This video shows the free seeds included in the February issue of Kitchen Garden magazine in the UK and explains what can be grown from them. It looks at the varieties provided and how suitable they are for early season sowing.
The guide discusses when to sow the seeds, where to grow them and whether they are suitable for allotments, gardens, containers or greenhouse growing. It also explains how gardeners can use magazine free seeds to start growing vegetables and flowers at low cost.
If you want to start growing without spending much money, this video provides practical advice on using free seed packets and planning what to grow for the coming season.

0:00
and welcome to Gardening with Ben. So,
0:02
in today's video, we're going to talk
0:04
about what free seeds we've got in the
0:06
kitchen garden magazine. If you didn't
0:07
check out the last video, that was Grow
0:10
Your Own magazine and some great seeds
0:12
in that one. So, have a look at that
0:14
video and see what seeds you get in the
0:16
Grow Your Own magazine. Now, this feels
0:17
really fake. There must be something
0:19
extra in it. Yeah, as you can see, it's
0:23
first time that I've seen what's in
0:24
them, so it's an unboxing video.
0:29
Let's have a look at what seeds we've
0:31
got in here.
0:34
The best thing about these is that they
0:35
have seeds in them what you wouldn't
0:37
always buy from the shop. So, it's good
0:39
to try new stuff and see how well it
0:42
grows. So, yeah, we have got Mr.
0:46
Fatherill seeds, which we know are a
0:47
great variety of seeds. We've got some
0:50
white radish. Look at them ones. They
0:52
look great. Never grown them before. So,
0:55
I'm going to give them a try and see how
0:56
well they do. I might grow them in the
0:58
poly tunnel so then they'll grow faster
1:00
and obviously they're quite deep as well
1:03
so they'll be great in my raised beds.
1:07
Next up we have got
1:11
purple cauliflower. Now
1:14
that looks weird doesn't it? But this is
1:17
what I mean that they have stuff in it
1:19
what you wouldn't usually try. Now I
1:21
tried these one year and these grew
1:23
better than the white variety of
1:24
cauliflower down on my plot. So, I've
1:26
stuck to growing them. So, I'm happy
1:28
that we've got these seeds because I'll
1:30
be definitely growing these this year.
1:32
And yeah, a great variety to grow. So,
1:34
if you've never tried them, give them a
1:36
try cuz they're brilliant.
1:40
Next up, we've got some carrots. We
1:42
always have packets of carrots.
1:44
Absolutely loads. 350 seeds. Do we grow
1:48
all 350 carrots?
1:51
Cuz each seed will grow one carrot. So
1:53
yeah, we will be trying carrots again
1:56
this year.
2:00
Next up is beetroot. Obviously, we'll
2:02
get some seeds, what we've got in the
2:03
other magazine in these ones as well.
2:06
But you never have enough beetroot cuz
2:08
beetroot freshly grown, freshly cooked,
2:10
is absolutely delicious. And if you've
2:12
never had warm beetroot before, you're
2:15
missing out. So give beetroot a try.
2:18
Easy to grow and usually a great cropper
2:20
as well.
2:24
Next up, spinach. Make you big and
2:26
strong like Papey.
2:28
But yeah, we've grown spinach in the
2:30
past. We've had great success. So, we'll
2:32
be growing them again this year. So, all
2:34
these seeds, what we're getting, ones
2:35
that we will be growing. So, it saves me
2:37
having to go out and buy them all. But,
2:38
we need to sort them all out, see what
2:40
we're going to be growing when, and
2:41
where. So, we've got a big job to do.
2:44
Some basil. Like I said, I'm going to be
2:46
making a little herb patch on the plot.
2:48
So, that will be great to have on the
2:50
plot. and we'll see how well it gets on.
2:55
Next up is another variety of radish.
2:58
So, we had the white ones, we've got
3:00
small little red ones now. Another great
3:02
easy variety to grow. Radish is the one
3:04
of the fastest growing vegetables that
3:06
you can grow. So, if you want to try and
3:09
grow radish, it'll grow really fast.
3:14
An excellent one. What I'm happy about,
3:16
I've got parsnips. I've never grown
3:18
parsnips before. So, this is going to be
3:20
the first year that I grow parsnips. And
3:22
when do we sew these? We sew these
3:25
around February, March time. So, we'll
3:28
probably sew them next month when it's a
3:29
bit warmer. And yeah, again, I might
3:32
grow these in the poly tunnel, but I
3:33
don't know. I might grow them outside
3:35
because parsnips like the frost to give
3:38
them the sweetness. So, you don't
3:40
usually harvest them till it's we've had
3:42
a couple of frosts to help give them a
3:44
nice sweet taste. So yeah, another great
3:47
thing to grow. I'm happy with all these
3:50
seeds so far. We've got some great
3:51
stuff. Parsley again be great in my
3:54
little herb patch. What I'm going to
3:55
start this year and see how well they
3:58
get on. So we're getting some great
4:00
herbs as well. And one of my other
4:02
favorites, what I always grow lettuce.
4:04
So yeah, another successful magazine
4:07
with great seeds in and all the ones
4:09
that I will actually grow this year. I'm
4:11
going to be growing absolutely loads
4:12
down here. I want them. And obviously
4:14
I've got three magazines. So that's 30
4:16
packets of seat. It's going to be a busy
4:19
time down at the plot. But yeah, let's
4:20
have a look what we've got in the
4:22
kitchen garden magazine because we said
4:24
it quite thick. Obviously, we've got the
4:26
magazine. Great read usually from a
4:29
lotmenters and gardeners and yeah, it's
4:31
pretty down to earth and always learning
4:34
tips and advice. Now, we've got a great
4:36
magazine in here. I'm happy with this.
4:39
Growing month by month. So, it's a
4:42
fickish book. what it tells you what to
4:44
grow each and every month. So yeah, a
4:47
great magazine. I'm happy with this.
4:50
Rejuvenate hungry rhubarb. It gives you
4:53
tips and advice on growing stuff. So
4:55
yeah, Kitchen Garden magazine February
4:57
edition. Great edition this month. So go
5:00
out and have a look and get that for
5:02
your a lotments for tips and advice and
5:04
some great seeds. So I hope you found
5:06
that useful. come back to the next video
5:08
because we've got the Homegrown Kitchen
5:11
magazine which is a brand new one for
5:13
this year. So, let's have a look and see
5:15
what's in there. Until next time
5:16
everyone, remember, keep smiling, keep
5:18
shining, and keep gardening with Ben,
5:20
everyone.
