What vegetables to grow in November in
0:03
pots? Welcome to Gardening with Ben. And
0:05
I get a lot of questions asking me,
0:07
"What can I grow in pots? Can I grow
0:08
this in pots? Can I grow that in pots?"
0:10
So, I thought I'd do a video to share
0:12
with you exactly what can be grown in
0:14
pots in November. So, I hope you've got
0:16
a notepad to make note of these. And
0:19
yeah, the first up is broad beans. A
0:22
great thing to grow. You can grow them
0:24
in troughs, put some trolls up and grow
0:26
them up them. And the best thing about
0:27
growing broad beans now is that they'll
0:29
be ready to harvest before the blackfly
0:31
appear. Blackfly usually appear on the
0:34
the crop when you sew them in March
0:35
time, but hopefully they'll be ready to
0:38
harvest before they appear. Now, make
0:40
sure that you get a variety called
0:41
Aquadulus Claudia as that's a variety
0:44
that you need to grow. It's a winter
0:45
hardy variety and yet you can get great
0:48
crops from it. Next up is garlic. As
0:51
long as it's a big size bowl, make sure
0:53
that they're well spaced apart. You
0:55
should be able to grow garlic in pots.
0:58
Make sure that there's plenty of
0:59
drainage in it, lifted off the floor and
1:01
pot feet. And yeah, you don't want them
1:04
to get water logged. So, make sure that
1:05
they kept free. Make sure that you net
1:08
them to stop the birds from pulling them
1:09
up and pinching them. But yeah, you can
1:11
grow garlic. Again, the same goes for
1:14
autumn onions and shellots. Again, make
1:18
sure that they're well spaced apart. You
1:19
won't fit many onions in a pot, but if
1:22
it's a big enough pot, you might be able
1:23
to fit a few in. And the same goes for
1:25
shellots. Obviously, they're better in
1:27
the ground. But if you wanted to do a
1:29
few, if you've got a big enough pot you
1:31
can actually grow them. Next up is
1:34
winter spinach. Again, it needs to be a
1:36
winter hardy variety. Put them in a pot.
1:39
Make sure that they've got well drainage
1:42
and you can keep snipping them off as
1:44
and when they're ready. It'll grow a lot
1:45
slower at this time of year, but you can
1:47
get some great crops from it. Next up is
1:51
winter lettuce. Another great thing to
1:53
grow throughout the winter. Needs to be
1:55
a variety called Arctic King. That's the
1:57
winter Harley variety, but again, it'll
1:59
grow slower, but you can get some great
2:02
cropping from it for your salads.
2:06
Next is kale. Now, kale obviously is a
2:09
big plant, but if you've got some
2:11
established plants, you can plant them
2:13
in there. But again, make sure they're
2:14
well spaced apart. You won't fit many in
2:16
a pot because they do get big and bushy.
2:18
But even if you've got a couple, it'll
2:21
still give you a great harvest from it
2:22
and you'll keep be able to keep snipping
2:24
the leaves off and keep using them in
2:28
If you like your peashoots, that's a
2:30
great variety to grow. You can grow them
2:33
in raised beds or in pots themselves.
2:35
And then obviously when they start to
2:36
get the shoots on, you can keep snipping
2:38
them off and adding them to your salad.
2:41
Peashoots do have a lovely flavor.
2:43
They're quite a good thing to grow and
2:45
obviously a lot of people grow them for
2:47
micro greens. So, it's a great thing to
2:50
grow and obviously like I said, protect
2:52
them from the mice and the rats because
2:53
they will like them. They will find
2:55
them. Trust me, they'll find them. So,
2:56
make sure they're netted over and
2:58
protected from them and hopefully you
3:00
should get some great results from them.
3:03
And finally is rocket. Another great
3:06
thing to add to a salad with a bit of a
3:07
kick. And yeah, rocket is easy to grow.
3:11
Again, it'll grow a bit slower in the
3:13
poly tunnel and greenhouse uh this time
3:15
of year, but you should still get great
3:17
rewards from them and hopefully some
3:19
great rocket from them. So, I hope you

3:38
And if you're wanting to grow some
3:39
herbs, parsley, thyme, and sage will be
3:42
growing slowly at this time of year, but
3:44
you can still get cropping from it. And
3:47
just make sure it's in a sheltered
3:48
position so that it doesn't get too
3:50
frosty. But you can get some great
3:53
results from kale uh spit from your
3:56
herbs. And yeah, you can always dry them
3:59
out once they're ready and use them as
4:01
and when needed. So that is all the
4:04
things that you can grow in pots in
4:06
November. So, I hope you found that
4:08
useful. Do drop us a follow to stay up
