Can you grow in the Oakland Gardens root
0:03
trainers? Welcome to Gardening with Ben
0:05
and today we're going to talk about what
0:07
you can grow in the root trainers. We've
0:09
had a lot of questions on one of my
0:10
posts of what you can actually grow in
0:13
them. And these are absolutely perfect
0:17
because they're strong. They're not the
0:18
flimsy plastic and they detach so that
0:22
you can just take the plants straight
0:23
out without having to disturb the roots.
0:26
Now, the perfect plants to grow in these
0:29
are all your beans. So, like your runner
0:32
beans, your French beans, your broad
0:34
beans, even peas. They're all brilliant
0:37
because they have such long roots on
0:39
them. Next up is sweet corn. Another
0:43
great vegetable to grow. Now, I might
0:46
grow my sweet corn in these after I've
0:48
grown my sweet peas because I'm growing
0:49
sweet peas in mine for the time being.
0:52
Also the best plants to vegetables to
0:55
grow in them are your cucumbers, your
0:58
corettes, your pumpkins, your squash,
1:01
and your melons because the thing is
1:04
with them is that they do not like to be
1:07
disturbed or transplanted and they can
1:10
get very flimsy around the seed when
1:13
you're transplanting them. So, these are
1:16
perfect because obviously, like I said,
1:18
once they get to a good size, then you
1:20
can detach the trays and separate them
1:23
and just take the plant out nice and
1:25
easy without having to disturb the
1:27
roots. And you can get them to a good
1:29
size in here before you transplant them
1:32
onto another pot to get them to a decent
1:35
size. Now, as I mentioned, I'm growing
1:37
sweet peas in mine because sweet peas
1:40
are my absolute favorite and it's time
1:42
for sewing those at the moment. So, the
1:45
other flowers that you can grow in these
1:50
which again, I'm going to be growing
1:51
millions of sunflowers this year. I've
1:53
got so many different varieties to grow
1:55
down here from yellow, orange, red,
1:58
black, all different varieties of
2:00
sunflowers because they attract the bees
2:02
and they're great for pollination and
2:04
great to just view them. So, we're going
2:06
to be growing lots of sunflowers.
2:08
Loopins. Loopins are eat good to grow.
2:11
I've grown them from seed many a times
2:13
and they're so easy to grow loopins.
2:15
Absolutely amazing and you can get some
2:19
great flowers on them and they do have a
2:20
long root on them. So these are perfect.
2:23
And the final flower is holly hawk.
2:26
Another great flower to grow and easy as
2:29
well. A lot of these flowers are easier
2:31
than you actually think when you're
2:32
growing them. So save yourself some
2:34
money and buy the seed and grow them
2:36
yourself. So obviously you can grow lots
2:40
of other things in them, but those are
2:42
the main things what you should try
2:43
growing in them. And obviously, like I
2:45
said, these are from Oakland Gardens. We
2:48
got these sent to us, so we're making
2:50
full use of them. It's the first time
2:51
I've ever used them this year, and I'm
2:53
absolutely loving them. They're ideal,
2:55
very deep, and perfect for storing all
2:57
my seeds this year. So check them out
3:02
And remember, keep smiling, keep
3:04
shining, and keep gardening with Ben,
