tips and AD advice we will also have
0:34
regular episodes talking about what we
0:36
have been up to on the Alum so sit back
0:40
grab a brute and enjoy today's
0:44
episode hey everyone and welcome back to
0:48
gardening with Ben well it's finally the
0:51
weekend the weekend is finally here I'm
0:54
sure these weeks seem to be getting
0:56
longer I hope you've all been enjoying
0:58
the podcast this week we've been doing
1:00
them a little bit different we've been
1:01
talking about little different topics
1:03
every single day I hope you've all
1:06
enjoyed them we recorded them all in two
1:09
days and we scheduled them all for the
1:12
week so I hope you've all been enjoying
1:14
them as I do like to get them on nice
1:16
and early for you to listen to while
1:18
you're either waking up going to work
1:21
getting ready walking the dog or while
1:23
you're in the garden or having your
1:24
morning Brew either way I hope that
1:28
you're enjoying all your podcast that
1:30
you're listening to so today's podcast
1:33
is going to be talking about what we're
1:35
hoping to get up to at the allotment
1:37
this weekend and the reason why I'm
1:39
laughing is because I recorded an
1:41
episode last week saying what I wanted
1:43
to get up to at the allotment and
1:45
literally I did rubbish I didn't do a
1:47
single thing down there I went there but
1:50
I didn't do much
1:51
whatsoever but yeah fingers crossed we
1:55
have got the motivation to do something
1:57
this weekend well it was absolutely
2:00
awful last week and the weather was
2:01
horrendous it was raining on the
2:04
Saturday and then we had the storm on
2:06
the Sunday so yeah it an absolute wash
2:09
out last weekend so we didn't get
2:11
anything done down there but we do have
2:15
those days where we don't want to do
2:17
anything where we just like to maybe
2:19
just pop down to the Garden just have a
2:21
look and evaluate and decide what we're
2:25
going to be doing in the future well
2:27
last weekend as you know like I said it
2:29
was storm last weekend and we did get
2:32
some damaged to our shed it took a bit
2:35
of a brunt of the wind and speaking to
2:38
my dad he's repaired it and fixed it all
2:41
so it's all going to last another week
2:45
fingers crossed it lasts longer than
2:48
that but yeah it's all repaired and it's
2:50
all hopefully a bit more waterprof we've
2:54
got no no extra windows in there that's
2:57
not
2:58
needed so hopefully we can crack on with
3:01
some allotment work this weekend I've
3:03
not actually checked the weather
3:04
forecast this weekend but if it's like
3:07
today it's not been too bad it's been a
3:09
bit drizzly but hopefully we can get
3:11
some work done
3:13
outside however I have been ordering a
3:17
load of seeds this week and they're all
3:20
just starting to arrive which is
3:23
fantastic as I had an Amazon gift
3:26
voucher for 50 which I wanted to spend
3:30
and like I said each year I like to try
3:33
and grow something new and different
3:36
varieties of things and next year I'm
3:39
thinking of growing well I am going to
3:41
I'm going to be growing different
3:43
varieties of poppies as they're
3:46
absolutely beautiful obviously they
3:49
provide seed heads and you can get some
3:55
amazing flowers year after year from
3:58
them because they just throw the seeds
3:59
out everywhere and hopefully provide
4:03
blooms year after year so I've purchased
4:05
lots of different varieties of poppy
4:07
seeds so I'm looking forward to seeing
4:10
what Delights I'm going to get from them
4:13
obviously you can sprinkle poppies
4:15
straight into the ground to grow in the
4:19
ground or you can start them off in seed
4:21
trays I'm going to be starting all mine
4:23
off in seed trays and getting them
4:26
started that way and that way I know
4:28
where I'm going to be planting them in
4:29
between certain areas and do it like
4:32
that and then I know that when they're
4:34
growing they're not actual weeds that
4:36
are growing CU I tend to just dig up
4:38
anything that's growing to be honest so
4:41
hopefully we get some amazing poppies
4:43
next year so hopefully over the weekend
4:45
we're going to be I'll share some photos
4:48
of all the seeds what I've ordered and
4:51
which ones we'll be trying and I may
4:53
even look at uh doing some with
4:55
different flowers as well different
4:56
varieties of other flowers so if you got
4:59
any good suggestions on good flowers to
5:01
grow and the ones that I've not tried
5:03
before let me know send me a message I'd
5:06
love to hear from you and see what sort
5:09
of things to try and grow cuz I'm always
5:11
up for experimenting down at the
5:14
allotment so what are we hoping to do
5:17
down at the allotment this weekend well
5:20
my main task is going to be starting to
5:23
carry on with sorting my shed out ready
5:25
for next year I know obviously I've had
5:28
all the repairs to do which dad's done
5:30
for me so that's one job less done uh
5:33
but I need to start sorting out some of
5:34
the shelving the old plants what are
5:36
growing in there sort out the plants
5:38
which are growing ready for next year in
5:40
there I've got plenty of different
5:41
flowers currently growing in there at
5:44
the moment so I'm looking forward to
5:46
hopefully keeping them alive throughout
5:48
the winter period and hopefully getting
5:50
them planted outside next year as my
5:52
Greenhouse isn't heated it's just a shed
5:56
and it's not insulated which it probably
5:59
should be but yeah hopefully we can keep
6:02
them alive and keep them growing cuz
6:04
we've got some loopings in there we've
6:06
got some sweet peas in there and yeah
6:09
hopefully we a head start ready for next
6:12
year and I've got all my Salvia cuttings
6:14
as well in there so I'm looking forward
6:15
to all them growing next year so we're
6:17
continuing with tidying up my shed but
6:20
if the weather's decent I'm going to be
6:22
outside around my strawberry bed area
6:25
and I've got some carrots still in a tub
6:29
with which have not harvested yet I'm
6:31
not expecting big things from them
6:32
because I forgot about them and I didn't
6:33
water them all summer so I don't know
6:36
how well they're going to look or if
6:38
I've got any carrots whatsoever but
6:40
we'll have to see and hopefully get them
6:42
harvested and have a look and obviously
6:45
I'll share my results with you I'm never
6:47
shy on sharing failures or success so
6:50
make sure you stay tuned for that on
6:52
Instagram and I'll share a picture of
6:53
that as well and obviously we're going
6:55
to hopefully do some more videos I've
6:57
not done any videos for a while uh of
7:00
for my YouTube channel and my Facebook
7:02
and Instagram as I like to
7:05
do nice longish YouTube videos because
7:08
sometimes it's all right speaking and
7:10
people listening to me but I do like to
7:12
show visual as well so then people can
7:15
see what I'm actually on about so
7:17
hopefully I'll do a few more videos as
7:19
well for you next uh this weekend ready
7:22
to share with you all for next week so
7:26
yeah we've got a lot to be getting on
7:28
with down at the allotment and hopefully
7:31
obviously we'll be fe uh filling the
7:33
bird feeders as well that's one job that
7:34
we need to do and we'll be feeding Mrs
7:37
cat that lives down there and Pops down
7:39
to see us regular we'll be feeding her
7:42
as well so we've got absolutely loads to
7:44
do I've also got my onion seeds come
7:47
through as well so I don't know if I
7:50
should be sewing them yet this month or
7:53
wait until it says on the packet which
7:54
is February uh I do know a lot of
7:57
gardeners that do like onions for show
8:01
and for competitions to start them off
8:03
in December so let me know send me a
8:06
message if I should be starting them now
8:08
if I want some decent big onions and
8:10
I'll start them this month and we can
8:12
share how well they're getting on and
8:14
I've also got some sweet peppers as well
8:17
come through the post and some Au jeans
8:19
so we've got to get them started soon
8:21
because the quicker we get them started
8:24
hopefully they'll get some fantastic
8:26
produce on next year because they only
8:28
just started putting produce on towards
8:31
the end of the summer so they're a bit
8:32
late the plants I started the plants off
8:34
too late I think so we need to start the
8:36
plants off pretty early ready for next
8:38
year to have hopefully a great harvest
8:41
from them
8:42
all so yeah we're going to be having a
8:44
lot of new episodes coming up over the
8:47
coming week of the podcast and
8:50
tomorrow's episode we'll be talking
8:51
about everything that we've got up to at
8:53
the allotment today so make sure you
8:55
stay tuned for tomorrow's episode and
8:57
you'll be able to find out if we've
8:59
actually done any work this weekend so
