I want to show you something exciting.
0:03
Welcome to Gardening with Ben. And I've
0:04
spotted something on my a lotment. I've
0:06
not actually been on the growing area of
0:09
my plot for ages because I've been
0:11
concentrating on building the front of
0:13
it, been tidying it all up around the
0:15
entrance. I've not actually been onto my
0:17
plot. And I I I should admit I should
0:20
actually come onto my plot and see
0:21
what's happening and seeing what's
0:22
actually growing and ready for
0:24
harvesting. But have a look at this
0:28
I have never managed to grow a white
0:30
cauliflower down on my plot. This year I
0:33
managed to grow carrots for the first
0:35
time in 22 years. Well, this is
0:37
absolutely amazing. Look at this. Look
0:41
at that cauliflower, everyone. That is
0:43
absolutely amazing. I can't believe I've
0:46
managed to grow a cauliflower. This
0:48
netting has been a lifesaver. It's done
0:50
absolutely fantastic. So, we need to get
0:51
that out. But not only is it just that
0:54
one, we have got another one there. Look
0:57
at that. Absolutely amazing. And we've
0:59
got some smaller ones there. So, we're
1:02
going to get them harvested and also
1:04
taken home with us. I can't wait to eat
1:08
But it doesn't stop there. Everybody,
1:09
come and have a look at this. So, all my
1:12
cabbages and cauliflowers got absolutely
1:14
decimated by the pigeons, and I got this
1:17
netting from Oakland Gardens to protect
1:19
them, and they've grown back absolutely
1:22
amazing. Look at that cauliflower. It's
1:23
a purple one. Absolutely fantastic. I
1:26
can't believe that. That is so good. And
1:29
then I've got another one here as well.
1:31
So, these are ready for harvesting these
1:33
because you've got to be careful with
1:34
cauliflowers that they don't start to
1:36
flower because they soon start to flower
1:38
straight away. So, we need to get those
1:40
harvested and taken home with us for
1:43
cooking with. So, I can't wait for that.
1:47
So, look at them beauties. Absolutely
1:50
fantastically harvested. Absolutely
1:53
massive size white heads on that one.
1:55
That one's a bit smaller, but yeah, the
1:57
purple ones look absolutely gorgeous. I
1:59
can't wait to eat those. Going to get
2:01
some cheese sauce to put on them because
2:03
I love cheese sauce on cauliflower. So,
2:06
yeah, I'm looking forward to eating
2:10
So, I'm absolutely over the moon with
2:12
those white cauliflower and the purple
2:14
ones as well. I've always said that I
2:16
grow the purple ones cuz I've never
2:18
managed to grow a white cauliflower down
2:20
at the autumn and the purple ones always
2:22
seem to do a lot better. Well, I've
2:24
proven myself wrong. I've actually
2:26
managed to grow the white cauliflowers
2:28
this year. To say it's been an absolute
2:31
nightmare watering this year. And to be
2:33
honest, I've not always watered. I've
2:35
left it. They've actually grown really
2:37
well. And I can't believe it. I can't
2:39
believe how well the cauliflower has
2:41
grown to say how hot it's been this year
2:44
and how dry it's been and no rain and
2:46
stuff like that. And yeah, we've managed
2:48
it. We cracked it. The netting were
2:50
absolutely perfect. It kept the white
2:53
caterpillars off them and the pigeons
2:55
after they decimated them, but they grew
2:57
back and they grew back nice and strong.
3:00
So sometimes if you think that you've
3:02
lost all your crops, just give them a
3:05
bit of protection after they've been
3:06
decimated and they'll come back. And
3:08
look at me, I've managed to do it. And
3:10
I'm no professional gardener. I never
3:12
admit that I'm a professional gardener
3:14
at all. I just share my journey of what
3:16
I get up to down here at the a lotment.
3:18
whether I'm doing it right, whether I'm
3:19
doing it wrong. Uh I always just give it
3:22
a try and see how well it gets on. And
3:25
this year we've proved itself fantastic
3:27
with the carrots, with the cauliflower.
3:30
Absolutely amazing. So yeah, remember
3:33
never give up. Always keep trying. Even
3:37
if it fails every year, just keep trying
3:39
and one year you will get success. So
3:41
until next time everyone remember keep
3:43
smiling, keep shining and keep gardening
