Welcome to the new episode of Poly
0:03
Tunnel Diaries. The weekly diary of our
0:06
poly tunnel of how it's progressing and
0:08
how it's getting on. As a lot of you
0:10
know, we have revamped in this poly
0:13
tunnel. It was an absolute mess last
0:15
year and I thought it's about time we
0:18
used it to its full potential. It gets
0:20
warm in here, it gets sunny, it's
0:21
absolutely gorgeous, and I don't use it
0:23
to its full potential. I just grow a few
0:25
tomatoes in pots and yeah, we have good
0:29
crop of tomatoes, but I want to start
0:30
growing all year round in here and make
0:33
full use of how well it's getting on.
0:36
And I want to grow different vegetables
0:38
in here like radish, lettucees, spring
0:42
uh everything really, anything and
0:45
everything. And altogether, we've got 15
0:48
new beds in here. So, we've got a lot of
0:50
extra space for growing. So let's have a
0:53
look at how things are getting on and
0:55
it's exciting. It's coming along.
0:58
So we have started filling all the beds
1:00
up with compost now. So next weekend we
1:03
are going to start sewing in these. I'm
1:05
excited for this. We're going to sew
1:06
radish, beetroot, lettuce, spring onions
1:09
in here next week. And we'll see what
1:11
else we can sew in here as well. And
1:14
things coming up. We've got some spare
1:15
strawberries left over what I need to
1:17
use. But yeah, we're not filling them
1:19
right up to the top because there's no
1:20
need. There's no need to fill them right
1:22
up to the top. The only one that I'm
1:24
going to fill up to the top will be the
1:25
one that have carrots in so that it's
1:27
got deep roots and hopefully some nice
1:29
long carrots. But yeah, that's deep
1:31
enough for our tomato plants and
1:34
everything else like that. It should be
1:36
pretty good. Obviously, it'll sink down
1:38
quite a bit when it's watered and once
1:40
it's all settled in, but we'll top them
1:42
up again next year with more compost.
1:44
And obviously it'll need fresh nutrients
1:46
in it year on year. So yeah, the beds
1:49
are going to be amazing. I'm excited for
1:51
this year so much. Uh I think I'm going
1:54
to need an a few extra days off a week
1:56
just to keep on top of this poly tunnel.
1:58
But yeah, let's have a look inside what
2:00
we've been doing in our mini green
2:02
houses. We've got us potatoes chitting.
2:04
They're chitting away. They'll be
2:06
planted on Good Friday. We've got us
2:09
lavender, what we planted the other day
2:12
to see if we could get some cutings
2:13
from. And hopefully from that, we've got
2:16
some spring uh sweet peas in there. I
2:19
can't really see cuz uh Oh, wait up.
2:23
Look at this everyone. The sweet peas
2:25
are growing in the root trainers what we
2:26
got from Oakland. Absolutely amazed. I
2:30
love my sweet peas. Yes. Fantastic.
2:34
So happy they're starting to germinate.
2:35
This is going to be amazing.
2:38
And the lavender's growing well.
2:39
Absolutely amazing. Smells gorgeous in
2:42
there. Yeah. Yeah. Let's get that cover
2:44
back on and keep things warmed up. I'm
2:47
so happy those sweet peas are
2:53
Obviously being in this mini greenhouse.
2:55
It's inside a poly tunnel and inside
2:57
there and inside a clock. So, it keeps
3:00
them extra warm and toasty.
3:03
Then down here, we've got his onions
3:05
what we planted. Some of them are
3:07
starting to sprout as you can see. So
3:11
that's to give them a head start before
3:12
planting them out at end of March time
3:15
and just get some roots and get some
3:17
shoots on them and get them going.
3:21
So as you can see, I get excited over
3:23
everything over every little thing
3:24
that's germinated. I can't believe
3:26
they're starting to germinate those
3:27
sweet peas. We're going to be starting
3:29
some more sweet peas off next week.
3:30
We've got a load more seeds. So yeah,
3:32
it's going to be a busy weekend next
3:34
weekend down at the plot. So, I hope
3:36
you've enjoyed that. Make sure you drop
3:38
us a follow to stay up to date with our
3:40
poly tunnel episodes. As I say, it's
3:43
going to be changing every single week
3:44
in here at the moment. It's going to be
3:46
a busy week. We're planting in the bed
3:48
beds next week as well. So, next week
3:51
hopefully we can show you that down at
3:52
the plot as well. So until next time
3:54
everyone remember keep smiling, keep
3:56
shining and keep gardening with Ben
