This video explains how to create a wildlife-friendly garden that supports birds, insects and pollinators. Learn how to provide food, water and shelter using suitable plants and natural garden features.
The guide covers planting nectar-rich flowers, adding water sources and creating safe habitats for beneficial insects and visiting birds. These simple changes help improve biodiversity while also supporting plant pollination.
If you want to encourage more wildlife into your outdoor space, this video provides practical steps suitable for gardens, raised beds and small growing areas.

hey everyone and welcome to gardening
0:02
with Ben in today's video we're going to
0:04
talk about making your garden allotments
0:07
Wild Life friendly what can you do to
0:10
make them Wild Life friendly
0:13
[Music]
0:32
well down here on the alotment obviously
0:35
I have my bird feeders which I'm feeding
0:38
the birds all through the winter months
0:40
I don't tend to feed them through the uh
0:42
summer months and stuff like that
0:43
because there's lots of berries and
0:45
everything growing down here so they
0:46
have plenty of food to keep them going
0:48
but I'll keep feeding them all the way
0:50
up to like April May time when there's
0:54
not much around for them to eat and
0:57
obviously I've got my bird houses where
1:00
I have blue tis in them we've clean them
1:03
out if you've got bird houses clean them
1:05
out during the winter months ready for
1:07
spring ready for when they start looking
1:09
somewhere to nest because they won't
1:11
move into the birdhouse if there's any
1:14
signs of life in there from previously
1:18
uh so you've got to clean them out every
1:19
single year and since I've started doing
1:22
that we have been getting bluetits in my
1:25
bird houses every year uh which has been
1:27
absolutely fantastic they've been laying
1:29
their eggs and the little blue tis being
1:31
fledging from it it's been absolutely
1:33
fantastic to see see the parents just
1:36
flying in and out all the time in and
1:38
out and bringing little uh books back
1:42
from twet and everything like that it's
1:44
absolutely brilliant to see obviously
1:46
you can have a pond as well which uh
1:49
will attract the frogs and yeah I want
1:53
to get more frogs down here because
1:55
obviously they go around at night eating
1:57
all the slgs up eating all the stales up
2:00
and the less slugs and snails the better
2:03
so the more folks you get at your plot
2:05
eating stuff it's absolutely tons better
2:08
so if you're able to have a pond in your
2:10
alotment or in your garden have one and
2:12
encourage the frogs and Wildlife to come
2:15
to that so let's have a look at some of
2:17
the stuff what I've got down at my
2:20
alotment so these are my two bird houses
2:23
we had birds in both of them last year
2:26
they absolutely loved
2:28
them the first time put the bird houses
2:30
up literally the blue tis moved in
2:33
within 2 days it absolutely fantastic to
2:35
see I couldn't believe it so I've
2:37
obviously placed them in a good position
2:39
for them to find them and obviously I
2:42
have my bird feeders nearby so that
2:44
encourages the birds to come down as
2:47
well and then they'll see the houses to
2:50
stay in so these have got seed in these
2:52
ones which a lot of smaller birds in
2:56
Jo and then we've got that bird feeder
2:59
as well we've got that little thing
3:01
around it to stop the squirrels from
3:02
climbing up and eating them all but
3:04
they're managing to get on it somehow
3:06
and have stuff so we've got to keep an
3:08
eye on Mr squirrel and hopefully feed
3:11
them we've got the sew as well the sew
3:15
feeder which they love that because it
3:18
gives them fat and energy throughout the
3:20
winter months and we've also got a
3:23
wildlife cam up as well to hopefully
3:25
capture any Wildlife that we do see
3:28
coming down here on the alot
3:30
which will be amazing to
3:33
see you can also get these little
3:35
ladybug houses where they'll go in the
3:37
holes nest in them and hibernate over
3:40
winter months so we've got some little
3:43
ladybird houses down here to help the
3:48
ladybugs we obviously help the bees as
3:50
well down here on the o and the way that
3:53
we help the bees is we plant loads of
3:55
spring bulbs because of the first things
3:57
that they have around when they wake up
3:59
from iation to get the pollen and the
4:01
next F to give them the energy for the
4:03
year ahead and obviously we'll grow lots
4:06
of different flowers as well down here
4:08
but one of my main things for next year
4:11
is I'm possibly going to look at how to
4:14
help the butterflies we want to get more
4:16
butterflies down here on the alotment
4:18
and obviously they'll be coming less and
4:20
less butterflies so we're going to look
4:22
at methods of attracting butterflies and
4:24
encouraging them to come down onto my
4:26
allotment so if anybody's got any tips
4:28
about getting butter flies onto the
4:30
alment and how to help them let me know
4:32
in the comments I'm always up to
4:33
learning obviously there's like Bud Lea
4:36
which butterflies absolutely love but
4:38
yeah I'm going to look at different
4:39
methods of attracting butterflies to the
4:42
alotment and what can attract them so
4:44
let me know in the comments if you've
4:46
got much Wildlife going off in your
4:47
alotment or garden I'm always up for
4:50
hearing about it and
4:52
yeah I hope that you've enjoyed this
4:54
video If you're not giving us a follow
4:56
give us a follow and you'll be able to
4:59
stay up to date with all our videos that
5:02
we put out there and yeah feel free to
5:05
like comment and share this video as
5:08
well so until next time everyone
5:10
remember keep smiling keep shining and
5:12
keep gardening with Ben everyone
