February is the time to be getting your trees and shrubs ready for new growth growing in spring. Find out February Trees and Shrub Jobs here.
When the weather is decent and the soil is not soaked you can continue to plant deciduous trees and shrubs this month. If you have any newly planted standard trees these need to be check that they have not become loose over winter from the frost. These can be tread round to firm it up.
Giving the trees a tar-oil winter wash will remove any lichen and moss from trees but protect any plants nearby.
Shrubs can be prunded this month by cutting away previous years grow back to a few inches. This will encourage a lot of grow and shoots to appear and develop.
Prune Summer variety of clematis back to 12 inches above the ground or around two buds up on the plant.
