What flowers can you sew in September?
0:04
Welcome to Gardening with Ben. I hope
0:06
you're all well. I hope you've all
0:08
watched the video of what vegetables you
0:10
can plant in September. Now, we're
0:13
talking about what flowers you can sew
0:15
in September, ready for next year and
0:18
the years to come. So, there's three
0:21
types of flowers that you can sew, which
0:23
are annuals, bianials, and perennials.
0:26
We'll start with annuals first, which
0:28
means that they will only flower one
0:30
year and then you'll need to sew them
0:33
again to flower the next year. So the
0:35
first up on the list is colundula.
0:38
Colundela is a beautiful flower. You can
0:40
still get some flowers from it now and
0:42
sewing them now. They will flower as
0:45
well next year and they do spread like
0:48
weeds. So if you don't mind them
0:49
spreading, definitely sew them and they
0:52
can add some beautiful color to your
0:54
gardens and a lotments. Next up is
0:56
Nigella seeds. And yes, you can get
0:59
these as bird seed, but you can also sew
1:02
them as flowers as well. They're
1:03
absolutely gorgeous to have in the
1:06
garden and the a lotment. Next up is
1:09
corn flowers. Now, corn flowers are a
1:11
beautiful color and they add some real
1:14
beauty to the garden and the a lotment.
1:16
So, have a try and see how well you grow
1:19
it. I've grown it before and it's so
1:20
easy to grow as well. Last up in the
1:23
annuals is lark spur. Another great
1:26
addition to the garden and a lotment.
1:28
Next up is bianials which means that
1:30
you'll be sewing them this year and
1:32
they'll possibly flower next year down
1:34
at the garden in the summertime. So the
1:37
first up on the list is sweet william. A
1:40
nice scented flower. Now I've sewn some
1:44
this year. First time trying to sew
1:46
sweet william. I've never grown them
1:47
before. So fingers crossed we do get
1:49
some growing down here for next year.
1:52
Next up is wall flowers. Another one
1:54
which adds some great autumn color to
1:56
the a lotment and garden. Now you can
1:58
buy plants now what are be flowering
2:01
later on in the year and into next year
2:04
but you can sew them now ready for next
2:06
year's growth. Another one fantastic for
2:09
the bees and the bees absolutely love
2:11
them and that's fox gloves. And they
2:13
grow nice and tall. Great for country
2:16
gardens or in borders. Absolutely
2:19
beautiful and like I said, they attract
2:20
the bees and the bees are what you need
2:22
to help with pollination. Another tall
2:25
one is holly hawks. I'm trying them as
2:28
well this year hopefully to add some
2:30
beautiful color to the garden. And yes,
2:32
they are tall as well. Finally are the
2:35
perennials. The perennials are the ones
2:36
which grow back year after year and
2:38
they'll flower every single year,
2:40
fingers crossed. And yeah, it's a lot
2:44
cheaper than buying them yourself. So
2:45
why not try and sew some perennials this
2:47
month. The perennials that you can sew
2:50
this month are aliniums. Another
2:53
fantastic huge flower and add some great
2:56
beauty to the plot and garden. I've sewn
2:58
some of them. Hopefully we'll get some
3:00
next year. If not, I'll have to cheat
3:02
and buy some. Another one which spreads
3:04
everywhere is aqualia. Now these send
3:07
out the seed pods and they'll flower
3:09
everywhere. So watch out where you're
3:10
going to be sewing them. If you don't
3:12
mind them spreading, sew some in the
3:14
garden and the a lotment. Last up, which
3:17
I've sewn from seed many times and done
3:19
really successful with are loopins. Now
3:22
sewing loopins this year, you'll get
3:24
small plants next year, but then the
3:26
year after they'll be absolutely huge.
3:28
So add some great color to the garden
3:31
and great flowers on them as well. So
3:33
grow some loopins and let me know how
3:35
you get on. So that is the flowers that
3:38
you can sew this month. Make sure you
3:40
share it to all your gardening friends
3:42
and a lotment friends. Give us a follow
3:44
to stay up to date with all our videos.
3:46
Until next time everyone, remember keep
3:48
smiling, keep shining and keep gardening
3:50
with Ben everyone.
