Let's dig this poly tunnel over. Welcome
0:03
to Gardening with Ben. And today's
0:06
mission is to start clearing this poly
0:09
tunnel and getting it dug over. Well,
0:12
we've cleared out most of the rubbish
0:14
and took loads and loads to the tip.
0:16
It's near enough completely empty now.
0:21
But today's job is to start taking up
0:23
the flooring and get it dug over. This
0:25
flooring's been down 16 years and
0:28
there's going to be years worth of
0:30
bindweed under there and there's holes
0:32
under the ground. So, there might be rat
0:35
nests or mice nests. So, I'm not looking
0:37
forward to it. But, I'm going to keep
0:39
you up to date with what it looks like
0:41
and how well we're getting on with it
0:43
and show you the ups, the downs of
0:46
digging this poly tunnel over to get it
0:48
all back level again. So, yeah, let's
0:51
get this flooring up.
0:53
So this is the poly tunnel and as you
0:56
can see we've still got a bit of rubbish
0:57
to take to the tip but not much left
0:59
now. But yeah, we've got to get up all
1:01
this flooring as it's all uneven now
1:04
after 16 years and yeah try and tidy it
1:07
up and get some of the bindweed root out
1:09
down the side so all the bindw weed
1:11
grows pretty well. So we need to get all
1:13
that rooting out and hopefully get it
1:16
all back in shape. But yeah, I'm
1:17
definitely not looking forward to taking
1:19
this flooring up and seeing what's
1:21
underneath it all. But I'll show you
1:23
what's underneath it as we go along. So
1:26
yeah, let's get it up. Oh, I've got the
1:29
first half of the flooring up and it's
1:31
not too bad as I thought it would be. I
1:34
thought the bindweed would be a lot
1:36
worse than what it actually is. Uh it
1:38
looks like the bindweed is just around
1:39
the top of the poly tunnel on the top.
1:43
But yeah, found one little mouse hole or
1:48
rat hole down here.
1:50
little trail
1:52
for this little bl. But yeah, we need to
1:55
get all this bind weed out
1:58
and get it all leveled back out again.
2:01
But we've got this nice little pickaxe
2:05
what we're going to use, which will come
2:07
in very handy for breaking up the soil.
2:10
But we don't want to use that until we
2:11
got the bindweed out because we don't
2:13
want to chop the bindweed into thousands
2:15
of pieces and get more bindweed growing.
2:18
So, we need to get it all dug out
2:20
manually.
2:22
But yeah, let's crack on. Well, that's
2:24
half of the poly tunnel of this first
2:27
half that we've got done. But yeah, it's
2:29
so hard work. Wow, it will like concrete
2:33
some of it. But good job we've got this
2:36
little pickaxe tool to help break it up.
2:39
But obviously we're going to use this
2:40
wolf garden tool afterwards and chop it
2:44
all up and then use this rake to level
2:46
it out a bit to make it a bit better.
2:49
Obviously we won't get much level
2:51
because it's on a slant, but it'll be a
2:54
lot better than what it was. That's how
2:57
much bind weed we've got out of the
2:58
first bit, but obviously there's loads
3:00
of bindweed on this side. So we're going
3:03
to fill a load more up and get that
3:05
sorted. And there we are. We've got to
3:08
the last bit now. We got to the worst
3:11
bit. Why is it that you leave the worst
3:13
bit till the end? Who else does the
3:15
same? They always do the easy bit to
3:17
start off with and then get to the worst
3:18
bit and think, "No, why am I doing
3:21
this?" But it'll all work out well in
3:24
the end. That's what I'm saying to
3:26
myself anyway. So, yeah, let's get this
3:28
last bit out. And there we are. That's
3:32
all cleared now. And another bucket full
3:35
of bindweed. We just need to take the
3:37
bricks out and then we're going to level
3:40
it out, break it over and use our wolf
3:43
garden tool to break it all up, which
3:46
will make it a lot better and then get
3:47
out any more roots that we can.
3:51
So, yeah, I'm absolutely shattered
3:53
already. I'm glad I broke it up into hot
3:56
days uh like this first half today and
3:59
then the other half tomorrow.
4:03
But yeah, let's get all that out. Let's
4:05
get ready to level it all. So, this is
4:07
the tool that I'm going to be using to
4:10
break all the soil up before I rake it
4:14
and level it out. This is a great tool.
4:17
Cost about £50 for the head. Uh,
4:19
obviously you buy the handle separate,
4:22
but that costs about £50. Yes, it's a
4:24
lot of money, but it is a fantastic tool
4:27
and well worth it. I use this on all my
4:29
beds when I'm breaking them all up after
4:31
I've dug them over for weeding and
4:34
keeping on top of the weeds as well.
4:35
Obviously, it's got a hole on that side.
4:38
So, you can do it on this side like that
4:40
and it'll ho it at the same time as
4:42
breaking it up. So, yeah, let's put this
4:45
piece into action and let's get it all
4:48
broke up.
4:51
Wow, this is a hard hard job what we
4:55
have planned today. I certainly built up
4:57
for it this week, but I didn't realize
5:01
how hard it's going to be. But I'm happy
5:03
with how well it's all coming on. So,
5:06
let's have a look at it now that we've
5:07
used the wolf garden tool over it. So,
5:10
yeah, we've broken it all up a lot
5:12
better and crumbled it up. But now we
5:16
just need to rake it over and try and
5:18
get rid of some of that plastic what's
5:20
all broken up.
5:22
But yeah, let's get it all rad over now.
5:26
and ready for the black membrane to go
5:29
down next week. And there we have it.
5:33
All took over, all raked over and ready
5:37
for the black membrane to go on next
5:40
week.
5:41
Absolutely shattered, but it's been
5:45
worth it. We've got it all done. We got
5:47
all the bind weed out and it's looking
5:50
absolutely tons more better than it was
5:54
before.
5:55
So yeah, tomorrow's job doing the second
5:59
half. Do I want to actually do it? Nope.
6:02
But we need to get it done and
6:05
completed. And then once that's done,
6:07
that's a job ticked off. So thank you
6:11
for watching today's video. As you can
6:13
tell, I'm absolutely drenched from the
6:16
hard work down here. Absolutely for It
6:19
shows I put the effort in. That
6:20
certainly is for sure. But yeah, wow.
6:23
It's been a hard job today, but we've
6:25
succeeded and tomorrow we come and we
6:29
finish off this mission that we have
6:32
started.
6:33
But yeah, thank you for watching
6:35
everyone. Make sure you drop us a follow
6:36
if you're not following us already to
6:38
stay up to date with all our videos,
6:40
tips, and advice. Until next time
6:42
everyone, remember keep smiling, keep
6:44
shining and keep gardening with Ben
6:46
