Stop squirrels and mice and rats from
0:04
eating your sweet corn. Welcome to
0:06
Gardening with Ben. And in this video,
0:08
we're going to show you how we stop the
0:10
rodents from eating your sweet corn. One
0:14
of the years I came down and thought,
0:16
I'm going to pick my sweet corn
0:17
tomorrow. The next day, it had all been
0:19
devastated. The lot had been stripped.
0:22
So, ever since then, I've protected them
0:24
and it's worked 100% in keeping the
0:28
crops and stopping them from eating the
0:30
sweet corn. And I've seen other people
0:32
on the plot have their stripped and
0:34
yeah, it works. So, let's show you how
0:37
we stop the squirrels and the mice and
0:40
the rats from eating them.
0:42
So, as you can see, they're starting to
0:44
turn brown now, which means that they're
0:46
nearly ready. And they will be screaming
0:48
out to the rodents and sending out the
0:50
scent, saying, "Eat me. I'm ready. I'm
0:52
getting ready. And I've got delicious
0:54
sweet corn inside of me." So, how do we
0:58
stop them from being eaten? And what do
1:00
we use to protect them with? Well, we
1:03
use bottles. Yes, bottles. This works
1:07
fantastic. Obviously, you've got to wait
1:10
until they start going brown because
1:11
then you know they pollinated and that
1:13
the sweet corn has been formed. So, what
1:16
you do is chop off the bottoms off the
1:18
bottles. And all you do is just stick it
1:24
over the cob like so. And there you go.
1:29
That's your sweet corn protected. And
1:31
you can let it ripen and pick it when
1:33
it's ready for harvesting. So, yeah,
1:35
let's get them all covered.
1:38
So, we've got a lot of them covered with
1:40
the bottles. I know it looks unsightly,
1:42
but it is a case of protecting them from
1:45
the squirrels, and we'll take these off
1:47
and put them on the others as the others
1:49
start to ripen. Hopefully, next week I
1:51
may be harvesting some as they're
1:53
looking pretty ready now. They're
1:55
getting ready towards harvesting. So,
1:57
yeah, if you want to protect your crops,
1:59
this is what you do to save your sweet
2:02
corn. I hope you found that tip useful.
2:06
and let me know if you're going to do it
2:07
yourself. Make sure you share it to
2:09
other people that grow sweet corn as
2:11
well and to a lotment groups. And give
2:13
it a like, leave a comment. Until next
2:15
time everyone, remember keep smiling,
2:17
keep shining and keep gardening with
