What are the best varieties of daffodils
0:04
to plant for some spring color in your
0:07
garden? Welcome to Gardening with Ben.
0:10
We're now in autumn in October and we're
0:13
going to be planting our daffodil bulbs
0:15
today. We've got so many varieties to
0:17
plant down here and you don't realize,
0:20
but there is so many varieties of
0:21
daffodil to choose from to plant these
0:25
days. They can be small ones, they can
0:27
be pink ones, they can be centered ones,
0:30
they can be white ones, there's even
0:32
pinky colored looking daffodils. Now, so
0:34
there's many varieties out there from
0:37
your plain simple ones. And the
0:40
varieties that I like to choose are the
0:42
unusual looking varieties as they do add
0:46
a bit of extra detail to the garden.
0:49
They're absolutely gorgeous to grow. So,
0:52
the varieties that we're going to be
0:54
planting are the daffodils double. And
0:58
these are the varieties that we've got
1:00
planted today. Absolutely great variety.
1:03
There's 25 bulbs in here. So, we've got
1:05
a few packs of them. We've also got a
1:09
daffodil mixed variety,
1:12
which is a great variety. Lots of
1:14
different varieties of daffodil. So
1:16
hopefully we're going to have some
1:18
amazing displays down here at the a
1:21
lotment. Now obviously when you're
1:23
planting your daffodils, you need to
1:24
plant them nice and deep. So make sure
1:26
you've got a bulb planter so that you
1:29
can get to the good depth of the art.
1:31
They usually say plant them double the
1:34
bulb length down. And obviously if you
1:38
plant them deep then you can grow stuff
1:40
on top in the summertime and use that
1:43
space wisely. So we're going to a
1:46
fantastic display in our new area of our
1:49
a lotment at the top which hopefully
1:51
come springtime will look absolutely
1:53
gorgeous and you'll be able to come back
1:55
in spring and have a look at how well
1:57
it's getting on down here. But yeah,
1:59
we've been working hard. We've been
2:01
planting up our rockeries and now it's
2:04
time to plant our daffodil balls. We
2:06
won't be planting as tulips until the
2:08
end of October, beginning of November
2:10
because that can risk with tulip fire.
2:13
So, let's see what we're going to be
2:15
planting today and where we're going to
2:16
be planting it. So, this is our new bed
2:19
that we planted at the top of the plot.
2:23
We planted some winter pansies to add
2:24
some color throughout the winter time.
2:27
We've got a few more pansies to plant as
2:30
I'd ran out the other day, but we've got
2:31
a few more to put in there. It's not
2:33
bulging with pansies, but come
2:36
springtime when all the bulbs are out,
2:38
it'll look absolutely gorgeous. We've
2:40
got bulbs in the top bit like crocuses.
2:43
and
2:45
blue bells, muscar. So, it's going to
2:48
look absolutely good or color towards
2:51
the back part of it. We're going to
2:52
plant the daffod uh the tulip bulbs as
2:55
they're taller and we're going to plant
2:56
the daffodils towards the front. So, I'm
2:58
going to use a cane so I know where I've
3:00
planted them and so then I can plant the
3:02
tulips at the end of the month and get
3:05
those in. So, yeah, let's get them all
3:08
laid out and in place and see how well
3:11
it looks. So, we've laid out all the
3:14
daffodil bulbs in front of them canes so
3:17
that we know where to plant the tulips
3:18
towards the back bit, which will be at
3:21
the end of the month. But yeah, now to
3:23
get all these planted nice and deep and
3:26
fingers crossed in springtime, this is
3:28
going to look absolutely phenomenal with
3:30
plenty of color and hopefully attract
3:34
the bees to the plot. So, let's get them
3:37
all planted.
3:39
And there we are. They're all planted
3:41
now. Make sure you come back in
3:43
springtime to see how well the displays
3:46
look down here and see if they do
3:49
actually look any good.
3:51
So, I hope you've enjoyed watching
3:53
today's video on spring bulbs on
3:56
daffodils.
3:57
And like I say, make sure you drop us a
3:59
follow to stay up to date with all our
4:01
videos and how well it'll look come
4:03
springtime. So until next time everyone
4:06
remember keep smiling, keep shining and
4:08
keeping with everyone.
