Welcome to our weekend roundup and
0:03
welcome to Gardening with Ben. Yes,
0:05
we're going to talk about what we've
0:06
actually done down at the plot and yeah,
0:08
how well it's all coming on. So, on
0:12
Saturday, I spent the morning pinching
0:15
out my sweet peas. I'll be sharing a
0:17
video on that. If you have a look,
0:19
you'll be able to see it come up and
0:21
yeah, we'll show you how to pinch them
0:23
out to get them bushier and to get more
0:25
flowers on them. So, that is one thing
0:26
that I do down on my pls. I love sweet
0:29
peas. I absolutely love them. The more
0:30
flowers the better. And obviously the
0:32
more you pick them, the more they'll
0:33
keep flowering. We've also been busy in
0:37
our outdoor strawberry bed area as I've
0:41
got a strawberry bed with about 300
0:43
strawberries in and quite a lot of them
0:45
had died off from age or from coldness.
0:49
So, I'd had a lot of runners growing in
0:51
the poly tunnel over winter and we've
0:53
putotted them and planted them out and
0:55
we've cleared out all the weeds and
0:58
giving it a massive tidy up. So, that's
1:00
one job that I'm happy that we've
1:02
managed to get done down here. We've
1:05
also obviously been taking the flowers
1:08
off the strawberries because we don't
1:09
want them flowering yet. We want them to
1:11
get a bit bigger and then hopefully
1:13
they'll flower later on and get more
1:16
fruit on them.
1:18
We've also been visiting the poly tunnel
1:20
this weekend. We've got the water back
1:23
on down at the a lotment site. So, I've
1:25
given them all a nice good watering all
1:27
the raised beds so that everything can
1:29
start growing really well in here. It's
1:30
getting warmer and in the poly tunnel it
1:33
gets to like 30° at the moment and we're
1:35
still only in March. So, things are
1:37
growing on well. I've given my hanging
1:38
baskets a good watering as well cuz they
1:41
were starting to dry out, so I'll have
1:42
to start watering them more regularly
1:44
now to hopefully get some amazing
1:46
strawberries on inside the polygonal. I
1:48
can't wait for this year's crop of
1:49
strawberries. I absolutely love them.
1:52
Also, the tulips have started coming out
1:54
on the plot, which I'm happy about. They
1:56
were getting ready yesterday, but
1:58
they've opened up today. So, that's a
2:00
great surprise for me down here. I've
2:02
got so many daffodil bulbs this year. is
2:04
absolutely beautiful of color and that's
2:06
one thing that I want is more color in
2:08
the springtime and I'm looking at the
2:10
areas that haven't got flowers in and
2:12
possibly next year we'll have more
2:14
flowers in them areas. So I'm getting so
2:17
many borders full of flowers. It's
2:18
absolutely gorgeous and the bees love it
2:20
and it's just amazing to see and
2:23
obviously smell the high sims is amazing
2:25
down here. So we've been doing that.
2:28
We've also sewn a lot more seeds because
2:30
I'd sewn a lot for the raised beds what
2:32
I'm going to be growing in, but I'd not
2:33
sewn any for outdoors. So, we've sewn
2:36
some more seeds this weekend. And the
2:38
seeds are starting to germinate. I'm
2:39
having to take the cling film off the
2:41
trays now because they starting to
2:43
sprout. So, yeah, we've got to keep them
2:45
watered as well. That's that's why I'm
2:47
pleased they've turned the water back on
2:49
so can keep up with watering everything.
2:51
Now, we've also dug over some beds ready
2:54
for planting my onions out next week. As
2:56
you know, I've got some onions growing
2:58
in these mini green houses and in cell
3:01
trays. We give them a little head start
3:03
to get growing and then we'll plant them
3:05
out. So, we'll hopefully plant them next
3:07
weekend. That's going to be ne next
3:09
weekend's job down here. And obviously,
3:11
Good Friday, we'll be planting out our
3:15
potatoes as well. So, that'll be a good
3:18
thing. Uh, so we've got lots of work
3:20
getting on down here. And obviously, the
3:22
weeds are starting to grow now, so we're
3:24
having to weed around stuff. I've weeded
3:26
around my shelots and my onions today
3:28
and hopefully next week be weeding
3:31
around my garlic. Get that job done.
3:33
There's so many jobs to get done
3:34
nowadays uh down at the plot. It's all
3:36
starting to come alive and start growing
3:38
which is absolutely fantastic. The
3:40
blossoms coming out on the plum tree. So
3:43
that's hopefully going to get some fruit
3:44
on it. Hopefully the bees do their work
3:47
and pollinate it and get some fruit
3:49
growing on it. So yeah, it's all been a
3:51
pretty much exciting weekend down here
3:54
at the plot. Absolutely feels like I've
3:56
done a lot more than I've actually said,
3:58
but I'm happy with how things are coming
4:00
on and things are growing along. So,
4:02
make sure you drop us a follow to stay
4:04
up to date with all our videos. Until
4:06
next time, everyone, remember, keep
4:08
smiling, keep shining, and keep
4:09
gardening with Ben, everyone.
