This video explains how to pot up pepper plants correctly to encourage strong root development and healthier growth.
It covers choosing the right pot size, compost, watering and handling seedlings safely. Repotting at the right stage helps prevent stunted growth and improves harvest potential.
Suitable for greenhouse, indoor and container-grown pepper plants.
Suitable for UK and international gardeners in temperate climates.

hey everyone and welcome back to

Gardening with Ben in today's video
0:05
we're going to be planting our pepper
0:06
plants we started these off from seed
0:09
back in January and we wanted to start
0:13
them early because last year they were
0:15
only just fruiting towards the end of
0:17
the year so we didn't get any good
0:19
peppers last year so we started them
0:21
nice and early to get them well
0:22
established and hopefully get some
0:24
peppers on them this year and fingers
0:28
crossed it's going to be a nice warm
0:30
year we started off with a hot year this
0:33
year of 2025 it's been absolutely
0:36
gorgeous we've been having heat waves
0:37
we're going to have another heat wave
0:38
this week so we're going to get these
0:41
potted up into bigger pots so that they
0:43
can get the roots established and get
0:45
growing bigger we're going to plant
0:47
these in flower buckets a bit like the
0:49
ones that I use on my tomatoes we get
0:52
these from Morrison's we've got these
0:54
years ago used to be able to buy them
0:56
but I think they actually send a lot of
0:57
them back now but I did manage to get
0:59
some the other day as well so we've got
1:02
plenty of those just remember to drill a
1:04
hole in the bottom of them though
1:06
because you need to have drainage in
1:08
them so we're going to get these potted
1:10
up get them filled with compost these
1:12
pots and get them planted and we're
1:14
going to add a bit of food in there as
1:16
well to get them started get them
1:18
kickarted and get them growing because
1:20
compost doesn't have much nutrition in
1:22
them these days and we need all the
1:25
nutrition we can get to get good
1:26
established plants growing also remember
1:30
when they start to flower to start
1:33
giving them tomato feed once a week so
1:35
that it feeds them throughout their
1:37
fruitting stage and it'll give them that
1:40
nutrition that they need to get great
1:42
peppers on them so let's see if we can
1:45
grow some peppers this year so these my
1:49
peppers that I've got going some of them
1:50
have been nibbled away the little pesky
1:53
slugs but yeah we've got some decent
1:55
ones growing so we need to get these
1:57
potted up and put into some bigger pots
2:00
in
2:01
compost so we filled those pots up with
2:03
compost so what we're going to do is
2:06
make a hole like we did with tomatoes
2:08
put some feed in and then put the pepper
2:11
plant on top so that it gets down to the
2:14
roots and feeds the roots when they get
2:16
watered
2:17
so we've added us holes so what we're
2:19
going to do is we're going to add some
2:23
fish and bloodbone into the holes and
2:25
then plant the plant on top of them so
2:28
we've added the food into the holes so
2:31
it's a case of putting the peppers on
2:32
top of it
2:34
now so we've planted all those peppers
2:38
into the pots so next up we're just
2:40
going to put some more feed around the
2:42
top of them so that it soaks in as we
2:44
water them and yeah then we've just got
2:46
to get them in position and give them a
2:48
watering they don't need much of a
2:49
watering because they were absolutely
2:51
damp already i'd already watered them
2:54
this morning so we'll just give them a
2:56
quick rinse
2:58
over so there we are i've given them all
3:00
a good feed so fingers crossed after a
3:03
good watering then they'll perk up
3:06
hopefully get established get the roots
3:08
set and get growing some peppers this
3:11
year that's what we want we want some
3:13
peppers
3:15
so I hope you've enjoyed that video i
3:16
hope you've learned something from this
3:19
video today and make sure you give us a
3:21
follow so you can stay up to date with
3:23
how well the peppers grow and see if
3:25
they produce anything here's to a hot
3:28
summer i'm only
3:30
hoping but yeah if it's hot we'll have
3:33
to end up watering more which is always
3:35
a downside so let's get them in position
3:38
get them sorted and stay tuned for the
3:41
next video until next time everyone
3:43
remember keep smiling keep shining and
3:46
keep gardening with bed everyone
