This video shows how garden arches and support structures can be used to grow climbing fruit and organise growing space effectively.
It covers positioning supports, planning layout and how vertical growing improves airflow, plant health and harvests. Good structure planning helps gardens stay productive and easier to manage.
These tips apply to home gardens, raised beds, small spaces and backyard growing areas.
Suitable for UK and international gardeners in temperate climates.

Hey up and welcome to Gardening with
0:02
Ben. It's been a while since we've been
0:04
at the plot. We've not been very well.
0:06
Uh had a bad chest infection and yeah,
0:09
we've been taking it easy and having a
0:11
rest, but we're back down at the plot
0:13
today. Going to take it easy. We're not
0:15
going to do too much, but we're going to
0:17
start building a new fruit cage type
0:21
supports for all my um Loganberries for
0:25
my grape vines. So, that is our plan
0:27
today. So, let's have a look at what
0:28
we're doing.
0:30
So, this is where I grow all my
0:31
blackberry canes, all my Loganberries,
0:33
all my grape vines down this side of the
0:35
plot. And as you can see, we've got them
0:38
fastened up. Not brilliantly, but we're
0:41
going to be improving this over the next
0:44
weekend. So, yeah, we've got a busy job
0:47
on, not too strenuous. Uh, it's not too
0:50
hard, not too difficult, but we're going
0:51
to crack on and get this area looking a
0:54
lot better and more manageable as part
0:57
of our a lotment revamp. So yeah, let's
0:59
crack on. So we have purchased eight
1:03
archers for our a lotment from Denny.
1:07
And yeah, we're going to use those to
1:09
grow our grape vines over and our
1:12
Loganberries. And hopefully they'll be a
1:14
lot more supported and easier to tie up
1:16
and keep controlled. So we've got to put
1:18
all these eight arches together and
1:21
hopefully get them all in place this
1:23
weekend. So let's get them put together.
1:27
So, we've put together four of the
1:29
frames. So, we've just got the last four
1:31
to put together now. I'm becoming an
1:33
expert at putting these uh arches
1:35
together. Now, they don't take long.
1:36
They only take about 10 15 minutes to
1:38
put together. But yeah, let's get the
1:40
other four done.
1:43
And there we have it. All eight arches
1:45
built. Finally, that's that job done.
1:48
And as you can hear, it's absolutely
1:50
chucking it down tomorrow today. So
1:52
hopefully we'll be back tomorrow to
1:55
start putting them up and putting them
1:56
in place of the new area. So yeah,
1:59
fingers crossed that the weather's
2:01
decent and we can get lots done tomorrow
2:04
down at the plot. So make sure you stay
2:06
tuned.
2:08
Hey up everybody. It's day two of the
2:12
transformation. Putting the arches up
2:14
down at the a lotment. So it's a bit
2:15
colder today, but it's not raining which
2:17
is good. so we can get out and put them
2:20
up while start putting them up and see
2:22
how many we can do today. So yeah, let's
2:25
see what the plan is. So these are the
2:28
eight arches what we need to put up.
2:30
These are all going outside today. So
2:33
let's see where we're putting them. So
2:35
we're going to be putting them all
2:36
around this area here and stabilizing
2:40
all the fruits growing around this area
2:43
and hopefully get it all sorted. So
2:45
yeah, let's get cracking and let's get
2:47
about here. So we've got the arches up
2:49
and they're all in place now and they
2:52
look great. We fastened all the fruit to
2:53
them. So yeah, let's have a look and see
2:55
what they look like. So yeah, we've got
2:58
them up. We got those blackberries tied
3:00
up over the top of them and yeah,
3:03
they're looking good. I'm happy with it.
3:05
It's easier to get round now. So I
3:07
fastened as Loganberries as well over
3:09
the top of them. So they're traveling
3:12
all along the top and I can get to my
3:14
strawberries a lot easier now
3:17
that they're all over. We've also tied
3:20
his grape vine up over it. So, the
3:24
grapes will hopefully dangle down
3:28
and yeah, we've got more Loganberries
3:30
growing in this corner here and
3:33
hopefully then we'll get something
3:35
growing over these ones here. But yeah,
3:38
we've taken out the old stakes and the
3:40
wires what they were growing up. But I'm
3:42
happy with how well they've turned out.
3:47
So hopefully the fruit will be a lot
3:49
more secure and a lot easier to handle
3:51
next year on these arches.
3:55
Not a big job, but I'm happy with the
3:58
outcome. It's all turned out pretty well
4:02
in the end. So thanks for watching
4:05
today's video. Make sure you drop us a
4:06
follow to stay up to date with all our
4:08
videos. Until next time everyone.
