It's the weekend everybody and what jobs
0:02
do we need to do this weekend down at
0:04
the aotment. Welcome to Gardening with
0:06
Ben and in today's video we're going to
0:08
talk about the jobs which need doing
0:10
this weekend and the jobs that you can
0:13
start doing if you've not already
0:14
started them. So if we're starting with
0:17
outdoors, the main thing is is to start
0:19
turning those beds over. Like my beds
0:22
are pretty much weed-free. I did them
0:24
all at end of November and yeah, there's
0:26
no weeds in them at the moment because
0:28
it's been cold. We've not had much sun.
0:31
It's only just started warming up. So,
0:32
the weeds will start to grow again and
0:35
start to form. So, it's a good time to
0:37
dig over them beds again and check for
0:39
any roots what are in there and start
0:41
getting them out. So, that's one job
0:43
that I want to do. Get them all dug over
0:45
again ready for when I'll be planted out
0:47
in May. I won't plant out till May
0:49
because that's when the chance of frost
0:51
has passed for me where I'm based. So
0:54
that's one job that we need to do. Next
0:56
job is sew so so se so se so there's
0:59
loads of seeds that we can be sewing
1:00
this month. So many seeds. I've got a
1:03
unheated greenhouse and as you've
1:04
probably seen from my photos, I've got a
1:07
lot of stuff germinating. This warm
1:08
weather this week has helped speed
1:10
things up and start things germinating.
1:12
So if you got an unheated greenhouse,
1:14
you can start sewing. The only things
1:16
that I don't sew this month will be my
1:19
runna beans and my sweet corns and my
1:21
sunflowers. Those will be the ones that
1:23
I sew next month. Near enough everything
1:25
else you can start sewing. So have a
1:27
look at the packets and obviously check
1:29
the temperatures in your area. The next
1:32
thing is to make sure that the seeds are
1:34
getting watered. Like I cover mine with
1:36
cling film until they start germinating
1:38
and then I take the cling film off and
1:40
so that they can reach the full
1:42
potential and obviously they'll start to
1:44
dry out. So, make sure that they keep
1:46
getting enough water. If you've got
1:48
strawberry plants growing, make sure
1:50
that you dead head the old leaves off
1:51
them so that they can start forming
1:53
their own new leaves if they're
1:55
outdoors. That is all mine are indoors.
1:57
They're all fresh and healthy. No old
1:59
leaves on there. And yeah, I'll be
2:01
working on my outdoor
2:04
strawberries this weekend. That is one
2:06
job that I'll be doing. And filling in
2:07
any gaps where there's no plants in cuz
2:10
I took a lot of runners last year. So,
2:12
we'll be placing some runners in the
2:14
gaps what where they died off from last
2:19
Get your sweet peas started. If you've
2:20
not started your sweet peas off, start
2:22
them growing. Start them going and yeah,
2:26
get the sweet peas going. I'm going to
2:27
be pinching mine out. I'll be filming a
2:29
video on that on how to pinch out your
2:31
sweet peas. that makes them form bushier
2:34
sweet peas so that they get to a lot of
2:36
more flowers on and they're not
2:39
necessarily bigger flowers but they can
2:41
be a bit smaller but they'll get more
2:43
flowers on the plant so they'll produce
2:44
more flowers so we'll be pinching them
2:46
out and I'll share a video with you
2:48
shortly. So yeah, big jobs this weekend.
2:51
There's a lot to get done. So make the
2:53
most of the nice weather everybody and
2:55
remember keep smiling, keep shining and
2:58
keep gardening with Ben everybody.
