0:07
growing this year so sit back relax and
0:10
enjoy today's episode everyone
0:14
[Music]
0:32
so welcome to gardening with Ben and in
0:35
today's episode we are going to be
0:37
talking about what melon seeds we're
0:39
going to be growing this year as I want
0:41
to try again with growing them we've
0:44
grown the cantaloup in the past and they
0:47
did really well but I've not grown them
0:49
for a few years now so we want to give
0:52
them another try this year and see how
0:55
well we get on cuz melons are absolutely
0:58
gorgeous and if you got the right
1:00
conditions a poly tunnel or a greenhouse
1:03
you can grow them here in the UK so
1:06
we're going to be trying quite a few
1:08
different varieties now I just went
1:11
online on Amazon and purchased all the
1:15
melon seeds that were available I just
1:17
tried all different varieties I thought
1:19
why not we'll give them all a try so
1:23
we've got these melon e
1:26
mf1 variety now these ones on are ideal
1:31
for cooler growing conditions so fingers
1:34
crossed with us being in the UK we
1:35
should get some produce on them ones and
1:38
there's about 20 seeds in that
1:41
one we've also got some with a nice
1:44
orange flesh in them and these are
1:47
called anas ananas I can never say these
1:50
words but yeah they look absolutely
1:54
delicious them ones so we'll be trying
1:57
them ones
2:00
then we've got a melon variety called
2:01
Queen
2:03
an these are from Premier seed which was
2:06
on
2:11
Amazon then we've got a few varieties of
2:14
watermelons now I've never grown
2:15
watermelons here in my allotment so we
2:19
might get some we might not but we'll
2:21
we'll give them a try it's worth a shot
2:23
I'm nothing to loose apart from
2:26
compost but yeah these ones are petite
2:29
yellow and again these are Premier seed
2:32
ones the premier seed ones don't seem to
2:34
have any growing instructions on them so
2:36
you have to like Google them to find out
2:39
what to do with the growing conditions
2:41
for these ones but they'll be pretty
2:43
much the same as any other melon grow in
2:46
somewhere where it's decent warm and
2:50
plenty of sunshine 60 seeds in that one
2:54
so I'll that should last me a few
2:56
years and then we've got the watermelon
2:59
Jubilee
3:00
again 60 seeds in that one so plenty of
3:06
seeds then we've got one called sugar
3:08
baby so maybe their baby variety of
3:12
watermelons and there's 110 seeds in
3:15
that one I definitely won't be growing
3:17
all of them but if I do have some spare
3:20
I'll be giving them to plot neighbors or
3:22
to my dad to see if he can grow some so
3:25
yeah 110 seeds in that
3:28
one and then we we have a cal sweet
3:33
watermelon so plenty of varieties of
3:36
watermelons to try and looking at them
3:40
I've not got any cantaloup ones so we
3:41
need to get some cantaloup melons and
3:44
try them again because obviously I know
3:46
there were success growing them down
3:48
here so I'm looking forward to Growing
3:49
them we'll be sewing them around March
3:52
time as that's when the weather warms up
3:55
and I can sew them in my shed or in my
3:58
greenhouse and it's not a heated
4:00
Greenhouse it's just relying on the
4:03
sunshine so that's when we'll be
4:05
starting these off down here at the
4:07
allotment so make sure you stay tuned
4:10
for this year's videos and stay up to
4:13
date with how well we get on with
4:15
growing our melons obviously we've got
4:17
this weekly tour video and we will also
4:20
be filming these melons along the
4:22
journey throughout the year so if you're
4:24
not following us do give us a follow and
4:26
click the bell and then you'll get
4:27
notified when new videos come up so yeah
4:31
I'm excited to try something new it's
4:33
always good to try something new when
4:35
you're growing and experiments sometimes
4:38
you can have great success sometimes
4:40
then the year after you'll have a
4:41
failure and think what have I done wrong
4:43
and I've done it exactly the same but
4:45
yeah we will be trying them and giving
4:47
them a go so fingers crossed we get some
4:50
melons this year cuz they're absolutely
4:53
gorgeous and they're expensive to buy
4:54
from the shop melons so hopefully we
4:57
will reap the rewards from them so I
5:00
hope you've enjoyed that let me know in
5:01
the comments if you've grown melons
5:03
before I would love to hear from you all
5:06
and let me know what varieties you've
5:08
grown so until next time everyone
5:10
remember keep smiling keep shining and
5:12
keep gardening with Ben everyone
