Welcome to this week’s polytunnel update, where I share the latest progress and what’s been happening over the past few days.
Things are really starting to take off, and the polytunnel is coming to life with new growth and developing plants. In this update, you’ll see how everything is progressing and what’s changing week by week as the growing season gets underway.
Polytunnels are perfect for getting ahead, protecting crops, and boosting growth — and this series shows exactly how productive they can be.
Whether you’re growing in a polytunnel or just looking for inspiration, follow along each week to see the journey from planting through to harvest.

Welcome to our weekly poly tunnel update
0:02
where I show you what's growing in here
0:04
and how well it's growing I should say
0:06
and not what's growing because
0:07
everything is growing. It's all doing
0:09
absolutely fantastic and I can't believe
0:12
how much things are shooting up in a
0:14
week at the moment. It's like 30 odd
0:16
degrees in here. It's absolutely
0:17
boiling. I don't know why I'm wearing a
0:19
jumper but it's boiling in here. So
0:21
things are drying out pretty fast. So
0:22
we're having to keep things watered.
0:24
we've set up as irrigation for our
0:26
strawberries, which is uh watering them
0:28
once a day for 15 minutes. So, yeah,
0:31
we've got that on as well. Obviously,
0:32
we're still watering them as well
0:34
because it don't water them fully, but
0:36
it gives them some water to keep them
0:37
alive and keep them moist. So, yeah,
0:40
less of the talking and let's get
0:41
showing you. So, this is a spinach
0:43
what's growing. It's growing absolutely
0:45
fantastic. Look at that. Growing really
0:47
well. As you can see, the peas are
0:48
popping up through the back. So
0:50
hopefully we're going to have 800 peas
0:52
in here because we've got them in all
0:53
the beds at the backs and yeah, it'll be
0:56
an exciting harvest. Fingers crossed.
0:59
We've got us carrots. They're all
1:01
popping through now. Look at them.
1:03
Absolutely loads of carrots. Fingers
1:05
crossed. This is my year for growing
1:07
carrots. First ever year. I've never had
1:09
success with carrots. So fingers crossed
1:11
we get a good crop in here as long as we
1:14
keep them watered. And yeah, we might
1:15
have to thin them out a bit in some
1:17
areas. But yeah, they're growing pretty
1:19
well
1:21
as radish. Wow, this will definitely
1:23
need thinning out some of these. But
1:25
yeah, we've got loads of radish growing.
1:27
Absolutely coming on. Fantastic. The
1:29
piece at the back growing absolutely
1:31
amazing. Fingers crossed for a good
1:34
harvest.
1:35
The spring onions. Look at them all nice
1:38
and in line. Absolutely amazing. We
1:41
obviously use the seed tape which has
1:43
done absolutely fantastic for keeping it
1:45
all nicely in a line but yeah it's
1:48
growing really well. We've got more
1:50
radish that's growing fantastic. That
1:53
was on the seed tape that one. That's
1:55
probably why they look pretty much well
1:58
separated. So yeah, they are pretty good
2:00
them ones.
2:03
We've got his beetroot
2:05
that's all coming up pretty well.
2:07
Absolutely amazing. We'll have to thin
2:09
them out cuz we don't want two growing
2:11
like next to one another. But when they
2:13
get a bit stronger, then we'll thin them
2:15
out to see which ones are the best ones
2:17
growing. We've got a pack choy again.
2:20
That'll need thinning out and the peas
2:22
at the back popping through. But yeah,
2:24
they're coming on pretty well. I've
2:26
never grown pack choy before, so that's
2:27
a new thing for me. I'm excited to see
2:30
how that gets on. We've got lettuce,
2:33
mixed come and come again lettuce where
2:35
you just snip it off and take what you
2:37
need. Uh we'll probably thin some of
2:39
that out, but that don't really matter
2:40
cuz we'll keep snipping it off obviously
2:42
as it's ready. But yeah, that's looking
2:44
great. And then we've got some peas in
2:47
the back of this one. We still need to
2:49
put something in the front of that one.
2:50
So yeah, we've left space there. We've
2:53
also planted five hostas. We've got two
2:55
in one of them. Um and then one in each
2:58
other. I ran out of plant pots, so I
2:59
need to go and get another plant pot.
3:01
And then obviously we need to water
3:03
them. I'll be watering after I've done
3:04
this video. But yeah, we're going to
3:06
leave them in here. these bare root
3:07
hostas. So, we're going to leave them in
3:09
here while it's nice and warm, get them
3:11
growing, and then when it's warm enough,
3:13
we'll move them outside when they're a
3:15
bit bigger and a bit more stronger.
3:20
Then in this one, we've got normal
3:22
lettuce, which is just starting to pop
3:24
through. Again, like I said, we're going
3:25
to be watering in a bit, so yeah,
3:27
fingers crossed it all comes out. We've
3:30
also got some iceberg lettuce that'll
3:32
definitely need thinning out because we
3:34
don't need that many in there. But yeah,
3:35
it's all popping through. We've got his
3:38
lavender what we took cutings from.
3:41
Hopefully they start taking root. We'll
3:43
see how they get on. Hopefully lots of
3:45
lavender plants for the a lotment this
3:47
year. Those were my second set of sweet
3:50
peas what we started in the root
3:52
trainers. They're all coming through
3:53
pretty well and pretty healthy.
3:55
Absolutely amazing. Like I said, we're
3:58
going to be watering. So, if you're
4:00
saying, "Why has it dried out?" We're
4:02
going to be watering after we've done
4:03
this video.
4:05
we've got as white strawberries. What we
4:07
got? They're coming on well. They're
4:10
growing well, taking root. Once they're
4:12
strong enough and healthy enough, we'll
4:14
plant them out in our pockets to see how
4:17
well they're growing them. And that were
4:18
the first lot of sweet peas that we've
4:20
got planted, what we pinched out, and
4:22
they're growing really well. We're going
4:24
to plant those in our new pots next
4:26
week, so stay tuned for that. But yeah,
4:30
everything's coming on well. And then
4:31
this is the drip irrigation system.
4:34
what we got in the strawberries. What
4:36
are keeping them all growing well? And
4:39
they're doing absolutely fantastic. I'm
4:41
pleased with how the strawberries are
4:42
coming on in here. These baskets are
4:45
absolutely brilliant.
4:47
Definitely worth the investment,
4:49
everybody.
4:51
So, that is our weekly tour of our poly
4:54
tunnel. As you can see, it's getting
4:55
busy. It's getting cramped in here. And
4:57
things are growing really, really well.
4:59
I'm happy with how things are all coming
5:00
along in the poly tunnel. So, make sure
5:02
you stay tuned. Drop us a follow to stay
5:04
up to date. And for next week's video,
5:06
probably even fuller in here next week
5:08
with how warm it's been. But until next
5:10
time everyone remember keep smiling,
5:12
keep shining and keep gardening with Ben
5:14
everyone.
