and welcome to Gardening with Ben in
0:03
today's video we're going to be sorting
0:05
out our tomato plants as you remember we
0:08
planted all our tomatoes the other week
0:10
and got them all into pots these are the
0:13
ones that I purchased from the shop as I
0:15
wanted some that were well established
0:17
and getting growing so what we need to
0:19
do is we need to start getting them
0:21
ready for growing properly they've taken
0:24
root and they're starting to get bigger
0:26
so we need to support them we need to
0:28
tidy them up and we need to get them
0:30
growing into big tomato plants so that
0:33
they produce lots of fruit this
0:35
summertime hopefully lots of fruit but
0:39
yeah we need to get them all ready and
0:41
we need to give them a good feed and get
0:43
them getting going and we're going to
0:46
show you how we get our tomatoes and how
0:49
we look after them and yeah I hope you
0:52
enjoy today's episode so let's have a
0:53
look at our tomato plants so these are
0:55
our tomato plants we have got sweet
0:58
million and we have also got super steak
1:02
varieties we've got five of each so we
1:05
should get a good crop from these but as
1:07
you can see they're getting bigger now
1:09
so we need to tidy them up get them tied
1:12
up and tidy the leaves up what are
1:15
growing off them all so let's get our
1:18
canes
1:20
in so we've got all our canes in against
1:24
our tomatoes so the next thing to do is
1:27
we put a plant pot on top of them to
1:31
stop us falling over and poking his eye
1:33
out safety comes first we're gardening
1:35
everybody there we are we just put a
1:37
little plant pot on top obviously if
1:40
you've got cane stoppers then they're
1:42
good as well so yeah let's get them all
1:44
tied up now so when you're tying them up
1:47
you don't want to tie them too tight or
1:49
it'll dig into their stem you want them
1:52
to have room to expand and to grow and
1:55
to get growing so yeah so what we do
1:59
next is then I take off these bottom
2:02
leaves because we don't need them we
2:04
don't need the bottom leaf
2:10
growth i'm going to take off that one as
2:12
well but if you can see there in the
2:16
middle between that leaf there is
2:18
another shoot and that is what takes
2:22
away all it makes it more bushier and we
2:26
don't want it bushy we want it to grow
2:27
tall so we need to take that off but
2:30
what you can do is you can actually
2:35
plant them and get another tomato plant
2:38
so if you're wanting some extra tomato
2:40
plants feel free to take them off and
2:43
get some extra tomato plants growing so
2:46
we've taken them bottom leaves off like
2:47
that so we just need to check for any
2:49
that are growing in between like that
2:52
one take that
2:54
off and there's no other ones on this
2:58
one but look we got some flowers growing
3:01
the tomatoes are starting to grow so
3:03
yeah we need to give them some food as
3:07
well so they're all now tied up and
3:10
we've stripped all the leaves and the
3:12
growth off the bottom what we're going
3:14
to do next week is we're going to fill
3:15
up these with more compost as as I said
3:18
in one of my previous videos it sinks
3:20
down once you get it watered and wet and
3:23
obviously if we fill them up with
3:24
compost the roots will start to grow
3:27
from underneath where we fill it up to
3:29
so it'll make them more bigger and
3:33
produce hopefully more tomatoes because
3:35
there'll be more roots coming from it
3:36
and it can drink the water better to
3:38
produce better fruits so that is what
3:41
we're doing next week so now we're going
3:42
to give them a bit of food to kickstart
3:45
them for the week so all we use is our
3:48
fid fish blood and bone and we just
3:50
sprinkle some around the base of the
3:52
plants don't get it on the plants
3:54
because it will burn them so let's just
3:56
sprinkle some around the plants so there
3:59
we are we fed them all so the next key
4:01
ingredient is obviously give them a good
4:03
watering now tomatoes all need watering
4:06
literally every one to two days so
4:09
you've got to keep up with the watering
4:10
with tomato plants so let's give them a
4:13
good drink and there we have it some
4:15
happy tomato plants hopefully we'll get
4:18
lots and lots of fruit off them this
4:20
year but make sure you stay tuned for
4:22
