This video explains how to grow potatoes for a late season harvest and the simple steps that help them develop well. I cover planting depth, spacing, watering, feeding, and protection methods that support healthy tuber formation. It is helpful for gardeners wanting reliable results and a better understanding of successful potato growing techniques.

Christmas is coming and it's time to
0:02
plant your Christmas potatoes,
0:04
everybody. If you wanting potatoes for
0:06
Christmas, now is the ideal time to
0:09
plant it. Now, most garden centers
0:13
didn't used to sell them, but they're
0:14
getting into it now. More places are
0:17
advertising Christmas potatoes. It's
0:19
starting to get more trendier and lots
0:21
of people are doing them. Now, I tend to
0:24
grow the Christmas potatoes indoors in
0:26
my poly tunnel as the cold frost will
0:30
kill the plants if we get a heavy one.
0:32
Some people do if you're down south,
0:34
it's a bit warmer, but up north, I can't
0:36
risk it. So, we plant them in boxes with
0:40
drainage holes in the bottom. Obviously,
0:42
it costs a lot for the compost, but the
0:44
results of the potatoes are fantastic,
0:46
and I get a great crop. I did it last
0:48
year. It was amazing the crops that we
0:50
got, and I harvested them around
0:52
December time. So, it was absolutely
0:55
amazing. So, I went online and I bought
0:58
3 kg of three varieties of potatoes. I
1:02
didn't realize how many I'd ordered. Too
1:04
many for me. But, we've got three
1:06
varieties. We've got a kilogram of each.
1:08
I'll probably use only about six
1:09
potatoes from each one. There's about 25
1:11
potatoes in each bag. But the varieties
1:14
that I have got are,
1:18
let me find it.
1:21
Pentulant Javelin. So, as you can see,
1:24
there's absolutely loads in the bag.
1:27
I'm going to be sharing these with other
1:28
people.
1:31
Then we have got
1:35
Aaron
1:36
Pilot.
1:39
So, these are great varieties. They're
1:41
all seed potatoes that I purchased. Like
1:42
I said, they didn't used to do seed
1:44
potatoes at this time of year, but more
1:46
and more places are doing them. Even
1:48
garden centers now. You can go to the
1:50
garden center and buy your potatoes uh
1:53
sewing for Christmas. And then the last
1:55
one, Maris Piper. Like I said, three
1:58
great varieties. You can obviously chip
2:01
them if you want to, but I will be
2:03
planting them straight away and getting
2:05
them in so that I get a harvest in
2:07
December. I'm going to be planting them
2:09
in big massive boxes filled with
2:13
compost. I'll probably plant about six
2:15
in each box. Obviously, we're growing
2:18
them indoors. You'll need to keep them
2:19
well watered and should be all right
2:23
around winter time. Uh they won't dry
2:25
out as fast, but you'll need to keep
2:27
them well watered in August and
2:29
September. Obviously, what you could
2:32
always do is have the boxes outside and
2:36
grow them outside and then when it gets
2:38
to October time, bring them inside into
2:40
your greenhouse or poly tunnel and keep
2:43
them warm in there and that will keep
2:46
them alive. So obviously then they'll
2:48
get rain water if you grow them in the
2:50
boxes outside for the time being. So let
2:53
me know if you're going to be growing
2:55
Christmas potatoes. It's worth the
2:57
effort. It's worth the try and it's
2:59
great to
3:01
get crops in December because there's
3:03
not much else growing at that time.
3:05
You're not harvesting much at all. So
3:08
let me know. Drop me a comment. Feel
3:10
free to share this to other people to
3:11
encourage other people to grow Christmas
3:13
potatoes. Share it to a lotment groups
3:15
and etc.
3:17
And feel free to like it and give it a
3:19
comment. Until next time everyone,
3:21
remember, keep smiling, keep shining,
3:24
and keep gardening. We better everyone.
3:25
We'll see you all later.
