Welcome to our weekend roundup. Welcome
0:02
to Gardening with Ben, everybody. And
0:04
today we're going to be talking about
0:05
what we've got done down at the aotment
0:08
this weekend. Now, actually, yesterday
0:11
an absolute glorious day. It were 30°
0:13
here in the poll. Absolutely boiling,
0:16
but we got a lot of stuff done. We
0:18
planted 800 peas. Yes, 800 peas. Uh
0:22
there'll be a video coming along shortly
0:24
with regards to that. We're going to
0:25
grow them in the raised beds in here and
0:27
then once they've been harvested, that's
0:29
where we'll plant us tomatoes and our
0:31
cucumbers. We'll leave the roots in so
0:34
that it can feed the nitrogen back into
0:36
the compost and feed the plants as well.
0:38
So, we've done all that. We've planted
0:40
some iceberg lettuce seeds in here and
0:43
also some normal lettuce as well. So,
0:45
that's going to be pretty good as well.
0:49
We've also done a lot of seed sewing and
0:52
I mean a lot of seed sewing. Absolutely
0:55
loads. Uh can't believe how many seeds
0:58
we've sewn this weekend. We must have
1:00
sewn about 20 packets of seeds. So yes,
1:03
my greenhouse is getting pretty full and
1:05
pretty congested. But we're not having
1:07
to water them at the moment because
1:08
we're using the cling film method. We
1:10
put cling film over them so that it
1:12
keeps them moist, keeps them damp. And
1:15
once they start to germinate, that's
1:16
when we'll take the cling film on off
1:18
and we'll have to start watering them.
1:20
And if you saw one of my videos, I
1:23
posted that my seeds are germinating
1:26
from some that I sewed last week, which
1:28
were my ders. I can't believe how fast
1:30
they grow. I've never grown dies before.
1:32
So, this is the first year and I've
1:34
chosen to do them from seed rather than
1:39
root what you buy in the shops because
1:41
it's a lot cheaper obviously to grow
1:42
from seed and obviously you get more
1:45
plants as well. So, we're giving that a
1:46
try and seeing how well we get on with
1:49
it. It'll all be a learning curve and
1:51
hopefully we'll get all the ders. I've
1:53
must have planted about 300 ders. So
1:55
hopefully we'll get some nice color down
1:57
here at the plot. I'm I'm aiming to get
1:59
a lot of color down at the plot this
2:00
year. I want to have flowers all around
2:03
my beds and then the vegetables in the
2:05
middle so that this is bright. It's
2:07
colorful. It's attractive to the bees
2:09
and for the wildlife and the bugs and
2:11
the insects. So yeah, that is my plan
2:15
We've obviously also been doing a bit of
2:17
tidying up outside. We fed the birds.
2:19
All those being fed and the rhubarb's
2:22
coming on absolutely amazing. I'm just
2:24
hoping ready for that harvest soon. A
2:26
lot of people have been commenting on my
2:28
post saying that they be harvesting
2:29
rhubarb already. Whether they're down
2:31
south, I don't know, but mine's not
2:33
ready for harvesting yet. I'm waiting
2:35
for my first rhubarb harvest, which will
2:40
We've also been trying out some new
2:42
things what we've been given. We've got
2:44
a new plant pot towers what we're going
2:46
to grow sweet peas in. That'll be good.
2:49
We've also got a new weeding tool to try
2:51
out. And we've also been sent some
2:53
gladioli bulbs as well. So, well, not
2:56
bulbs, the corns. But we're going to
2:58
plant those in plant pots, I think,
2:59
because obviously we have the squive
3:01
issue down here. And it likes to pull up
3:04
anything that's in the ground. So, I'm
3:05
going to plant them in plant pots, cover
3:07
them with netting, and then once they're
3:08
big enough, I'll take the netting off to
3:11
look after them. So yeah, it's exciting
3:14
times. I'm thinking I'm getting up to
3:16
planting everything now. Sewing all my
3:18
seeds. I've still got some to do.
3:20
Obviously, there's quite a few what you
3:21
plant in April rather than in March.
3:24
Like your sweet corn, your runner beans,
3:26
French beans, they're all in April. So,
3:29
we've got all those to do next month.
3:30
And sunflowers will be next month as
3:33
well. So, we've got all that to do. So,
3:35
yeah, we're cracking on. We're getting
3:36
everything sewn. And the worst part will
3:39
be transplanting them all and pop
3:40
potting them all up once they're all
3:42
growing. It's always good to see them
3:44
growing, but then you think, "Oh, I've
3:45
got to transplant them all and put them
3:47
all, which it'll take absolutely
3:48
forever." But yeah, we'll crack on and
3:50
we'll get on with it. But I hope you've
3:52
enjoyed this and we've got lots of
3:54
content coming out for you this week.
3:56
So, make sure you stay tuned for that.
3:58
Until next time, everyone. Remember,

keep smiling, keep shining, and keep
