What bulbs have I purchased this week?
0:03
Welcome to Gardening with Ben. Well,
0:05
yesterday I posted about the co-op
0:08
selling bulbs at 20 and I asked the
0:11
question, did I buy any or did I not? Of
0:13
course I did. Of course I bought some.
0:15
You can't pass up bulbs at 20 a pop, can
0:19
you? So, what bulbs did we buy from the
0:22
co-op? So, let's have a look. So, we
0:25
bought some aliums. I love aliiums.
0:27
Aliums are absolutely fantastic. They
0:30
come up a bit later than the spring
0:32
bulbs themselves, but these have massive
0:34
purple heads on and the bees absolutely
0:37
love them. And also once aliums die off,
0:40
they leave a nice ball what you can dry
0:43
out and use in vasees and yeah, they
0:46
look really nice. Uh so if you're into
0:48
your flower arranging, they're fantastic
0:49
for that. But yeah, the bees absolutely
0:52
love them. We also bought lots and lots
0:55
of tulips. I absolutely love tulips.
0:57
Tulips add so much nice color to the a
1:00
lotment and brighten the place up. So,
1:02
I'm going to be planting all these
1:04
tulips in my entrance to my plot so that
1:08
when you walk on, it will looks
1:09
absolutely fabulous. And it certainly
1:12
will do next year. Who? Forget about
1:14
Amsterdam. My a lotment will be a lot
1:16
better with the amount of tulips I'm
1:18
going to be planting. So, we've got the
1:20
Triumph mix, which is a nice colorful
1:23
selection of bulbs. And yeah, there's
1:25
five in a pack and we bought 10 packs of
1:28
them. So yeah, we also bought some nice
1:31
pink ones as well, Menon. So those will
1:35
look nice as well. And then we also
1:37
bought these ones. I do love the unusual
1:40
looking tulips, the ones that look a bit
1:42
different to the normal tulips. So these
1:44
are double late mix. So these ones will
1:46
come out a bit later than the other
1:48
ones. So yeah, we're going to have a
1:50
fantastic selection of tulips in the
1:53
entrance. Hopefully I'm going to get
1:55
these planted this weekend, but I can't
1:56
do that today because obviously it's
1:58
been raining all night yesterday and
2:00
it's still raining today. So hopefully
2:02
we'll get these in over the next couple
2:04
of days on the plot. So yeah, I'm
2:07
looking forward to next year. It's going
2:09
to look absolutely beautiful down at the
2:14
So that's going to be a busy job getting
2:18
So yeah, we have got so many spring
2:20
bulbs to plant. As you know, I've
2:22
planted absolutely loads in my new areas
2:25
of my a lotment. Uh the places that
2:28
haven't had spring bulbs in before. So
2:30
they look absolutely gorgeous.
2:32
Obviously, we've got all the spring
2:33
bulbs in from years before, but I always
2:36
think they might not come up one year or
2:39
they might be less because the squirrels
2:41
ate them or took them apart, took them
2:42
away. But yeah, I love to add extra
2:46
spring bulbs every single year. And
2:48
people ask me, why do I grow spring
2:50
bulbs when you can't eat them? I love
2:52
them to because they attract the bees.
2:53
The bees like them when they first wake
2:55
up from hibernation. They add pollen and
2:58
nectar to the plot and they give them
3:00
the energy they need for the year ahead.
3:02
And obviously around springtime, the
3:04
plot's looking pretty dull. There's not
3:06
much growing. There's not much life in
3:08
it. And it adds a lot of color to it and
3:10
makes it look absolutely gorgeous as
3:12
well. So yeah, I'm looking forward to
3:14
next year. It's going to look absolutely
3:16
amazing down here. Fingers crossed they
3:19
all do grow and we do get a fantastic
3:21
display. So, make sure you drop us a
3:23
follow to stay up to date and see what
3:24
they look like in the springtime. Until
3:26
next time everyone, remember to keep
3:28
smiling, keep shining and keep gardening
