Welcome to our strawberry hanging basket
0:02
weekly update. Welcome to Gardening with
0:04
Ben, everybody. And today we're going to
0:06
give you our weekly update on how well
0:08
they're actually doing. And as you can
0:09
see, they're looking absolutely amazing.
0:12
So, let's turn the camera and let's have
0:14
a good look at them and see how well
0:19
So, these are planted in the Oakland
0:21
hanging baskets and these have like 12
0:24
to 15 holes in the side. So, we've got
0:27
them in every single hole. We probably
0:28
got too many in, but oh well, we'll have
0:30
to keep them well watered because it'll
0:32
get absolutely boiling in here in
0:34
summer. It was 30° in the poly tunnel
0:36
yesterday and we're still only in March.
0:38
And yeah, they taking really well. Every
0:40
plant literally has nearly taken.
0:42
There's been a couple that have uh not
0:44
doing well, but we keep taking the
0:46
flowers off at the moment because we
0:48
need them to take root and yeah, we need
0:50
to take the flowers off for a couple of
0:53
weeks while they get bigger. And these
0:56
are everlasting strawberries. So,
0:58
they'll keep fruiting all summer. So,
1:00
yeah, we're going to take the flowers
1:02
off for the first couple of months
1:04
because it's not time for them to grow
1:06
yet. Flowers in my area. I'm up
1:08
Yorkshire. So, we're going to keep
1:10
taking them off and encourage them to
1:13
get bigger and hopefully with taking the
1:16
flowers off, you get more fruit on them
1:20
all together. So, that is what we're
1:22
planning on doing. And I'm so happy with
1:25
how they all grow. We've got food in the
1:26
top. It's uh wland boost. So that'll
1:29
feed them. When we get to the flowering
1:31
stage, that's when we'll start feeding
1:33
them tomato feed, which will get them
1:35
better and hopefully bigger and juicier
1:38
fruit. And tomato feed you can use on
1:41
most fruit and vegetables. To be honest,
1:43
it's a great feed all together spider.
1:45
But yeah, they're coming on really well.
1:49
We're hoping for massive harvest this
1:50
year down at the plot. I'm just checking
1:52
them all for flowers as I'm walking down
1:54
showing you all. But yeah, look at that
1:56
one. It's got a flower on it already.
1:59
We'll keep taking them off.
2:04
It's only what I've read up on about
2:05
taking flowers off. It's not something
2:07
that I actually know. I've never
2:08
actually taken flowers off the
2:10
strawberries. But because these are baby
2:11
ones, baby plants, brand new ones,
2:14
that's what we're doing. We're taking
2:15
the flowers off. So, I've learned
2:18
something myself with regards to that.
2:20
That's not something that I knew before.
2:22
Like I said, we've got a couple of dead
2:24
ones, but we're going to replace those.
2:25
We've got some spare ones to plant in.
2:27
But overall, we've only had about four
2:30
that haven't taken. Everyone seem to
2:33
have taken really well. Like I purchased
2:36
300 strawberries altogether. Absolutely
2:38
loads. But yeah, they're coming on
2:41
absolutely amazing. So, we'll have to
2:44
see what sort of harvest we get down
2:46
here this year. I'm hoping to set up an
2:48
irrigation system when it starts to get
2:49
warmer because I'm only having to water
2:53
four days, but when it starts to get
2:56
warmer, obviously they'll need a lot of
2:58
water every day as the roots will take
3:00
up a lot of the hanging basket,
3:02
especially with 15 plants in them. So,
3:04
we're going to set up an irrigation
3:06
system which will be solar powered and
3:08
it'll feed into the water but as well.
3:10
So, yeah, that is what we're planning on
3:15
So, I hope you've enjoyed our weekly
3:17
update on our strawberry hanging
3:19
baskets. We've popped the link in the
3:21
bottom so that if anybody's wanting any,
3:24
go and check them out. Until next time
3:25
everyone, remember, keep smiling, keep
3:27
shining, and keep gardening with Ben,
