This video explains how to grow strawberries successfully in hanging baskets and how to care for plants as they establish.
The guide covers choosing suitable varieties, watering correctly, feeding, positioning for sunlight and encouraging healthy growth. It also explains how to support fruit development and maintain productivity in containers.

Let's give you an update on our hanging
0:02
basket strawberry planters. Yes, welcome
0:04
to Gardening with Ben. And today we're
0:06
going to be showing you how well our
0:08
hanging baskets are growing. Now, these
0:10
have been planted 3 weeks, so they've
0:13
not been in too long. And these are
0:16
obviously indoor, so they are getting a
0:18
lot more warmer temperature than they
0:20
would do outside. So, hence the reason
0:22
why they're looking so good. So, let's
0:25
have a look and let's see how well
0:27
they're growing.
0:28
So these are the hanging baskets. We've
0:30
got 14 of them all hung up. We've still
0:33
got some spare hanging baskets what
0:34
we're going to use for tomato plants
0:36
outside probably. So yeah, these were
0:39
bare root runners which I got. These are
0:42
everbearing strawberries. So they'll
0:44
keep fruiting all the way through
0:46
summer. Fingers crossed. As long as we
0:48
keep taking off the runners. So then
0:50
they'll keep producing the fruit all
0:52
summer long as long as they're watered
0:55
and obviously fed with tomato feed as
0:58
well. Now we've got some uh like little
1:00
capsules on what are feeding them at the
1:02
moment. When they start to get the
1:04
flowers on, that's when we'll start to
1:05
feed them tomato feed. But yeah, as you
1:08
can see, there's lots of new growth
1:11
coming on them from what looked like a
1:13
dead bare root runner, which was a bit
1:17
like one of those. They are now
1:19
producing leaves. And this week is going
1:21
to be pretty warm. It's going to get up
1:23
to 16 degrees outside, so we're possibly
1:26
looking at 20° in the poly tunnel.
1:30
All being well, and then hopefully
1:33
they'll all start springing into life.
1:35
As you can see, they're looking
1:36
absolutely amazing. So pleased with
1:39
them. We've got about 15 plants in each
1:41
one. Got 12 edge and three in the top.
1:44
Probably too many, but we'll see how
1:46
well they get on. We can always take
1:47
some out if we get too many plants on
1:50
next year. So yeah, we're going to water
1:54
these once a week at the moment while
1:56
it's pretty cool because they're staying
1:57
pretty damp and wet. And then when they
2:00
start to get a lot more warmer in here,
2:03
then we'll water them every single day
2:05
or every few days. I've given them a
2:08
good watering today cuz obviously, like
2:10
I said, we're expecting warm
2:11
temperatures this week. So hopefully
2:14
it'll kickstart a lot of them and get
2:15
them growing even better. And next week
2:18
we'll hopefully see a massive increase
2:21
in the foliage on them and they'll look
2:24
pretty good and get growing cuz some of
2:27
them are just waking up as you can see.
2:31
Just starting to get some life on them.
2:33
So yeah, there's still quite a few to
2:35
wake up and get growing. But I'm pretty
2:38
happy with how well they're all growing.
2:40
It's first time I've used these. These
2:41
are from Oakland Gardens and yeah,
2:44
they're great. And we've hung them up on
2:46
hooks on the poly tunnel. So, I was
2:49
pretty wary of whether it would be too
2:51
heavy for it, but it seems to be holding
2:54
up pretty good on the poly tunnel. So,
2:57
yeah, hopefully it doesn't pull it all
2:59
down and hopefully we don't damage the
3:01
poly tunnel, but we'll see. We'll see
3:03
how we get on and hopefully some
3:05
beautiful strawberries. So, stay tuned
3:08
for the next update on the strawberries.
3:11
So, I hope you've enjoyed that video.
3:12
Make sure you do drop us a follow to
3:14
stay up to date with how well our
3:15
strawberries are growing down here at
3:17
the a lotment and see if we do manage to
3:19
get some great strawberries on them this
3:21
year, which I'm excited for. First time
3:23
trying this indoors. And the best thing
3:26
about growing them indoors is that they
3:27
won't get the slugs, they won't get the
3:28
birds eating them, they won't get wood
3:31
crawling along the floor eating them as
3:33
well. So, yeah, fingers crossed for a
3:35
successful harvest in here this
3:37
summertime. So make sure you drop us a
3:39
follow to stay up to date.
