Growing fox glove from seed for a
0:02
beautiful cottage garden. Welcome to
0:06
gardening with Ben. And today we are
0:09
going to be potting up our fox gloves.
0:12
Now in one of my previous videos I've
0:14
shown you how to grow them from seed as
0:17
fox gloves are bianial flowers which
0:20
means they don't flower this year but
0:22
they'll flower next year. And we usually
0:24
start these off around October time. So,
0:27
if you're wanting to grow some fox
0:29
gloves from seed, now is the perfect
0:31
time to be getting them started. Now, we
0:34
planted ours a couple of weeks back and
0:37
they are coming on absolutely fantastic.
0:40
Now, I started these off in a seed tray,
0:42
just sprinkled some seeds in, hoped for
0:45
the best, and kept them in my poly
0:47
tunnel where it's a bit warmer and a lot
0:49
of them have germinated and now they're
0:51
getting too big for the seed tray. So,
0:53
we need to pot them up into individual
0:55
pots to keep them growing. And then
0:57
we'll plant them out come next year. And
1:02
we're going to plant these in our new
1:03
area that we have designed this year,
1:06
which is partly shaded, but it'll look
1:09
nice in the woodland area that we are
1:12
hoping to create for next year. So,
1:14
let's have a look at what they're
1:16
growing like, and let's see what we're
1:19
So, these are my fox gloves. As you can
1:21
see, there's a lot of wheat in there in
1:22
that compost as well. But we have got
1:25
some growing. And yeah, we need to get
1:28
these out cuz they're struggling for cuz
1:30
they're getting too big now. So, we need
1:32
to get them out into individual pots,
1:34
get them in some compost,
1:36
get them watered, and get them potted
1:39
up. So, hopefully we'll get quite a few
1:42
fox gloves plants from them. And the fox
1:45
gloves, bees absolutely love them. So,
1:47
if you're wanting to attract the
1:48
pollinators to your garden, fox gloves
1:51
are a great addition to them, and
1:53
they'll add beautiful color with massive
1:56
trumpets on them for the bees to go in
1:58
and get the pollen from. So, yeah, let's
2:00
get these out of the seed tray into some
2:04
pots and get them looking healthier. So,
2:07
we have got all our fox gloves planted.
2:10
So, let's have a look and see what
2:12
they're looking like. So, as you can
2:14
see, we've got lots of plants from that
2:17
seed tray. I don't think I planted any
2:19
of the weeds. Hopefully not.
2:22
But yeah, we've got loads of fox glove
2:24
plants. And the thing is with fox gloves
2:26
as well is that they're expensive to buy
2:28
when you buy them from the garden
2:29
centers or the shops as they are great
2:33
plants to have in the garden. That's why
2:35
they're usually quite expensive, but
2:36
they're so easy to grow from seed. So,
2:39
make sure you do get a packet of fox
2:41
glove seeds, sew them in a seed tray,
2:43
and then once they're big enough, pot
2:45
them on like I've done, keep them in
2:47
your greenhouse or in your shed, keep
2:50
them warm, and then plant them out next
2:53
year. So, we need to give these a good
2:55
water, put them in position, and keep
2:57
them growing throughout the winter
2:59
period. Obviously, it'll get cold in the
3:01
poly tunnel, but hopefully they'll be
3:03
all right and they'll stay alive. And
3:05
then we'll plant them out next year in
3:08
our new cottage garden area, which
3:11
fingers crossed will have lots of color
3:13
and hopefully attract lots and lots of
3:16
bees and wildlife next year. So, I'm
3:18
looking forward to seeing these in full
3:24
So, I hope you've enjoyed that video of
3:26
us potting up our fox gloves. We'll be
3:29
putting these somewhere nice and warm in
3:31
here and dry and keeping them well
3:33
watered throughout the winter period,
3:34
keeping them alive and keeping them
3:37
growing. And then next year, we'll be
3:38
planting them out in our new area. So,
3:42
make sure you do drop us a follow to
3:44
stay up to date with all our videos and
3:46
to see us potting them out next year
3:48
down on the plot. Until next time,
3:51
everyone, remember, keep smiling, keep
3:53
shining, and keep gardening. My bed
