1:13
making your morning Brew wherever you
1:16
want to listen to it but we're starting
1:18
to get these episodes out pretty regular
1:20
now and yeah we've got quite a lot to
1:22
talk about at the moment because
1:24
obviously it's the big time of the year
1:26
at the moment it's quite big in the
1:29
garden so things are happening there's
1:32
lots of jobs that need doing so there's
1:34
lots to talk about here on the podcast
1:36
and thank you for the new people that
1:38
are listening and thank you for those
1:41
who return and keep listening episode
1:44
after episode I do get a lot of feedback
1:46
from you all which is fantastic it's
1:48
always good to hear from people that do
1:50
listen to the podcast so today what are
1:53
we going to be talking about we're going
1:55
to be talking about harvesting it's
1:57
getting to that time of year when we're
1:59
starting to Harvest our produce things
2:02
are coming along things are getting
2:04
ready and it's time to start picking all
2:07
that
2:08
produce and one thing I notice is that
2:12
everything seems to come at the same
2:14
time uh once like a few strawberries
2:17
start ripening then they'll all start
2:19
coming same goes for raspberries the
2:21
lettuce they're all ready at the same
2:23
time and then they all go to seed at the
2:25
same time if you don't pick them fast
2:26
enough so you don't learn by the things
2:30
you do sometimes they say you shouldn't
2:31
plant things all at once you should
2:33
plant them like a few weeks at a time
2:35
separate so that they're all ready at
2:37
separate times but you don't listen dear
2:39
everybody just plants them all at the
2:41
same time and then everything seems to
2:42
be ready at the same time well obviously
2:46
things are starting to get to the to the
2:48
time of harvesting you should be
2:51
harvesting your luses lettuce is
2:55
starting to get ready potatoes the first
2:58
lot of potatoes will be starting to get
3:00
ready peas peas will be starting too I
3:04
noticed some of my dads they were nearly
3:06
ready for picking so he best watch out I
3:08
might be pinching them soon but yeah P
3:12
are ready obviously your
3:14
strawberries
3:16
your radishes radishes should be ready
3:20
and yeah everything will start to come
3:23
ready and obviously as yes harvesting
3:26
these things as well as like spring
3:27
onion as well is repl in them replacing
3:30
them with new stuff because just think
3:34
like you may have had these in the
3:36
ground for two to three months to get
3:39
growing well obviously things will grow
3:42
a lot faster fingers crossed when the
3:43
weather does warm up uh things should
3:46
grow a lot faster and some of the
3:47
vegetables are pretty fast growing like
3:50
your lettuce your
3:52
radishes um the spring onions things do
3:56
grow pretty fast some things so as
3:58
you're harvesting these produce you need
4:01
to be replacing them and getting more
4:03
stuff back in the ground because if you
4:05
think about if you plant these stuff now
4:07
they should be red A from September so
4:11
you'll be able to get another Harvest of
4:12
crops before the year's out because you
4:15
once it gets to like September you won't
4:17
have chance to plant anything again for
4:19
this year unless it's winter
4:22
vegetables so it's important to keep
4:24
replacing what you're harvesting to get
4:26
the most out of your garden and out of
4:28
your allotment and the best thing is
4:30
around now is that you don't need to
4:32
waste a lot of money on like compost in
4:36
growing them all in seed trays you can
4:38
start a lot of them off in the ground
4:40
outside in the right place that they
4:43
want to be in and obviously if you
4:46
planted them outside they'll need a lot
4:47
more protection because there is slugs
4:49
are out slugs will come and eat them so
4:52
you need to protect them and pigeons and
4:54
birds and stuff like that so you do need
4:56
to protect them when you are planting
4:58
them outside but make the mo most of
5:00
growing stuff outside it's warmer it's
5:03
not cold at night well anyone would
5:06
think it is winter here in England at
5:08
the moment it certainly has felt like it
5:11
where I am will someone please let me
5:13
know when the hot weather is coming we
5:16
need some hot
5:17
weather but yeah keep replacing what
5:21
you're
5:21
growing so I'm going to be harvesting my
5:25
garlic this week I'm going to harvest
5:26
some lettuce this week I'm going to be
5:29
harvesting my strawberies this week and
5:33
what else my loganberries are looking
5:35
ready soon they just need to start ring
5:38
I've got loads and loads of loganberries
5:39
on my Loganberry Bush now my dad gave me
5:42
some cuttings from that a few years ago
5:44
and it's looking absolutely fantastic to
5:48
get cuttings from Loganberry plants all
5:51
you do is put the end of the whip in
5:53
some soil and it'll get some roots on it
5:56
and then once it's got some roots on it
5:59
just snit that end of the whip off and
6:02
there you are you'll have some Runners
6:04
and that's all he did for me and I've
6:06
got some fantastic ones growing and
6:09
loganberries the whips grow for Miles
6:12
like you can grow them all the way down
6:14
the side of a garden or you can grow
6:15
them over an archway it will be
6:18
fantastic so if you're wanting to grow
6:20
some food try grow some loganberries
6:23
they're absolutely delicious we've grown
6:25
them for years loganberries and you can
6:27
make some nice Jam as well with it
6:30
so hopefully we'll be getting some
6:32
loganberries off soon oh and I need to
6:34
look at my Peas My peas are covered up
6:36
to high heaven in netting I have
6:38
protected my peas with fortunes of
6:42
netting the birds will not eat them the
6:45
mice will not eat them the rats will not
6:47
eat them I have protected them with my
6:50
life because I have had issues in the
6:53
past where I've planted peas out and
6:55
they've all been eaten so I'm protecting
6:59
them of my life I'm surprised I'm not
7:01
even sleeping down there while they're
7:02
growing so hopefully we'll be having
7:05
some peas soon and again all the peas
7:08
seem to be ready at the same time and
7:11
once the peas have been
7:13
harvested do not dig the plants up out
7:15
of the garden snip them off so that the
7:18
roots are still in the ground and the
7:21
nitrogen goes back into the soil from
7:23
the pee pea plant that you've grown so
7:27
if you've never tried growing peas
7:28
before remember to snip the plants off
7:30
at the bottom once you've harvested all
7:32
your peas and all the nitrogen and the
7:34
goodness will go back into the soil the
7:36
same goes for runner beans for climbing
7:38
beans snip them off at the bottom and
7:40
the nitrogen goes back into the soil and
7:43
it helps feed it so then you can plant
7:45
some more stuff and we've got a lot of
7:48
stuff that we're going to be planting
7:49
over the next few days we've got a load
7:52
more peas I planted like a lake cropping
7:55
a peas so that we'll get a second batch
7:58
growing uh I've got some more climbing
8:00
beans to plant we've got loads of sweet
8:03
corn plants to plant we've got uh some
8:07
beetroot to plant we've got some lettuce
8:09
to plant we've got some spring onions to
8:10
plant we've got carrots to plant we've
8:12
got so much to plant down at the
8:14
alotment but this is my favorite time of
8:17
the year I absolutely love it and if I
8:19
could spend all my time down at the
8:21
alotment I would do
8:23
and it's just a place where I love to be
8:27
uh I've often said I work shifts uh so
8:29
I'll end up in the flat for four days on
8:32
a time when I won't even go out of the
8:34
house and it's a time when I can just be
8:37
outside enjoy the
8:39
sunshine and relax really so if you get
8:44
if you are harvesting stuff please do
8:46
let me know I'm going to be sharing lots
8:48
and lots of photos again soon of me
8:50
harvesting all my produce I'm sorry but
8:53
I'll warn you in advance as soon as
8:55

9:00
