0:21
and let's enjoy today's episode hello
0:25
everyone and welcome back to gardening
0:28
with Ben yes this episode has come out
0:32
nice and early because it's the first
0:35
day of spring and I'm that excited I wet
0:38
my
0:39
plants I had to get that joke in there
0:42
sorry about that but yeah uh I'll
0:44
certainly be posting that one on my
0:46
Facebook and my Instagram later that I'm
0:49
so excited I wet my plants I always
0:52
laugh when I see that joke and if you do
0:54
like that joke I've got them on my
0:56
t-shirts as well so feel free to check
0:58
out my t-shirts the link is in the
1:01
description as well so go and check them
1:03
out so yeah spring has finally sprung
1:08
and wow what a week we're going to be
1:11
having this week it's going to be
1:13
absolutely gorgeous today is going to be
1:16
a bit cooler than yesterday but this
1:18
week it's going to get up to a whopping
1:21
20° C and that's just forecast at the
1:24
minute it could be even higher than that
1:26
so this week is a time to get excited
1:29
for the gardening
1:30
because now is the time when it's
1:32
kicking off it's time to start sewing
1:35
those seeds it's time to start planting
1:38
those early potatoes it's time to start
1:41
planting those onion sets it's time to
1:44
plant the broad beans it's time to plant
1:46
the early peas yes it's getting to that
1:49
time we're starting to plant stuff and
1:53
this warm weather is perfect weather for
1:55
sewing seeds and it will help them
1:58
germinate especially like peppers and
2:01
chilies melons the ones that need the
2:04
heat to germinate if it's going to be
2:06
20° outside what is the temperature
2:08
going to be inside the greenhouse it's
2:10
going to be phenomenal and it will
2:12
certainly help germinate all your seeds
2:15
that need
2:16
germinating so if you've got some time
2:19
this week get sewing those seeds but do
2:22
remember that it will still be cold at
2:24
night as the temperature can easily drop
2:27
with clear days and you can get some
2:31
Frost still around so just be careful
2:34
with what you're growing and what you're
2:36
sewing and don't plant anything outside
2:39
yet that's chance of frost will kill it
2:42
so make sure that you're only growing
2:43
stuff outside that can survive the
2:46
weather still so yeah it's certainly a
2:49
time to be getting excited it's
2:50
certainly a time to start getting those
2:54
Gardens grow growing and getting them
2:57
getting that motivation to get growing
3:00
because the warm weather certainly perks
3:02
you up and it certainly makes you want
3:04
to go out in the garden I've been lucky
3:07
this year I've the weather's been
3:09
fantastic throughout winter it's not
3:11
been a bad winter whatsoever and I've
3:14
kept going to the plot all the way
3:16
through winter so I'm ahead of schedule
3:19
my plot is coming along so well I've
3:21
made some drastic improvements this year
3:24
and planted so many new fruits and new
3:28
flowers and new sh rubbery and it's
3:31
going to look absolutely phenomenal this
3:34
year my plot and take a couple of years
3:37
for everything to get growing and get
3:39
fruit growing on it but in the years to
3:42
come it's going to be absolutely
3:44
fantastic and it's going to be worth it
3:46
while putting that much effort in over
3:48
winter can really help your garden
3:52
succeed throughout the springtime and
3:54
you can certainly get some good results
3:56
from it so yeah spring is going to be
3:59
fantastic month for me down at the plot
4:02
I'm going to be busy finishing off all
4:04
my plot getting it all tidy getting all
4:07
the beds painted getting all the beds
4:10
dug over getting it all weeded getting
4:14
everything tip toop shape and then come
4:16
end of March when I get paid I'm going
4:18
to be planting all my seeds I've got so
4:21
many seeds to plant I can't believe how
4:23
many seeds I've got to plant I'm going
4:25
to have to get some more seed tray
4:26
probably but I've got about 30 packets
4:29
of flower seeds alone to plant which
4:32
will take up a lot of allotment space
4:35
but I'm so excited I'm at I won't so all
4:37
the seeds I don't think but we have got
4:40
a fantastic selection and I've bought so
4:42
many perennial flowers as well which
4:44
means that they will come back year
4:46
after year which I'm trying to do more
4:48
of on the plot the more that I can get
4:50
growing year on year the better it is
4:52
because I don't have to S it every year
4:55
so that's my plan to get more perennial
4:57
plants and come the end of the month I'm
4:59
hoping to get some lavender plants as
5:02
well for the plot because the bees love
5:04
them and it smells beautiful so walking
5:07
onto my plot that's what I want the
5:09
lavender plants on the entrance on my
5:11
plot so that as soon as you walk on
5:13
you're like wow it just hits you just
5:16
like that that's the plan anyway so
5:18
we'll see how well it
5:20
goes but I'm so excited um like I said
5:25
over the months I've been struggling so
5:27
much but the warm and w and the
5:30
beautiful blue skies certainly do cheer
5:33
you up and being out in the garden does
5:35
help and it's good to see all the bees
5:38
buzzing around like I said in my podcast
5:40
yesterday I saw my first ladyb bird
5:42
yesterday and it's everything's just
5:45
waking up now everything's just coming
5:47
out to life looking at all my fruit
5:49
trees are all budding up and getting all
5:52
the leaves growing on them yesterday
5:54
when I was sorting out my raspberries
5:56
all my raspberry canes are getting
5:58
leaves on them now they're all waking up
6:00
it's they know it's springtime they know
6:02
it's ready to start growing they know
6:05
it's ready that that it's time to come
6:07
out of hibernation and get growing and
6:10
same goes for gardening if you've been
6:12
in hibernation all winter wake up it's
6:15
time to get out in those Gardens it's
6:17
time to enjoy it and make it a good
6:20
space for you to be make it your happy
6:22
place and certainly do enjoy being out
6:25
in it you can spend so much time in your
6:29
Gard if you want like we had the
6:31
previous lock down the first lockdown
6:33
two years ago it was around March time
6:36
and the weather was phenomenal and
6:38
everybody found a love for the gardens
6:40
again because that's the only place they
6:42
could go so everybody found a love for
6:44
the gardens again so it's good to make
6:47
it a good space for you to spend so that
6:50
you can be out there and enjoy it so
6:54
make the most of this spring
6:56
everybody write your lists if you've not
6:59
wrote your list of all the gardening
7:00
jobs that need doing and get cracking
7:03
this week especially now that it's early
7:06
Sun comes up early in the morning and
7:09
it's a lot lighter at night so make the
7:12
most of the weather this week while we
7:14
have it everyone try and get those
7:16
Gardens transformed get all them jobs
7:18
done that need doing get all the repairs
7:21
done from winter when we had the
7:22
terrible winds and stuff like that get
7:25
out in them Gardens and enjoy this
7:27
beautiful weather so so that has been a
7:30
shorter little episode today hopefully
7:33
the podcast will carry on over the week
7:35
but we'll have to see because my
7:38
subscriptions due to end on my podcast
7:41
uh today and I need to pay for the next
7:44
month but I can't afford it until payday
7:46
so I'm going to have to wait until
7:48
payday to pay for the subscription which
7:49
is20 a month uh but hopefully we will
7:53
get the podcast up and running again
7:55
soon I might pre-record some and it
7:57
might still work if I pre-record sub so
8:00
we'll have to see so if you don't hear
8:02
from mate until next Friday when I get
8:05
paid that is why because the podcast is
8:08
not subscribed uh subscriptions run out
8:11
so yeah thank you for all your support
8:14
if you do fancy one of my gardening with
8:15
Ben t-shirts or any other designs that I
8:19
have I've got loads of t-shirt designs
8:22
