hey everyone and welcome back to
0:01
gardening with Ben well we're harvesting
0:04
our Christmas potatoes
0:06
[Music]
0:25
today yes I know it's only November but
0:28
the plants have died off as you seen in
0:30
my previous tour videos so we planted
0:33
these around beginning of August hoping
0:36
to harvest them around Christmas time
0:37
but the plants have died off now so it's
0:40
ready to get them harvested so let's
0:42
stay tuned and let's see whether we've
0:44
had a success or we've had a failure
0:47
fingers crossed we've had a success but
0:50
yeah you will be with me along this
0:52
journey to see how well we've actually
0:54
done with
0:55
them so these are my Christmas potatoes
0:58
as you can see the plants have died off
1:01
we've got four different types of
1:03
potatoes in here we've got M pot M Piper
1:08
we've got jacket
1:09
potatoes we've got an
1:12
allrounder and we've got a baking potato
1:14
as well now these we didn't buy them
1:17
from the garden center we bought them
1:18
from Tesco we just used normal potatoes
1:21
and yeah let's see if we have actually
1:25
had a success so we need to take these
1:27
outside to empty them out cuz we don't
1:29
want to empty it all in the poly tunnel
1:31
and see what we've actually grown so are
1:35
you excited because I know I certainly
1:38
am fingers crossed we have some potatoes
1:40
in these
1:41
hopefully thing is about growing
1:43
Christmas potatoes is that you usually
1:46
plant them around August time but you
1:48
have to plant them indoors as it gets
1:51
colder and the frost or the cold weather
1:54
will kill the plants off so that's why
1:57
we've grown them in boxes we've grown
1:58
them in the poly tunnel so where it's
2:00
warmer obviously we've had to keep them
2:02
watered and yeah we grew all our normal
2:06
potatoes in boxes as well this year and
2:08
they did absolutely fantastic if you saw
2:10
them we had so many potatoes from them
2:12
yes it cost quite a bit for the compost
2:14
and stuff like that but we had a good
2:16
success and they tasted absolutely
2:18
fantastic in the air fry so let's stop
2:21
blabbing on and let's have a look see
2:23
how well we've going on now they were
2:25
heavy lifting them out wow whether it's
2:28
because they were wet because there's
2:30
lots of potatoes in them we'll soon see
2:33
so yeah the best thing about growing
2:34
them in boxes is that you don't stab
2:37
them when you dig them out
2:39
and there's less chance of them getting
2:42
wi worm and stuff and loads of holes in
2:44
them so hopefully we're going to have
2:47
some produce in these potatoes so let's
2:51
do the first
2:53
one now the first one we're going to
2:55
harvest is Maris Piper hopefully fingers
2:58
crossed a good crop let's have a
3:07
[Applause]
3:15
look see if there's any potatoes in have
3:18
this rotten ones whether there's any
3:20
potatoes in it that is a question
3:37
hey everyone it's gardening with Ben
3:38
here a short little advert in between
3:40
the video that you are watching just a
3:42
reminder to keep listening to my
3:44
podcasts available on Spotify Amazon
3:48
Alexa Apple anywhere you can listen to
3:52
podcasts on just search for gardening
3:54
with Ben and you will find lots of new
3:56
episodes posted on a regular basis for
3:59
you to listen to so if you're not
4:00
listening to my podcast go and have a
4:02
listen to them and make sure you give
4:04
them a follow as well let's get back to
4:06
the episode oh
4:10
dear that one has been a total
4:18
failure oh is it we've got a few got one
4:23
two
4:26
three six seven
4:30
we have to check because we don't want
4:31
to miss any although start growing all
4:34
over my
4:36
plot so yeah complete failure that one
4:40
not done well at all with that like I
4:43
said I'm an honest Gardener we show you
4:46
success and
4:48
failure let's have a look in the next
4:50
one jacket potatoes
5:04
[Music]
5:07
whoa
5:09
success absolute
5:11
success that's made me
5:16
happier look at them ones not as big as
5:19
jacket potatoes but they're perfect them
5:24
ones absolutely fantastic now that's the
5:27
original ones I put in so we don't want
5:33
them absolutely Lo in this
5:39
one that's made me happier that's made
5:41
this video
5:43
worthwh let's get all these ones
5:46
out these are the jacket potato ones
5:49
which I harvested quite a few out of
5:51
that one happy with that not L but it's
5:55
good enough for me so next on to the
5:59
baking
6:01
take this don't seem very
6:09
heavy Oh Come
6:15
minute got some dly
6:20
ones oh yes not size of the baking
6:24
potatoes that were planted but got lots
6:28
of little small ones so these are
6:31
certainly get
6:33
eaten but yeah there's loads of
6:37
these I have these in my air fry these
6:39
ones look look the little ones com
6:47
out maybe I should have watered these a
6:49
bit more really probably that's the
6:52
thing with growing them indoors you have
6:53
to keep them watered absolutely alerts
6:56
coming out of this one
7:01
so this one's been a good
7:03
success that's the thing we're doing it
7:05
on a video showing you whether we've
7:08
successfully done it or not but like I
7:10
said I'm an open and honest Gardener
7:13
I'll show you success the
7:19
fails that's the thing about gardening
7:22
is that you do have failures things
7:24
don't always go to plan
7:29
I'm just getting all Diddy ones out as
7:31
well because like I say if we leave them
7:33
in they'll start growing plants next
7:35
year the piles building up lots and
7:38
potatoes coming out we're just going to
7:40
P them all together it don't matter
7:41
about separated them what variety they
7:42
are we'll still stick them all in air
7:44
fryer and just eat them as Chi
7:47
it oh this one's ever but yeah we're on
7:51
to the last one last one of the potatoes
7:54
so fingers crossed we have another
7:56
success
8:01
wow this one's wet this one but I can
8:04
see lots of potatoes in there absolutely
8:07
love of
8:08
potatoes which is a good sign
8:14
spiders oh yeah plenty in
8:19
here so let's get all these ones out so
8:23
overall we've done pretty well out of
8:25
them four boxes one were a complete
8:26
failure at the mouse Pipers but the
8:28
others did well well they're a decent
8:30
size and yeah they'll do well for
8:32
chippies
8:34
then so there we are we washed them all
8:36
up and they look absolutely fantastic
8:38
well L of that one that one's G green
8:40
they're poisonous green ones but yeah
8:43
hopefully we'll have some nice chippies
8:45
out of
8:47
them so I hope you've enjoyed that video
8:49
like I said I'm an honest Gardener I'll
8:51
show you whether stuff works whether it
8:53
fails and I'm happy we've had pretty
8:56
good success one absolutely failed but
8:59
the the others did absolutely fantastic
9:01
yes probably I should have maybe watered
9:03
them more to make them grow bigger but
9:06
we've got a decent Harvest and we'll be
9:08
having chippies for the next month from
9:11
how many we've got from them so yeah
9:14
success all around if you don't follow
9:17
me do give me a follow give it a like
9:19
leave your comments in the box below as
9:21
well so until next time everyone
9:23

9:26
