0:00
It's Good Friday everybody. So, let's
0:02
plant our potatoes. Now, I always stick
0:04
to Good Friday because it's an old
0:06
gardener's tale that you plant it to do
0:08
with the moon and that's what I've
0:09
always stuck by. So, that is what we are
0:12
doing this year. We're going to be
0:13
planting our potatoes in tubs. And yeah,
0:16
we probably won't get them all in tubs.
0:17
We'll be planting some outside in the
0:19
ground because I've I'd need more tubs
0:21
and a lot more compost. But yeah, we're
0:23
gonna plant most of them in tubs and get
0:25
them growing that way because I do
0:27
prefer them in tubs because then you
0:28
don't stab them when you dig them up and
0:30
you don't get wirew worm in them. So
0:33
yeah, we're going to grow most of them
0:34
in tubs. So let's get some planted and
0:37
let's get some growing.
0:39
So these are my potatoes what we've had
0:41
chitting. We got these from the Jameson
0:43
brothers and yeah, as you can see
0:45
they're sending out all the shoots,
0:46
which is what we want, all the chits.
0:48
You don't have to chit them, but we
0:50
always do that to give them that little
0:51
bit of speed along and get them growing
0:54
a bit faster. So, we need to get some
0:56
compost in the bottom of these. And then
0:58
we're going to put about four potatoes
1:00
in each bucket. I was thinking three,
1:02
but I need more buckets cuz I've got
1:05
that many potatoes to grow. So, we're
1:07
going to try and squeeze four in each
1:08
one. So, let's get some compost in the
1:10
bottom of them and let's get the
1:14
So, I've not filled it right far up.
1:16
We've only put a tiny bit in the bottom.
1:18
So, we're going to pop those four
1:23
Make sure that they spread out. We're
1:24
standing them up so that the shoots are
1:26
facing upwards because you don't want
1:29
them to face the bottom.
1:42
So, hopefully that's not too many
1:43
potatoes in. Hopefully that'll be all
1:45
right. But yeah, we're going to stick
1:47
with four in there. So, let's get some
1:51
potato fertilizer in to give them some
1:52
extra food for the roots and then get
1:55
them covered over compost.
1:58
So, this is the fertilizer that I'm
2:00
using to help feed the potatoes. Like I
2:02
said, we're going to sprinkle some in
2:03
the bottom and then when they get
2:04
growing, we'll put some on we'll keep
2:06
feeding them on top and hopefully
2:08
they'll produce some bumper potato crops
2:11
in these buckets. They won't be massive
2:12
cuz the buckets uh are only 30 L, but we
2:16
should hopefully get a decent cropping
2:18
of potatoes in them. So, there we are.
2:21
We sprinkle some in. It absolutely
2:23
stinks. This smells awful. But yeah,
2:25
let's get those potatoes covered. We're
2:27
going to fill them to about halfway
2:28
until the green shoots start popping
2:30
through and then we'll put more compost
2:34
So, we filled it about halfway full. So,
2:37
there's still plenty of room to put more
2:39
compost on when the green shoots start
2:40
coming. and that will help produce more
2:42
potatoes. We've also put some more
2:44
fertilizer on top because it will help
2:47
with the growth of them. So, yeah, let's
2:50
do the rest of them all. Oh, and one
2:52
thing, remember to label them up so that
2:56
you know what varieties in each bucket
2:58
because you don't want to forget which
2:59
variety you have grown.
3:02
So, that's them all planted up. We've
3:04
given them a good soaking as well so
3:07
that they can start growing. And then
3:09
when the shoots start popping through
3:10
the compost, like I said, cover them
3:12
with more compost up to the top. And
3:15
that will encourage more and more
3:17
potatoes in there. Obviously, keep them
3:19
well watered because they will dry out
3:21
pretty fast with it being compost,
3:24
especially when it starts to get warmer,
3:26
but until then, you can just water them
3:28
every so often because the rain should
3:30
do its work and keep them well watered.
3:33
So, yeah, I'm excited. Lots of potatoes
3:36
coming this year down at the a lotment.
3:40
So, make sure you hit that follow button
3:42
to stay up to date with how well our
3:44
potatoes grow this year down at the
3:45
plot. Until next time everyone,
3:47
remember, keep smiling, keep shining,
3:49
and keep gardening with Ben everyone.
