This video looks at the free seeds included with a gardening magazine and explains what can be grown from them. I discuss the seed varieties, sowing ideas, and simple growing tips that help gardeners make the most of seed giveaways. It is helpful for gardeners wanting inspiration and practical advice for using free seed packets successfully.

Three seeds are in the Kitchen Garden
0:02
magazine in November. Welcome to
0:04
Gardening with Ben. We're going to be
0:06
showing you what free seeds are in this
0:08
month's magazine. I do love getting
0:10
Kitchen Garden magazine. It's a great
0:11
magazine and it always has an abundance
0:15
of great seeds in it. So, let's see what
0:18
seeds we have got in November's issue.
0:22
As you can see, it's a blind test. I
0:25
don't know what's in it. So, let's have
0:27
a look and see together. See if we can
0:31
plant any this month or if we've got to
0:32
save them. So, first up, we have got
0:38
watermelon sugar. Now, I grew a few
0:41
cantaloupe melons this year, and they
0:42
did absolutely fantastic. They say these
0:45
need to be planted from February to May.
0:49
So, we'll be planting them pretty early
0:51
next year and getting them started in my
0:54
poly tunnel. See if we can get these
0:55
growing. And these are small round
0:57
fruits about 20 cm in diameter and
1:00
average weighing about 4 kg. So yeah, a
1:04
decent size watermelon. So these are
1:06
good for growing in the UK. So we're
1:09
going to give them a try next year.
1:12
Next up we have got turnip golden ball.
1:16
Now these you sew in late March to June.
1:20
So yeah, these are pretty early ones and
1:23
they look nice. Delicious size. nice
1:26
delicious shape and you usually harvest
1:28
them between June and October. So it
1:32
depends obviously when you sew them to
1:34
when you're getting the crops from them.
1:36
So another one that we are going to be
1:39
saving for next year.
1:43
Next up we have got borage. Now I saw
1:46
somebody's video of somebody having
1:49
borage on their a lotment and the bees
1:52
absolutely love them. So, I'm going to
1:55
grow some of that next year and see if
1:57
we can attract more bees to them. Uh,
2:00
the leaves can also be used and have the
2:03
same cucumber flavor. So, they taste
2:05
cucumber. I've never tried porridge, so
2:09
that's going to be a first for me.
2:10
Sewing from March to October, so too
2:13
late to sew them this year, but yeah,
2:15
hopefully we can get some of these sewn
2:18
next year and grown down at the a
2:20
lotment.
2:23
Next up, we have mustard. And you can
2:26
sew this all year round. And you harvest
2:30
it four to seven days from sewing. So,
2:32
it's a bit like a micro green, which I
2:35
was talking about in one of my other
2:36
videos. So, if you got somewhere nice
2:38
and warm, like in your house or flat on
2:41
your window, pop some in, and you can be
2:44
harvesting it in seven days. A nice fast
2:47
easy crop which you can add to obviously
2:50
your sandwiches and to your meals. and a
2:53
great addition to any meal.
2:56
So, I'm definitely going to try some of
2:57
them. I can sew some of those now.
2:59
Actually, I get some of those growing.
3:01
Now, next up, we have got chives. Again,
3:05
an all year round uh on the window, but
3:07
if you're growing it outdoors, you need
3:09
to sew them around March to May time,
3:13
and you can harvest them. Has a mild
3:16
onion flavor for use in variety of
3:19
dishes. So, I haven't got a herb garden
3:22
down in my plot. I really do need a herb
3:24
garden. So, we're going to give an extra
3:26
effort next year and try and grow some
3:29
herbs down here at the a lotment.
3:32
And finally, we have got money maker.
3:35
Now, you sew these from January to
3:37
April. Obviously, if you sew them in
3:39
January or February, March, you need
3:41
somewhere warm to get them to germinate.
3:43
So, it'll be on a window sill or a
3:45
heated greenhouse.
3:47
But we're going to be sewing some
3:49
tomatoes again next year. We did really
3:51
well with his tomatoes this year. They
3:52
did absolutely fantastic. Money maker
3:54
are one of the best varieties of
3:56
tomatoes to grow out there. So overall,
3:59
we have got some decent vegetables to
4:02
grow next year down at the a lotment.
4:04
We've got six packs in this month's
4:06
magazine. A great amount. And obviously
4:09
you have your magazine as well which
4:12
comes with lots of tips and advice on
4:16
growing vegetables.
4:18
So a great price and a great amount of
4:21
knowledge. I always love Kitchen Garden
4:23
magazine. It's more down to earth and
4:26
you can understand it easily. It's great
4:29
a lotment. They have real a lotmenters
4:31
in it sharing tips and advice as well.
4:34
So it's always a great magazine. So
4:36
yeah, that is what's in the November's
4:39
Kitchen Garden magazine this month. Make
4:42
sure you go and get one if you're wanted
4:43
it. Until next time everyone, remember,
4:46
keep smiling, keep shining, and keep
4:48
gardening with Ben.
