This video shares the ongoing transformation of the allotment, showing the progress being made to improve the plot and prepare it for a productive growing season.
I go through clearing areas, organising growing spaces, improving beds, and tackling jobs that are easier to complete during the quieter winter period. These changes help create a more manageable layout and set the foundations for healthier plants and better harvests.
Great for gardeners looking for motivation and practical ideas on how to renovate, reorganise, and bring a tired or overgrown plot back into a productive growing space.

Hey up everybody. It's Gardening with
0:02
Ben. Well, it's Sunday today and it's
0:04
not very cold. It's pretty all right to
0:07
be honest to say we're in December. It's
0:09
a pretty good day to be down here at the
0:11
a lotment. So, we're down here nice and
0:13
early to hopefully complete the jobs
0:16
what I was starting yesterday with the
0:19
clearing of the plot and getting the
0:21
beds built. I've remembered my saw
0:22
today. So, fingers crossed we can get as
0:25
much done as possible down here. So,
0:27
let's have a look at what we're doing
0:29
today down at the plot.
0:31
So, we're down here at the a lotment
0:33
this morning. We have lots and lots to
0:36
do. There's always plenty to be done at
0:37
the a lotment. And while it's nice,
0:39
while the weather's decent, it's time to
0:41
get out in the gardens and get doing
0:43
that work. There's a squirrel. Look at
0:46
that little pesky thing.
0:48
So today's job is clearing this area
0:52
just here in front of my new area, which
0:56
I did, that new area needs all the
0:59
leaves clearing from the tree, but it
1:01
should be back in good stand soon. And
1:04
hopefully we'll get some flowers in
1:05
there during the summer months. It'll
1:07
look nice in that area. And I want some
1:09
herbs in that area as well, which should
1:11
look good. So yeah, yesterday we cleared
1:15
six beds down here at the plot. We need
1:18
to repair the ones that have got beams
1:20
missing, fix them up, and they're done.
1:24
But yeah, we've got to build two beds
1:26
here. So hopefully we get all that done
1:29
today. I've left the worst bit till the
1:31
last, the dumping area. You just move
1:33
everything up the plot as you move
1:34
along. So yeah, we've got it all
1:36
together and get it all sorted. But it
1:39
should get done. That is the mission
1:41
today. I'm not going home till I've done
1:43
it. And that's the guarantee. So yeah,
1:47
let's crack on with the plot. It's all
1:49
looking pretty good and pretty smart
1:51
right now. We've got a lot of work still
1:53
to do. There's still some beds at the
1:55
bottom to fix. Uh but by the end of next
1:58
week, it should be all pretty clear and
2:01
the main plot ready for next year's
2:03
growing, which will be exciting. So
2:06
exciting to start next year. You always
2:08
get that buzz about it when you're
2:10
starting the plot for the year and
2:12
excitement when you first sew the
2:14
seedlings and they all start popping
2:15
through for the year ahead. So yeah,
2:18
let's stop talking and let's get
2:20
cracking.
2:23
So we've now finished our job for today
2:26
and wow, we've got a lot done and I'm
2:28
impressed with how much we got done. My
2:30
electric saw ran out during while I were
2:33
rebuilding some of the beds. So, I'm not
2:35
being able to do them all, but we'll
2:36
have to get it charged and finish that
2:38
off next time when we're down here at
2:40
the plot as there's still a bit to do in
2:42
the main plot area. So, let's have a
2:44
look and see what's happening.
2:47
So, yeah, I am impressed with how much
2:50
we have got done here at the plot. We
2:54
have got these eight beds done this
2:56
weekend, which I wanted to get done. So
2:58
yeah, they're all dug over, weeded, and
3:02
ready for next year. Obviously, they'll
3:04
need weeding again before then, but
3:06
we'll keep on top of the weeds. We've
3:07
done what I wanted to get done. We've
3:09
laid new paths around this top area as
3:13
there weren't no paths there before. We
3:15
built them two beds, which weren't there
3:17
either, so we've got two extra beds next
3:19
year. And yeah, it'll look better once
3:22
this wood chip down on the path as it
3:24
makes it look more natural. I love uh
3:27
the weed suppressant as it keeps the
3:28
weeds down. I want to keep it as
3:30
maintenancefree as possible. Obviously,
3:32
we still get little toughs to grass
3:34
growing in between, but not as bad as
3:37
what it would be if we didn't have the
3:39
weed membrane down. So, hopefully we'll
3:41
get some wood chip and get that sorted.
3:43
But I've still got that bed to repair.
3:45
Uh like I said, we ran out of power on
3:48
my electric saw, so we'll have to leave
3:50
that. But yeah, I'm happy with how well
3:54
it's all looking. Next week's job, I'll
3:57
be starting to clear all these leaves
3:59
out of this area and tidy this back up.
4:02
But yeah, look at this. Absolutely
4:05
amazing. All the beds dug over, most of
4:08
them repaired and ready for next year's
4:12
growing. It's looking absolutely amazing
4:15
down here. I'm really impressed with how
4:17
well it's done. Um, like I said, next
4:20
week's job, we got that bed to repair
4:22
there. We got this bed to repair here,
4:25
that one there, and I think that's it.
4:29
And we'll just be clearing all the
4:30
bricks off from what we had down to hold
4:33
the netting up. But yeah, hopefully
4:36
we'll get this plot finished in a day,
4:39
next Wednesday,
4:41
and then it'll be ready for growing. And
4:45
we're going to clear up all the paths,
4:46
get all them tided, swept, get the mud
4:48
off them so that it's not as slippery.
4:52
But then it'll be on to the next job.
4:54
There's always plenty of jobs to be done
4:56
down at the plot getting things done and
4:59
getting things sorted. But yeah, I hope
5:02
you're impressed with how well it's all
5:04
looking. We've got his garlic growing.
5:06
We've got his broad beans growing. We've
5:08
got his onions grow. These are Chinese
5:10
garlic. I'm doing a comparison to see if
5:12
Chinese garlic actually grow well or
5:14
not. A lot of people say don't grow
5:16
Chinese garlic because it's not any
5:18
good. And that's the UK and looking at
5:21
it, Chinese garlic's doing better. So,
5:24
we'll see which one grows the best down
5:28
here at the a lotment. Broad beans are
5:30
doing amazing and the onions are coming
5:32
along good. So, yeah, happy with how
5:35
everything's looking.
