This video explains how to plant amaryllis bulbs and care for them to encourage reliable flowering. I cover pot choice, planting depth, watering, light levels, and simple maintenance that supports strong blooms. It is helpful for gardeners wanting successful indoor flowering plants and easy bulb care guidance.

Let's plant our Christmas amarillas.
0:03
Welcome to Gardening with Ben. And in
0:05
today's video, we're going to be
0:06
planting our Christmas Amarillises.
0:09
We've got three of these. We've got a
0:12
red one, we have got a white one, and we
0:17
have got a pink one. So, yeah, we've got
0:22
three amarillis to plant, which I am
0:24
looking forward to. Usually we just grow
0:26
one, but I saw all three colors and I
0:29
thought, why not? Why not plant them
0:30
all, so yeah, we've got all three of
0:33
these amorillis. Now, you can get these
0:35
from most garden centers and wholesale
0:38
stores. They're selling them now, and
0:41
they take about 16 weeks to flower, so
0:44
possibly looking around January time.
0:47
Now the main thing with amorillis is
0:49
that you don't cover them fully with
0:51
compost and you don't water them after
0:54
you've watered them the first time. You
0:56
water them when they start to flower. So
1:00
these can grow really really tall. So
1:02
make sure you're growing them somewhere
1:03
warm, somewhere with sunlight and yeah,
1:07
grow them in your house or your flat. So
1:10
let's get these out. Let's get these
1:12
planted and then we'll take them home to
1:15
start them growing and hopefully get
1:17
some beautiful flowers on them. I wonder
1:19
which one's going to flower first. I'm
1:21
guessing the red one. Let me know in the
1:23
comments which one you think will flower
1:25
first.
1:27
Now, these are the packs that we've got
1:28
a bit. We've got the pink one, we got
1:32
the red one, and we've got the white
1:33
one. Now, the pink bulb is absolutely
1:36
massive compared to the other two. So,
1:38
I'm guessing that might have more
1:40
flowers on it than the other ones, but
1:42
we'll see. We'll see how well they get
1:44
on. As you can see, they're starting to
1:47
come to life already. So, yeah, we do
1:49
need to get these in the ground and get
1:52
them planted in these pots. They used to
1:54
come in uh actual proper pots, but it
1:58
looks like they've just given you
1:59
plastic pots now, which I'm not too keen
2:01
on. But we'll see if if we've got some
2:04
proper pots to put them in to take them
2:06
home. Now, they've actually put proper
2:08
compost in. Before, it's been that one
2:10
that you put water on it to expand it,
2:14
but it looks like we've got some proper
2:15
compost in these. So, yeah, let's get
2:18
them in the compost and ready to take
2:21
home.
2:23
Now, there's no holes in these pots. So,
2:26
if you are wanting to put them in a
2:27
proper pot, you'll obviously need to put
2:29
holes in them for drainage. Uh, so
2:32
that's what we will do. But we'll put
2:33
some holes in them so that they can
2:35
drain and let the water out.
2:38
So, I've now put plenty of holes in them
2:40
so that they get plenty of drainage and
2:42
they don't get too water locked. So,
2:45
yeah, let's get the bulbs in.
2:49
So, they're not the best pots that I
2:50
found, but they will do. They will do.
2:53
This one's all right. This one's just
2:54
the right size, but these two and
2:56
they're struggling to fit in. But oh
2:58
well, they'll do. But yeah, just to
3:01
remind myself that the pink ones in the
3:03
gray one, the red ones in the white one,
3:07
and the white ones in the purple one.
3:10
So, let's take these home. I'm not going
3:13
to water them here cuz obviously I don't
3:14
want water getting everywhere on the way
3:16
home. So, we're going to take them home,
3:18
give them some water, and put them in a
3:21
nice sunny position.
3:24
So, I've now brought them home and I've
3:26
labeled them up so that I know which
3:27
ones are which as I found better pots to
3:30
fit them in, which is better. They fit
3:32
nicely snug into them. So, yeah, we just
3:34
need to give them a water and hopefully
3:36
they'll get growing. I just need to make
3:38
sure it shoots pop upwards. But, if
3:40
they're in a well lit place, they'll go
3:42
towards the sun. So, you might have to
3:44
keep turning them around. And we've also
3:46
found last year's out as well, which has
3:48
got two bulbs on it. It's got like a
3:50
little side shoot popping out of it. So,
3:52
we might get two plants growing off that
3:54
one. But yeah, let's give them a water
3:56
and get them going.
3:58
So, we've now given them a nice little
4:00
drink of water. Not too much, but
4:02
hopefully enough to get them growing.
4:04
And we'll probably won't water them
4:05
again until they start to flower cuz
4:07
that's what I usually do, apparently.
4:09
So, they say that it should take about
4:11
16 weeks for them to flower. So, we'll
4:13
see. It might be January or it might be
4:15
earlier in Christmas. We'll see. But I
4:17
don't know what color that one is. I
4:18
think it's red. But yeah, let's hope
4:22
they grow well.
4:24
Make sure you follow us on Facebook and
4:27
on Instagram because I'll be sharing on
4:29
my stories how well they're getting on.
4:31
So, if you don't check out my stories,
4:32
check out my Facebook and Instagram
4:34
stories and you will be able to see how
4:36
well they're getting on and which one's
4:38
winning. Until next time everyone,
4:41
remember keep smiling, keep shining, and
4:43
keep gardening with Ben everyone.
