Let's give you our weekly update on our
0:02
Oakland Gardens strawberry hanging
0:05
baskets. Welcome to Gardening with Ben,
0:06
everyone. And as you know, I've got some
0:09
strawberries growing in hanging baskets
0:10
in the poly tunnel this year. I thought
0:12
I'd give it a try as I do grow them
0:14
outside and I'm still growing them
0:15
outside in the ground. But they get a
0:17
lot of like wood lice and mice and um
0:20
squirrels pinching them and eating them
0:22
and making holes in them. So I thought
0:24
why not try growing them in some hanging
0:26
baskets in a lot warmer environment in
0:29
the poly tunnel so they'll be ready
0:31
earlier and also they're everbearing
0:33
strawberries so hopefully they'll keep
0:35
fruiting throughout the summer period.
0:37
That is the plan if it all goes to well
0:40
and they're absolutely shooting up now.
0:43
Now it's starting to get warmer. They're
0:44
growing absolutely fantastic. So let's
0:47
have a look and see what we're up to
0:48
with them. So, as you can see, they're
0:51
all doing absolutely fantastic. They're
0:53
all taking all growing and growing
0:57
really, really well. I can't believe how
0:58
well they're all growing. Absolutely
1:00
amazing. The strawberries. I can't
1:03
believe it. They've taken so well and
1:05
doing really, really well. There's only
1:07
a couple what don't seem to be growing.
1:09
Oh, that one's just starting to grow,
1:10
actually. Uh, so yeah, I might replace
1:13
them ones with ones that are healthy and
1:15
growing cuz I've got a few spare ones.
1:17
So yeah, they're all coming along pretty
1:20
well and I'm expecting that will do some
1:23
really good harvesting this year with
1:25
strawberries. Absolutely amazing. I
1:28
can't believe it. But yeah, we've even
1:31
got a flower on this one. So what we
1:33
need to do is take that off because we
1:36
want it to concentrate on growing the
1:39
plant. and the flowers will still come
1:42
again hopefully later as apparently if
1:45
you take the flowers off in the first
1:47
couple of weeks then they'll produce
1:50
more fruit on them. That's what I've
1:51
read up on anyway. I've been reading up
1:53
on growing strawberries and these are
1:55
the everbearing ones. So they'll fruit
1:57
all summer long. That is the plan
1:59
anyway. And obviously they'll be ready a
2:01
lot earlier than they would be outdoors
2:03
cuz it's nice and warm and a lot better
2:06
in here. Obviously we have to keep them
2:08
watered well regular feeling and they
2:11
are pretty damp so they don't need a
2:13
water today. They're pretty good and
2:16
yeah they're growing really well. I
2:17
can't believe how well they're doing.
2:19
I'm absolutely amazed with it. Like I
2:21
said this is new thing for me. It's a
2:22
new trial and we'll see how we get on.
2:26
But hopefully if all goes to plan we'll
2:30
get a lot of strawberries off this year.
2:32
300 plants in these baskets. But yeah,
2:37
you'll have to stay tuned to see how
2:39
well they get on this year down at the
2:41
plot. So, I hope that you're enjoying
2:44
following along with these.
2:47
So, make sure you do drop us a follow to
2:49
stay up to date with all our videos and
2:50
how well they're getting on. We keep
2:52
posting weekly updates on them, so you
2:54
can follow along and see how well the
2:56
strawberries do. Until next time
2:57
everyone, remember, keep smiling, keep
3:00
shining, and keep gardening with Ben
