Let's prepare our bed for our next
0:03
autuminal bull planting. Welcome to
0:05
Gardening with Ben. And today we're
0:07
going to be tidying up one of my other
0:09
big beds for my bull planting as this
0:13
was one of my key beds. I planted a lot
0:15
of shrubbery in this area this year and
0:17
we've got some ders in it. We've got
0:20
quite a few flowers in it. So, we're
0:22
going to give it a tidy up. I'm going to
0:23
take my ders out as it's coming to the
0:25
end now of them as it's going to start
0:28
turning colder now. So, they'll probably
0:29
die back. They've still got a few buds
0:31
on, but yeah, let's have a look.
0:35
So, this is the flower bed, and as you
0:37
can see, it's getting a bit overwhelming
0:39
of flowers. We cut back as fuchsia
0:42
earlier in the year, and it's it's
0:44
growing mad again. We need to get all
0:45
the bind weed out as well. But yeah, as
0:48
Gor is doing well, that's looking really
0:50
nice. I'm going to keep that in. But my
0:53
ders, they're starting to finish off
0:56
now. So, we're going to take those out
0:58
and hopefully save the tubers from them.
1:00
But yeah, we've got some new plants to
1:02
plant in. We've got some saraka white
1:04
gem. We've got some other plants as
1:07
well, which we're looking forward to
1:09
getting in and hopefully getting some
1:11
flowers. They need watering. They're a
1:14
Who else does that? Just puts plants to
1:16
one side and they end up dying before
1:17
you put them in. But yeah, let's get
1:19
them all planted and let's get them all
1:21
in and hopefully get some bulbs in this
1:26
Oh no, what have I done? I've taken out
1:30
all of the plants. I changed my mind. I
1:33
thought I'll take them all out because
1:35
I'm going to start again. I'm going to
1:37
put them all where they should actually
1:38
be in high order. The tall ones towards
1:41
the back and the lower ones towards the
1:43
front because they were just all in igly
1:45
piggledy. But yeah, we're going to sort
1:47
them all out and replant them all.
1:49
Hopefully they take again, but if not,
1:51
we'll have to fill them back in again.
1:53
But yeah, let's get them all replanted
1:57
So, I've lined up all the plants and
1:59
planted them where I want them to be.
2:01
So, we need to get all those new plants
2:03
in now. And yeah, hopefully that
2:06
wisteria takes what I planted this year
2:08
and starts climbing next year. But yeah,
2:11
we've got so much planted and like I
2:13
said, I'll put the taller stuff towards
2:14
the back now and the smaller stuff
2:17
towards the front. This lavender has
2:19
done really well. Absolutely amazing. A
2:22
lot of this were cutings I took from
2:24
another lavender and it seems to have
2:26
taken pretty well. So hopefully it gets
2:31
So as new plants we've got to plant our
2:33
saraka white gem which has a nice
2:36
fragrance in the winter time. We've got
2:39
some cornice fire which hopefully will
2:43
come back to life once I plant them.
2:45
Fingers crossed they're not fully dead.
2:47
And then we've got some nardinia fire
2:50
power. So yeah, we have got some great
2:53
plants. Get those planted and get those
2:59
So it's all now completed. It looks
3:02
absolutely amazing. All the plants are
3:04
all in place. They're all in situ with
3:07
all the lavender down the front to
3:08
create a little lavender hedge row once
3:10
they get established. But yeah, our next
3:13
job next week will be to fill it all
3:15
with absolutely loads of bulbs so that
3:18
it looks amazing in springtime because I
3:20
do love my bulbs as you know. So yeah,
3:23
I'm happy with how we've got on. We've
3:24
done a big job today. A good job. Nice
3:27
in the weather and nice in the sunshine.
3:29
So we've just got to give it a massive
3:30
water to hopefully get everything settle
3:33
back in and hopefully take root again.
3:35
Fingers crossed we don't lose any plants
3:38
in the meantime. Even the robins coming
3:40
to have a look at it and see what we've
3:42
been up to. But yeah, we have got lots
3:46
done today. So happy with how it's all
3:48
come on. So in this area, we've got a
3:52
new eucalyptus to plant which we got
3:54
sent which looks absolutely gorgeous and
3:57
it's called the compact silver. Even
4:00
though it's called compact, it can still
4:02
grow to 5 m tall unless
4:06
you keep it under control. So, I do need
4:09
to keep it under control cuz we don't
4:10
want it 5 m tall. But yeah, it'll have a
4:14
nice eucalyptus smell when you're
4:15
trimming it. It's also good for flower
4:18
arranging as well if you do flower
4:20
arranging. So, we're going to plant it
4:22
in this area next to the wisteria and
4:24
hopefully it'll grow well, not too tall.
4:28
And obviously, they like a sunny
4:30
position and they like to be kept
4:32
watered as well. So, hopefully it gets
4:35
enough water. But yeah, let's get
4:37
planted and see how it grows.
4:41
So, that is another area sorted. And
4:44
that's all I'm doing during the autumn
4:46
winter time is improving areas, tidying
4:49
them all up, getting them all ready out
4:51
for next year and just giving it all a
4:53
spruce up because you don't get much
4:55
time, especially during the summer when
4:57
you're planting and you're watering and
4:59
you're harvesting. You don't get time to
5:01
do all the jobs what you want to get
5:03
done. So that is why I concentrate on
5:05
all these during the autumn time. So
5:07
make sure you stay tuned for all our
5:09
videos of our projects throughout the
5:10
winter period. Until next time everyone,
5:12
remember, keep smiling, keep shining,
5:14
and keep gardening with Ben everyone.
