This video shares a weekly update from the garden, highlighting what is currently growing, the key jobs being done, and the progress being made. I talk through plant development, routine maintenance, and the small tasks that keep everything moving forward.
I also share observations from the garden and plans for the next steps to keep the growing space productive. A helpful update for gardeners who enjoy following progress and seasonal garden work.

Welcome to our weekly roundup. Welcome
0:03
to Gardening with Ben, everyone. And
0:04
we're doing our weekly roundup of how
0:07
well we've got on this weekend down at
0:10
the aotment. So, we have been so busy,
0:13
absolutely pushing ourselves to the
0:16
limit and getting things ready and
0:18
getting things growing. So, our main
0:20
thing this weekend was to start getting
0:23
in the poly tunnel the raised beds
0:25
ready. As you know, I purchased some
0:27
maze beds recently and I'm making this
0:30
into a better great growing space and
0:32
getting absolutely loads of stuff
0:35
growing in here. Now, the sort of things
0:37
that I've sewn in my raised beds are
0:40
radish, lettuce, pack choy,
0:45
um beetroot,
0:48
spring onions,
0:51
uh
0:53
absolute like loads of stuff. But you'll
0:55
see it all in my poly tunnel update
0:58
video of what we've got sewn. So yeah,
1:01
I'm excited for this and I'm hoping that
1:03
a lot of it will be ready before I start
1:06
planting my tomatoes in here in end of
1:09
May when the plants will be ready to
1:10
plant in the raised beds. That's the
1:12
plan anyway. And then hopefully I'll
1:15
rotate it and we'll put some
1:18
cauliflowers in here and cabbages and
1:20
broccoli and try some brassacas growing
1:23
in here as well because uh obviously
1:25
then it's bit more safer away from the
1:27
butterflies and getting pests on them.
1:30
So we'll try that this year in the poly
1:33
tunnel growing some brassacas in here
1:35
and obviously it'll be great fantastic
1:37
weather for it. We've also planted uh
1:41
some more sweet peas in here as we've
1:44
already got one batch growing. They're
1:45
growing absolutely fantastic in the
1:47
Oakland root trainers. We've also
1:51
planted some peas, some early peas.
1:55
Now, I start my peas off in trays first
1:59
and then I move them outside when
2:01
they're big enough because I have a lot
2:03
of issues with rats and mice and
2:05
squirrels and they'll pinch all the
2:06
seeds and there's not much around for
2:08
them to eat at the moment. So, they'll
2:10
find them and they'll eat them. So,
2:12
that's one thing that I do need to do to
2:14
protect them. I've also obviously been
2:16
looking at my strawberries, what are
2:18
growing in my hanging baskets. Again, I
2:20
got those from Oakland. And I've started
2:23
taking the flowers off. You might wonder
2:25
why I'm taking the flowers off is
2:27
because they're only baby plants. And
2:30
basically, if I take the flowers off for
2:32
the next couple of weeks, then it'll
2:34
concentrate on growing the root ball
2:36
better and the plant better. And
2:39
apparently, it grows more strawberries
2:40
on it if you do that, if you take the
2:43
flowers off in the first couple of
2:44
months. I don't know if that's true or
2:46
not. Fingers crossed it is because I I
2:47
do want the strawberries on them.
2:49
Hopefully, it doesn't stop the
2:50
strawberries from growing on them. So,
2:51
we're going to try that and see how well
2:53
they get on and see if they produce more
2:55
strawberries, doing them that way. So,
2:57
yeah, it's been an awfully long busy
2:59
weekend. We've also planted loads of
3:01
seeds in my shed, flower seeds and
3:03
different vegetables and getting all the
3:05
seeds sewn in there as well. So, it's
3:07
going to be a busy year this year down
3:09
at the plot. A very hectic year. I think
3:11
I need to do this full time. I wish I
3:13
could, but unfortunately, I can't. So,
3:15
we're only spending the weekends down
3:17
here getting it all done. But, we're
3:18
making the most of it. I'm making the
3:20
most of the late nights and the early
3:23
starts in the morning as well. So, lots
3:26
to be done. I'll be posting lots of
3:28
videos for you to watch this week as I
3:30
won't be at the a lot a lot a lot a lot
3:31
a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lotment
3:31
obviously I'll be working but we'll post
3:33
lots of videos for you to watch this
3:35
week. Until next time everyone remember
3:37
keep smiling, keep shining and keep
3:39
gardening with Ben everyone.
