0:25
everyone and welcome back to gardening
0:27
with Ben well I can't believe it's been
0:30
5 days since I last published a podcast
0:33
but yep it has I know I said I'd keep
0:35
them going while I was working but I
0:38
didn't have time to record them after
0:39
I've done 12 hours at work I feel like
0:42
I've had enough and I want to relax and
0:45
chill out so hence why there weren't no
0:47
podcasts over the weekend but we are
0:50
back for the next 4 days bringing you
0:52
podcasts every single day at least so
0:55
make sure you tune in for those podcasts
0:58
make sure you click that subscribe
0:59
button if if you've not already clicked
1:01
it and yeah welcome if you're new
1:04
because there's a lot of new people
1:06
subscribing to the channel so thank you
1:08
for all the new people that have joined
1:09
us and thanks to the people that sent me
1:12
messages because I've been receiving
1:14
some messages this week of people that
1:17
have been doing stuff what I've been
1:19
sharing like planting blueberries
1:22
getting formless black Brees and even
1:26
somebody's sent me a photo of their shed
1:29
that there was building uh getting
1:31
inspiration from building their own
1:33
Greenhouse rather than purchasing one
1:36
but yeah uh keep sharing those photos
1:38
with me of what you're getting up to and
1:41
if you if I do inspire you yeah
1:43
definitely share them with me so we've
1:46
been back down at the allotments today
1:49
for the first time in 5 days and it was
1:52
a horrible day today absolutely chuing
1:55
it down this morning and then beautiful
1:57
this afternoon I think winter is is
2:00
finally arriving upon us but as I always
2:04
say if it's raining there's always work
2:07
to be done in the shed and poly tunnel
2:09
and that is the reason why I've got a
2:10
shed and a poly tunnel so I can keep on
2:12
going down to the allotments and getting
2:15
work done while I'm down there and it
2:18
was great to see as well because the
2:19
council was on the site relaying all the
2:22
roads as well so they were down busy
2:25
hard at work in the rain out while I was
2:27
in my shed with my nice cup of coffee
2:31
but yeah I've been in my shed today I've
2:33
been doing some clearing up tidying up
2:36
and getting stuff done but I have also
2:41
been planting some more spring bulbs yes
2:44
you may think well it's a bit too late
2:46
to be planting spring bulbs but as I was
2:49
clearing around in my shed I found a
2:51
bucket full of spring bulbs what had all
2:54
started sprouting so they needed to go
2:56
in the ground so we've managed to get
2:58
them in the ground whether they come
2:59
come to anything this year who knows but
3:02
they're all growing so they've all gone
3:04
in the ground and hopefully we'll get
3:06
lots of Blooms from them uh because this
3:08
is an area where I didn't have any bulbs
3:12
so hopefully it will look absolutely
3:14
stunning so we'll have to keep our
3:16
fingers crossed and see how we get on
3:19
but yeah all the spring bulbs are
3:21
starting to pop up in the plot now it's
3:23
amazing to see how far they're coming on
3:26
now and how fast they're progressing
3:29
there's not as many many as I hoped
3:30
because I felt like I planted a load
3:33
more uh but we'll see we'll see they
3:35
might come up it might just be taking
3:38
them a little while but like they say it
3:40
needs cold to wake the bulbs up to make
3:43
shock them to think yes spring is on its
3:46
way we best start waking up and start
3:49
flourishing and start growing so yeah uh
3:52
hopefully we will see the bulbs and this
3:56
week you need to Batton down the hatches
3:59
because we're getting two storms here in
4:01
the UK this week I think it's going to
4:03
be Wednesday and Friday they're saying
4:06
the Friday storm could lead to snow so
4:10
make sure you've got everything
4:11
protected make sure your green houses
4:14
are fastened down well because I've seen
4:16
so many pictures of people's green
4:18
houses and poly tunels getting blown
4:20
over and Blown Away in this wind and
4:24
it's to be expected in Winter all the
4:25
wind and the rain and the horrible
4:28
weather so make sure it is fastened down
4:32
and if it's one of these green plastic
4:34
poly tunnels take off the cover so that
4:38
you protect it and then just slip it
4:39
back on after the wind's gone at least
4:43
the wind will blow through the poly
4:44
tunnel then and you won't lose the cover
4:48
on them um I I it just goes through me
4:51
when I see people's stuff getting
4:53
destroyed by the wind it really does uh
4:55
all that hard work and effort gone uh
4:59
and the ensive as well so make sure
5:02
everything is fastened down for these
5:03
storms on Wednesday and Friday everybody
5:06
I only had to do a bit a few repairs
5:08
after the last storm not much whatsoever
5:12
thankfully touchwood I never seemed to
5:14
get much storm damage on my plot but we
5:17
never know it might blow my shed down
5:19
this time hopefully not we'll have to
5:22
see but yeah while I was down on the
5:25
plot today I having a look at my herbs
5:27
what I planted quite a bit back now
5:30
uh in my Greenhouse obviously it's
5:32
unheated uh because I'm not down there
5:35
every day it's not heated whatsoever uh
5:38
I've just planted some seeds and put
5:40
some cing film over them and my
5:42
coriander's starting to pop F today so I
5:44
shared a picture of that on Instagram uh
5:46
so if you're not following me on
5:47
Instagram check it out gardening with
5:49
Ben and you'll be able to see my
5:51
coriander seeds
5:52
growing but I'm hoping that we do get
5:55
some decent days cuz I need to get some
5:56
work done outside I need to get the rest
5:58
of my plot cleared and done I'm hoping
6:02
to get it done by the end of February
6:04
and that's 15 days away now so hopefully
6:10
we can get that work done and get it
6:11
sorted because come March I'm going to
6:14
be planting loads and loads of seats uh
6:16
absolutely Lads I hold off from planting
6:18
mainly most of my seeds until March uh
6:22
so yeah I'm going to be cracking on in
6:24
March time as the weather starts to turn
6:27
hopefully nicer and warmer and if you
6:30
remember to the first lockdown which was
6:31
two years ago uh it was
6:35
a red hot March it was absolutely
6:39
boiling it was a heatwave it was like
6:42
the hottest march on
6:44
record so anything could happen in that
6:47
month of March and April so yeah
6:49
hopefully we'll get some nice weather
6:51
and we can get those seeds germinated
6:53
but like I always say a lot of them can
6:55
catch up and can start growing a bit
6:57
later so don't Bank sewing all your
7:00
seeds in January February time hold off
7:03
and get them sewn when it is a bit
7:05
warmer and they'll definitely germinate
7:07
but we're going to keep cracking on
7:09
we've got three more days down at the
7:11
plot so hopefully we can get a lot more
7:14
done a lot more cleared it's starting to
7:16
look like an allotment again it's not
7:18
just looking like a general tip uh which
7:21
it has been looking over winter the
7:23
exciting part gets to when I start
7:25
painting it all and start freshening up
7:27
all the beds then it starts start to
7:29
look a bit more nicer and posher and
7:32
inviting as well just hopefully get all
7:35
that done before the spring bulbs come
7:37
and then it'll look nice and perfect
7:41
really ready for sewing out all the
7:43
plants later in May time and June time
7:48
but yeah we're cracking on pretty well
7:51
and it's good to see that um
7:53
everything's coming along pretty well uh
7:56
definitely this year because obviously
7:59
last year I never got much time down at
8:01
the plot so I hardly got much done but
8:03
I'm already getting excited now about
8:05
all the things that I'm going to be
8:06
growing in my poly tunnel it's going to
8:08
be absolutely jam-packed full and it's
8:11
going to take time watering again uh
8:14
that is one job that I definitely don't
8:16
like doing I don't like watering
8:18
whatsoever um it's just one job that
8:20
seems to take forever and it's
8:23
absolutely
8:24
boring but yeah uh last time I grew in
8:28
my Greenhouse set up an irrigation kit
8:31
and I had it connected on to water Bots
8:35
and they held water for about 3 or 4
8:40
days and they just constantly sent a
8:43
little drip every so often into the
8:45
tomatoes and every cucumbers and
8:47
everything and they just kept them
8:49
watered and kept them going and they did
8:52
fantastic it was amazing and yeah I did
8:55
share the video on YouTube at the time
8:57
of how I made it all and hopefully we
9:00
can get that back up and running again
9:02
but it does take a while to get it all
9:03
set up and get it all working in
9:06
Partnership together but yeah um I'm I'm
9:09
looking forward to this year it's going
9:11
to be a good year down on the allotment
9:13
I can feel it already from what I've
9:14
done down at the plot and what I've been
9:17
sharing on my Instagram with you all of
9:20
how I'm getting on it's going to look
9:22
absolutely phenomenal down on the plot
9:24
this year with the amount of stuff what
9:26
I'm going to have growing so I look
9:28
forward to sharing it all with you all
