Let's finish off our easy fill hanging
0:02
baskets. Welcome to Gardening with Ben.
0:04
And today we're going to be finishing
0:06
off our easy fill baskets. Now, I had a
0:08
lot of comments on my post what I posted
0:10
about potting them all up saying, "Why
0:13
haven't you put any in the top?" Well,
0:14
basically, I ran out of time. It took
0:17
that long to fill 15 hanging baskets
0:20
that I ran out of time to get them in.
0:22
So, we've got about 60 strawberry plants
0:24
left and that'll be more than enough to
0:26
put them in the top. and possibly any
0:28
leftover I'll put out in my actual
0:30
strawberry bed outside. And you're
0:32
probably thinking, why have you got
0:34
strawberries inside when you've got them
0:35
outside? Well, the ones outside get
0:38
eaten by wood lice. I often find wood
0:41
lice hiding inside holes in them. Slugs
0:43
get them, birds get them, the squivel
0:45
pinches them. So, yeah, having them in
0:48
the hanging baskets will keep them off
0:50
the ground and stop any pests from
0:52
getting them. And obviously the only
0:55
issue is that they'll dry out faster
0:57
being in the poly tunnel. So I'm going
0:58
to be setting up an irrigation system in
1:00
the coming weeks to keep a drip feed of
1:03
them. But at the moment you only need to
1:05
water them about once a week because
1:07
they won't dry out fast and you don't
1:09
want root rot which can you often get
1:12
with strawberry plants. So we don't want
1:14
to overwater them. And as it starts to
1:16
get warmer then we'll water them twice a
1:18
week. And obviously when it starts to
1:20
get hot, we'll water them once a day
1:22
with the drip feeder. And the best thing
1:24
about the drip feeder is that you can
1:26
time it to when to water as well. So you
1:28
can time it to water every day or every
1:32
few days. So that's the plan. And it'll
1:34
save me coming down to the plot every
1:36
day to water them in the poly tunnel. So
1:38
yeah, let's have a look at what they
1:40
look like and what we're doing today.
1:42
So these are the hanging baskets all
1:45
hanging well from the crossbar on the
1:47
poly tunnel. Looking absolutely amazing.
1:50
So yeah, we're possibly going to put
1:52
four in each one at the top. And we're
1:55
going to put some food on top as well.
1:57
We're going to feed them all first and
1:58
then we're going to put four in each one
2:01
and then we'll give them a good water
2:02
for this week. So we watered them last
2:04
week so they're ready for a drink this
2:05
week. So yeah, let's get the
2:08
strawberries and let's get them planted.
2:10
These are the strawberry plants. I put
2:12
them in some soil to keep them damp and
2:14
to keep them alive until this week. So
2:16
yeah, let's get them out and let's get
2:21
So this is what I'm feeding them with.
2:22
Boost Westland. We put some in the tops
2:25
of each one. This will feed them for the
2:27
bit and hopefully build the roots up to
2:30
make them stronger. And then once they
2:32
start flowering, we'll feed them with
2:34
tomato feed as well. So yeah, let's get
2:38
the plants in the top of them.
2:41
So there we are. We've put all the
2:43
strawberries in the top. We've put only
2:44
three in the top cuz four might be too
2:46
many as obviously they'll bush out once
2:49
they get growing. And yeah, we've given
2:51
them a good water, a good drink, and
2:53
we'll water them all again next week. So
2:56
yeah, I'm looking forward to these easy
2:58
fill hanging baskets. They're going to
2:59
be absolutely amazing. Fingers crossed
3:01
they all take all the strawberry plants
3:03
and if so we'll be absolutely inundated
3:06
with strawberries this year down at the
3:10
So make sure you drop us a follow to
3:12
stay up to date with all our videos and
3:14
how well the strawberries grow this year
3:16
down at the poly tunnel in the easy
3:18
hanging baskets. So until next time
3:20
everyone remember keep smiling, keep
3:22
shining and keep gardening with bed
