[Music]
0:36
so welcome to today's episode in today's
0:40
episode we're going to be talking about
0:41
what's on our list of seeds and plants
0:44
for down at the alotment Garden this
0:47
year in
0:49
2025 so we've got a big bucket list of
0:52
seeds that we want to grow this year
0:55
down at the allotment we'll be growing
0:57
all the usual stuff like our sweet C
1:00
our potatoes our iceberg lettuce our
1:03
beetroot our Runa beans our peas but we
1:07
want to be trying some new things down
1:09
here at the alotment this year so the
1:12
things that we want to try this year are
1:15
we want to try growing some chilies
1:18
we're going to be giving them a try this
1:19
year we're going to be trying some
1:21
peppers we're also going to be trying
1:24
some melons now I grew melons quite a
1:27
few years ago and we did well we grew
1:31
some caler melons so I'm going to look
1:33
at growing some of those again this year
1:35
down in the poly tunnel see if if we get
1:38
a warm summer and hopefully get some
1:40
good produce off if it's a bad summer we
1:43
possibly won't get any but we're going
1:45
to give them a try with nothing to lose
1:47
apart from getting all the
1:49
compost but yeah we're going to try
1:51
melons and we possibly might try
1:53
watermelons as well this year I've seen
1:56
some where there are like smaller
1:58
variety for you okay so hopefully we're
2:01
going to give them a try and see if we
2:03
can get some watermelons growing down
2:05
here at the alotment so yeah we're going
2:07
to be trying them we're going to be
2:08
trying plenty of different varieties of
2:10
squash and Pumpkins this year hopefully
2:13
get some decent Siz ones I'm going to
2:15
focus on trying to get a massive pumpkin
2:17
this year down at the Orman now usually
2:19
I've focused on growing a couple on a
2:21
plant but this year I might just have
2:23
one growing on one plant and see how big
2:26
we can actually get it to grow now that
2:28
will require a lot of watering a lot of
2:31
feeding and hopefully getting it nice
2:33
and big and plump for
2:35
Halloween this year we're also going to
2:38
try lots of varieties of flowers down
2:42
here at the allotment this year now last
2:44
year I grew quite a few varieties of
2:46
poppies and they did absolutely
2:48
beautiful I grew them from seed there
2:50
was like a black variety absolutely
2:53
gorgeous so I've purchased a load of
2:56
different varieties of poppies I
2:57
literally just went on Amazon and
2:59
purchased every variety of poppe so
3:01
we're going to start them off from seed
3:03
I do I don't usually sew them straight
3:05
into the soil because knowing me I'll
3:07
dig them up thinking that they're weeds
3:10
but yeah we're going to start them off
3:11
in seed trays and then plant them where
3:13
we want them to grow and hopefully
3:15
they'll keep spreading year on year and
3:17
getting a nice field of poppies down
3:20
here different varieties I love to go
3:22
for different varieties of plants
3:24
because they're special and they don't
3:26
look like the usual bog standard flower
3:30
we're also going to try a lot of
3:31
different varieties of sweet peas as
3:33
well so I'm going to do the same thing
3:35
look on Amazon and see what varieties
3:37
they are out there and just try
3:39
different varieties of sweet peas I'm
3:42
going to do it same as well for
3:44
sunflowers now I did this one year and I
3:46
grew fantastic different varieties of
3:48
sunflowers well obviously you'll get
3:50
your usual ones which are bright yellow
3:53
or the really tall ones called Russian
3:56
sunflowers but we're going to try the
3:58
teddy variety which is a lot fluffy
4:00
variety we're going to try the black
4:03
variety and the red variety of
4:04
sunflowers so yeah adding more different
4:07
varieties and color to our alotment
4:09
because I do love growing the different
4:11
varieties it's the same when I grow
4:12
tulips I grow all the different
4:14
varieties of tulips because I think they
4:16
look more special than the standard
4:20
varieties we've also got some loopings
4:22
growing we've got some hollyw growing
4:24
we've got delphiniums growing so we're
4:26
trying lots of different varieties of
4:28
them and when I go to the BBC Garden as
4:31
well this year I'm going to buy some
4:32
more varieties of salvia because I
4:35
planted some for the first time last
4:36
year and wow it was fantastic now it was
4:40
like a black current variety so it smell
4:42
of black currents it were purple I took
4:45
plenty of cuttings off that one so
4:47
hopefully we'll have a load more plants
4:49
growing from it next year well this year
4:52
now so hopefully we'll have different
4:54
varieties of them so yeah I'm going to
4:56
try different varieties I've done this
4:58
in the past with like growing different
5:00
varieties of beans different colored
5:04
variety of beans like purple ones yellow
5:06
ones black ones red ones I just love to
5:09
try different varieties out because you
5:11
don't see them in the shops because they
5:13
won't sell different varieties of or
5:16
different colors of vegetables because
5:18
people won't buy them they won't think
5:20
that is right so they won't buy them so
5:22
that's your chance to try and grow
5:25
different varieties because obviously I
5:27
grow the market more variety cucumber
5:30
which you don't see in the shops because
5:32
it's spiky but I have a better crop
5:35
growing the market more variety so
5:38
sometimes things do a lot better growing
5:40
different varieties like you can get
5:42
different varieties of beetroot
5:44
different colors different color carrots
5:47
it's all fun and games when you're
5:49
gardening trying different stuff new
5:51
stuff new varieties out down in the
5:54
garden so if you're trying different
5:56
varieties or there's different varieties
5:58
out there let me know in in the comments
6:00
what you're growing or if you found a
6:02
perfect different variety of vegetable
6:05
let me know in the comments I always
6:07
love to find different things to try out
6:09
and if you don't try them you won't know
6:12
how well they grow and another thing
6:14
that I've grown in the past is purple
6:16
cauliflower yes purple cauliflower it is
6:18
a real thing uh it's not one of these
6:21
fake AI pictures it's a real thing and
6:25
the purple cauliflower does a lot better
6:27
on my allotment than the white variety
6:29
so I've continued to grow the purple
6:31
variety of cify now that was just trial
6:34
and error because I got a free packet of
6:35
seeds we magazine so I thought I'm going
6:37
to give them a try and wow they did
6:39
fantastic the crop was amazing so yeah
6:43
try different varieties this year try
6:45
new things down at your alotment or in
6:47
the garden and let me know how you get
6:50
on so that has been our episode for
6:53
today I hope you've enjoyed it like I
6:55
said let me know in the comments if
6:57
you're going to be trying different
6:58
stuff this year or new arties and let me
7:01
know how you get on until next time
7:03
everyone remember keep smiling keep
7:05
shining and keep gardening with Ben
