Let's start today's episode. So welcome to today's episode. Today's episode we are going to be talking about garden birds
0:45
Yes, not necessarily about gardening, but we're going to talk about looking after the garden birds at home or at the allotment
0:53
So around this time of year it is really bad for being able to get food to the birds as the ground is hard, frozen, they won't be able to get the worms out of the ground
1:08
plus there might be snow on the ground so birds can't get to it and also there's
1:14
not much fruit around from to eat off the trees or off the bushes a lot of it will have died back now so all the berries will have disappeared and the birds need looking after into in our gardens so one of the reasons why we need to
1:33
look after the birds is that obviously they will eat the insects what aren't needed in the garden
1:39
they'll eat the slugs which we don't want on the plot we definitely don't want the slugs on the plot
1:44
so it's vital that we do look after the garden birds and the way that we can look after the
1:50
garden birds is by putting some garden feeders out in the garden and putting some seed into it
1:57
the garden the bird seeds not that expensive and also if you've got children or grandchildren
2:04
you can make your own bird feeders you don't have to buy one of these posh looking bird feeders
2:10
you can just make one out of a pop bottle and just fill it with garden seed that's got holes in it
2:18
so have a look online there's plenty of tutorials on how to make your own bird feeders and obviously
2:26
a lot of people have pop bottles so it's good to be able to recycle and reuse them to help nature
2:34
give something back yourself and obviously if you've got bird feeders in your garden
2:40
the joy you can get from seeing what birds actually come into the garden just sit at your window or away from the bird feeder on your allotment sit back in your garden bench and watch what
2:54
birds come into the garden. It's great to see the different varieties that we do have
2:59
in the garden. And it's always a joy and a pleasure to see the blue ticks, definitely
3:07
the blue ticks and the grey ticks and the finches come to the garden because they're all different
3:14
colours beautiful looking and they will love them you can obviously if you want put a bird house in
3:23
the garden and maybe you'll get some birds nesting in there and if you get some birds nesting in your
3:30
garden then they will definitely be using the bird feeders on a regular occasion so that is one of the
3:36
main important reasons why we need to look after the garden birds to help them will help us in the
3:45
combat against eating all the unwanted insects and the slugs in the garden so your job this week
3:54
is to put up a bird feeder if you've not got one let me know send me a message send me some pictures
4:01
on my social media of you having your bird feeders in the garden and showing what birds actually come and eat from your bird feeders and i hope that we can give a little bit back to nature so that has been our short little
