hey everyone and welcome to Gardening
0:03
with Ben what have we planted in May and
0:07
what are we going to be doing in June
0:09
that is what we're talking about today
0:11
so in May we planted absolutely loads
0:14
and loads of things in May because I
0:18
usually wait until the frost period
0:20
chance is over which is usually about
0:22
middle of May for where I am and then I
0:25
go full steam ahead and get planting
0:27
loads and loads of stuff now I've
0:29
planted some lettuce i planted
0:31
cauliflower broccoli spring onions leak
0:35
corettes butternut squash
0:39
pumpkins lettuce
0:42
um spring onions radish beetroot
0:46
absolutely loads and loads of produce I
0:48
planted this month now June time is
0:51
going to be an even busier month for
0:53
planting because I'll replace any plants
0:56
that haven't taken very well like I've
0:58
lost some lettucees i may have lost some
1:00
broccoli plants but yeah we'll be
1:02
filling in all those gaps and getting
1:04
more stuff growing and obviously with
1:07
growing vegetables you work on
1:09
succession growing so that you keep
1:12
planting stuff on a regular basis so
1:13
that you'll get a produce all the way
1:15
through the summer period i'm just
1:17
looking at where this piece of tape's
1:18
coming from from my poly drum there's
1:20
always jobs to be done down at the a
1:22
lotment so we will be planting more
1:25
beetroot we'll be planting more lettuce
1:27
we'll be planting more spring onions
1:29
more radishes because you can keep
1:31
sewing them on a regular basis because
1:33
then you'll keep getting produce all the
1:35
way through the summer period all the
1:37
way up to October and that is what you
1:39
want in gardening and a lotments is to
1:41
keep getting produce growing all the
1:43
time so that is non-stop produce picking
1:46
which is the best part of having an a
1:48
lotment is picking all your produce so
1:50
we'll be planting all them we're also
1:52
going to be harvesting our garlic in
1:54
June mine's not ready for harvesting yet
1:56
i planted it October time but it should
1:59
be ready to harvest in June time it's
2:01
starting to stop growing now and it's
2:04
starting to wither back a bit so we'll
2:05
be keeping an eye on that for when we're
2:07
going to be harvesting it we've also got
2:09
loads more sweet corn to plant out i'm
2:11
going crazy mad with sweet corn this
2:13
year that is my favorite thing to grow
2:14
down at the a lotment is sweet corn so
2:16
we've got a load more sweet corn to
2:18
plant we planted some last month uh
2:21
which we started from seed and then I
2:24
bought some from the Asda which you'll
2:25
have probably seen uh we planted them
2:27
and then I also started some marov from
2:30
seed a few weeks back and that's getting
2:32
ready for planting out so we need to
2:33
find more space to plant them in we'll
2:36
also be planting out our pumpkins we've
2:38
got some Atlantic giants growing uh I
2:41
possibly sewed them a bit too late
2:43
should have sewn them around March time
2:44
but I sewed them a couple of weeks ago
2:46
but we're going to probably put them
2:47
where the garlic were so digging them
2:50
garlic up will make space for the
2:51
pumpkins to grow we'll need to add some
2:54
food into the ground because the garlic
2:55
might have taken a lot of the food away
2:57
from it so we'll add some nutrition into
2:59
the ground as well and obviously compost
3:01
and keep them watered keep them wellfed
3:04
to get a great produce from them so
3:07
we'll be doing that we'll also be
3:09
planting out a load more sunflowers i've
3:12
got thousands and thousands of
3:13
sunflowers growing so we need to get all
3:15
them out we've got loads of sweet peas
3:17
to get out yes I'm late getting my sweet
3:18
peas out we'll be planting some more
3:21
peas because um we've got peas growing
3:26
we've also got loads to plant out and
3:29
I'm one of these people that if I see a
3:31
gap I will fill it whether it would be
3:33
with spring onions whether it would be
3:36
root anything that'll fill the gaps in
3:38
yes you should leave space for weeding
3:40
but I tend not to i tend to just fill
3:42
everything in with other plants and keep
3:46
it growing so we've got them to do will
3:48
also be concentrating on our tomato
3:51
plants as I set myself a weekly mission
3:54
where every week I will spend 10 minutes
3:57
on them taking off any of the suckers
4:01
tying them up giving them a feed giving
4:03
them a good drink of water and looking
4:05
after them because they do need looking
4:07
after tomato plants if you don't look
4:08
after them they won't give you the
4:10
produce that you need from them so I'll
4:12
be concentrating on that this month so
4:15
hopefully we in June we'll be getting
4:18
lots more done down here at the plot and
4:20
obviously one of the main jobs down at
4:21
the a lotment during June is weeding
4:24
weeding never stops and now that we've
4:26
had a lot of rain down here where I am
4:28
we're going to be doing even more
4:30
weeding because it's going to be growing
4:31
mentally down here and trying to keep on
4:34
top of weeding as well as planting is
4:37
hard work once you've got everything
4:38
planted then you can keep on top of the
4:39
weeding pretty easy but trying to do
4:42
everything at once weeding watering and
4:44
planting it's a hard job hence the
4:47
reason why during the winter months I do
4:50
all my maintenance work any building any
4:52
bed building any tidying up I do
4:55
throughout the winter period so that I
4:56
can concentrate on everything like the
4:58
growing season during that time so yeah
5:01
I'm looking forward to June uh make sure
5:03
you stay tuned for everything that you
5:06
can plant during the June month we'll be
5:08
going through that coming up so make
5:10
sure you drop us a follow until next
5:12
time everyone remember keep smiling keep
5:14
shining and keep gardening with Ben
