Let's sow all our sunflowers. Welcome to
0:02
Gardening with Ben. And now we're in
0:04
April, we can start to sow those
0:06
sunflowers ready for getting them nice
0:09
and tall indoors and then planting them
0:11
out when the frost has gone and they've
0:13
got to a decent height. The slugs like
0:15
to attack them, so I usually like to get
0:17
them to a decent size before I do plant
0:19
them out. And you may ask why have I got
0:21
so many sunflowers? Well, I saw loads on
0:25
a stall at King's when I went on to a
0:28
press conference and I I chose lots of
0:31
the varieties from them cuz I do love my
0:33
sunflowers and I love the weird and
0:35
wonderful looking ones and there's
0:36
certainly some great looking sunflowers
0:39
here. So, we've got lots of different
0:41
varieties to try down here this year and
0:43
I'm looking forward to the display. They
0:45
attract the bees, they look gorgeous and
0:48
they're great for photos. As you know, I
0:50
love a good selfie. So, we're going to
0:52
plant these in the Oaklands cell trays
0:55
and get them started.
0:57
And then once they're big enough, we'll
0:58
plant them outdoors. So, let's get
1:00
sowing all of these seeds and remember,
1:02
you need some labels to label up the
1:04
variety so that you know which variety
1:06
they are before they bloom.
1:08
As I always forget to label stuff up but
1:10
I love to know what variety they are.
1:12
So, yeah, let's get them sown.
1:17
So, this is a cell trays that we are
1:18
sowing them in. It would have been
1:20
better if we'd have sown them in root
1:21
trays but we're using the root trays for
1:23
our runner beans. So, we're going to use
1:25
these for the sunflowers and we'll plant
1:27
one in each cell and then once they're
1:29
big enough, we'll transplant them, pot
1:31
them on and then we will plant them
1:33
outdoors when it's safe to do so. So,
1:36
let's get some compost in and let's get
1:37
sowing all these seeds.
1:39
So, that is them all sown. I've cheated
1:41
and I've put two in each one. I know I
1:42
shouldn't put two in each one, it'd be
1:44
better with one in them but we're saving
1:46
space as I'm running out of space now,
1:48
so we'll pop two in each one but we've
1:50
labeled them up really well so that we
1:52
know which variety they are and Oaklands
1:54
Gardens came to the rescue with labels
1:56
this year. I've got a thousand, so I'm
2:00
going to have any issues not knowing
2:02
what anything is this year, fingers
2:04
And yeah, let's get them all covered and
2:06
let's get them all watered and hopefully
2:09
we're going to have an awesome display
2:10
of sunflowers this year.
2:12
So, they're all covered now. We'll water
2:13
them when we go around with a hose pipe
2:15
but we're going to keep them in the
2:16
polytunnel where it's absolutely boiling
2:18
and hopefully get them to germinate
2:21
about 7 days probably and we may be
2:26
So, I'm excited for this year's growing
2:30
So, make sure you drop us a follow to
2:31
stay up to date with all our videos and
2:33
how well our sunflowers get on this
2:35
year. Until next time everyone,
2:36
remember, keep smiling, keep shining and
2:38
keep gardening with Ben everyone.
