and let's enjoy today's episode hello
0:25
everyone and welcome back to gardening
0:28
with Ben well it's Thursday it's
0:32
absolutely freezing but we're back here
0:34
for another podcast today and my whoa
0:39
has it been cold this
0:42
morning I've been uh I saw the weather
0:45
forecast yesterday um on my phone that
0:49
it' say it it start snowing around
0:51
midday so I thought I need to get to the
0:54
allotment nice and early so that I can
0:56
get my timeing down there and get
0:58
cracking with the work that needs
1:00
doing and it is a good job I did not
1:04
because it was absolutely
1:07
freezing but we managed to get lots and
1:11
lots of work done down at the allotment
1:14
today and I'm quite impressed with how
1:16
much we actually did get done down on
1:18
the allotments to say how cold it was
1:21
and I couldn't feel my toes by the end
1:24
of the time down at the plot I
1:27
accomplished quite a lot to be honest
1:29
because I'm getting to completion of all
1:33
my beds and that is what I'm planning
1:36
for by the end of February and hopefully
1:40
tomorrow I will have got all my beds dug
1:43
over so we'll have to see what the
1:45
weather's like tomorrow but if it's
1:48
absolutely chuing it down if it's
1:50
snowing I won't be on the plot I will be
1:54
in my shed and Greenhouse doing stuff in
1:56
there but yeah I quite impressed with
1:59
how much we've managed to get done
2:01
because it did start snowing in
2:03
Sheffield around 11:00 and the sky
2:07
looked full if that's an expression
2:09
you've heard before um when it looks
2:12
like it is going to absolutely Chu it
2:14
down with snow and it it didn't and it
2:18
did but um I had had enough at the
2:22
allotment I'd spent 3 hours down there I
2:24
got down there for about 8:00 this
2:26
morning and I went live on my Facebook
2:30
so if you want to watch that feel free
2:32
to check out my Facebook page gardening
2:34
with Ben and you can see my live where I
2:37
do a tour of my plot and show you how
2:40
well things are getting on and how badly
2:42
things are getting
2:44
on but yeah I got quite a lot done and I
2:50
was quite impressed that I got as much
2:53
done as I had did because like I said it
2:57
was absolutely freezing I could not feel
2:58
my feet but by the time I'd finished
3:00
doing my Liv so when I first got on my
3:02
plot my fingers had gone numb and I just
3:05
didn't want to be there at all today and
3:07
sometimes you get them feelings when
3:08
you're down at the alotment you feel
3:10
like you don't want to do anything but
3:13
you've just got to push yourself and
3:14
motivate yourself to get in there and
3:16
get doing some stuff so we've got that
3:20
done so over the next few days hopefully
3:26
I'm going to get that area finished at
3:28
the top which is an absolute tip um of
3:31
an area uh I've not really grown in it
3:34
before and I'm looking to grow in it
3:36
next year cuz it does get the sun on
3:37
that area and I'm hoping to have my
3:40
sweet corn in that area this year so
3:42
we'll have to see about doing that but
3:46
then I need to go and get these hydras
3:48
tomorrow I've looked at where I'm going
3:50
to put them on my plot and I'm going to
3:53
get four by the thinking of it uh for
3:56
this area I'm looking at putting them at
3:58
the front of my plot
4:00
on my entrance to give my shed a bit of
4:04
uh Shield protection really from the
4:05
wind when it does get windy and yeah
4:09
they'll look nice at the front of my
4:10
plot add a bit of color and Bush out and
4:13
look good really uh and hopefully make
4:17
it attractive and yeah I've always
4:19
wanted hydranges on my plot I don't know
4:22
why I don't know what I like about them
4:24
but we used to have them in my old house
4:26
and it was something that always looked
4:30
beautiful and they always grew every
4:33
single year as long as you looked after
4:35
them you got beautiful flowers on them
4:38
and they're easy to grow as well so
4:40
nothing beats easy to grow and like I
4:42
said I want to keep getting stuff on it
4:45
what will come back every single year so
4:47
that's my plan so we'll have to see how
4:51
well we get on with doing that and if we
4:54
manage to get them in the morning that's
4:55
the plan to go across to the supermarket
4:58
and get them in the morning so I may be
5:00
planting them tomorrow so you'll have to
5:02
stay tuned on my Instagram to see if if
5:04
fact you can see a picture of them and
5:07
what they look like cuz they're only
5:09
like £4 each only small ones but they do
5:12
grow fast and they do look healthy which
5:16
is a bonus so yeah I'm looking forward
5:19
to getting those and just remember if
5:21
you do buy red or blue ones they do
5:24
change color depending on the soil
5:26
quality if it's acid they'll turn Med if
5:29
it's alkaline they'll turn blue so yeah
5:32
hopefully we'll get some of those in and
5:34
I need to look at getting some other
5:36
stuff really from a plot um I I am
5:40
spending quite a lot of money on flowers
5:42
and stuff this year um that is the plan
5:45
to add a lot more color to the plot and
5:49
get
5:50
some better displays really uh make it
5:53
look more attractive and it all seems to
5:56
be going to plan so far I were looking
5:58
at my he this morning at the front of my
6:00
plot and wow it does look absolutely
6:03
beautiful and these were what I bought
6:05
really really cheap at being queue uh
6:08
they sell stuff off every so often and I
6:10
was just lucky enough to go in and I
6:13
think bought this hether for 50 p a pot
6:17
and I bought about four and they look
6:19
absolutely beautiful so yeah I'm pleased
6:22
with them purchases sometimes you can
6:23
land on really good
6:26
Bargains um in the supermarkets so I
6:30
keep popping in every single day just to
6:32
look for bargains and see what I can
6:35
come out with so it's always worth off
6:38
if you drive past to B andq every day
6:41
just pop in every single day and see if
6:43
they've got anything in the reduced
6:44
items because sometimes they're decent
6:48
plants but the reason why they're
6:49
getting rid of them is because they're
6:51
getting the same variety coming in on
6:53
the next delivery and they've not got
6:55
room for them so they get rid of the Old
6:57
Stock to get the new stock in so yeah
7:00
always keep your eyes peeled in the
7:02
reduce section in being C because I live
7:04
in it and if you seen all my house
7:06
plants that I purchased over the past
7:08
few months from being cute you will know
7:10
why I absolutely love it but that's the
7:13
plan anyway we're getting there slowly
7:16
with my plot
7:18
and all my spring bulbs are going to
7:20
come out this year they're going to look
7:22
beautiful and fantastic but I do want to
7:25
get some perennials down the sides of my
7:29
borders
7:30
that's the aim for this year I've got my
7:33
gladiol icons put in I'm going to get
7:36
some more of those I want to get some
7:38
more in of those because they they do
7:40
come up fantastic every single year so I
7:43
want to get some more gladiola icons so
7:45
they may be on my list tomorrow as well
7:48
so it's going to be a pretty old busy
7:50
day down at the plot tomorrow hopefully
7:53
we manage to get all this done and
7:55
hopefully the weather is decent because
7:58
I do want to get get all this cracking
8:01
along and getting it moving and I just
8:05
can't wait for the color what's going to
8:07
be looking in my plot this year like I
8:09
said I am working so hard for the bees
8:12
this year to get that food for them to
8:15
help them come to my plot and help use
8:20
their magic really and pollinate all my
8:24
fuit because the more bees that come to
8:25
your plot the more they will pollinate
8:28
your fruit and you will get good crops
8:30
from them and that's what I keep saying
8:32
anyway and last year I got a bumper crop
8:36
of fruit and I had a lot of flowers but
8:39
I didn't have millions but this year
8:41
it's going to be absolutely jam-packed
8:43
with flowers my plot and the bees are
8:46
going to be in heaven come into my plot
8:49
um they'll be ignoring all the other
8:51
plots and they'll be thinking we must go
8:53
to Garden him with Ben's plot and enjoy
8:55
all that nectar down his plot what he
8:58
has planted especially for
9:01
us so yeah there is going to be a lot of
9:04
work done tomorrow I don't know if I'm
9:07
going to be at the plot on Saturday yet
9:08
because it is payday tomorrow and I will
9:11
be going out for a few beverages
9:13
thankfully I'd never show any live
9:16
footage when I'm out
9:18
drinking that's only for the additional
9:20
fans only joking but yeah um hopefully
9:25
tomorrow night it's going to be a nice
9:27
night because I deserve a good night out
9:30
every so often sometimes I don't go out
9:32
much uh and yeah like I said I've been
9:35
struggling over these past couple of
9:36
years and it's good to get out and enjoy
9:38
myself every often and as well as being
9:41
at the alotment I do enjoy going out and
9:44
enjoying myself every soften and yeah so
9:47
if you've not checked out my other
