CLEARING TOMATO PLANTS FOR WINTER โ ESSENTIAL GREENHOUSE & POLYTUNNEL JOBS! ๐ฑ
Welcome back to Gardening with Ben!
Well, that's another tomato-growing season coming to an end down at the allotment!
Today we're heading into the greenhouse and polytunnel to clear out our old tomato plants, tidy the growing areas and get everything ready for the colder months ahead.
It's important to give your greenhouse or polytunnel a good clean at the end of the tomato season, especially if you've had problems with pests or diseases during the year.
๐
IN TODAY'S VIDEO:
โ
Harvesting the last tomatoes of the season
โ
Removing old tomato plants and roots
โ
Taking down plant supports, strings and ties
โ
Checking for pests and signs of tomato blight
โ
Clearing fallen leaves and plant debris
โ
Preparing the greenhouse and polytunnel for winter crops
๐ฑ WE'LL ALSO TALK ABOUT:
What to do with green tomatoes at the end of the season
Why diseased tomato plants should be disposed of carefully
How to clean and disinfect reusable supports and equipment
Whether you need to replace your greenhouse compost
Improving the soil ready for next year's crops
What vegetables you can grow in your greenhouse during winter
Healthy plant material can be composted, but if your tomatoes have suffered from serious disease, take extra care with disposal to avoid spreading problems around the allotment.
It's always sad saying goodbye to the tomato plants, but there's plenty more gardening to enjoy during autumn and winter!
