated greenhouse like
2:12
myself. So, just make sure you label
2:14
them up so that you remember what they
2:15
are because all brassica plants look the
2:17
same and you'll end up thinking, "What
2:19
have I sewn?" So, yep, we'll put these
2:21
in a nice light spot and hopefully get
2:25
So, make sure you drop us a follow to
2:26
stay up to date with how well these
2:28
Brussels sprouts grow and if they're
2:29
delicious and if they look nice and red
2:32
as well. So, until next time everyone,
2:34
remember, keep smiling, keep shining,
2:36
and keep gardening with Ben, everyone.
