Sowing and Planting
When choosing the area for Jerusalem Artichoke you don’t have to be too fussy they can grow in the poorest of soils. You can even grow them in the same area year on year.
When to plant
You can plant Jerusalem Artichoke from March to April. They are not grown from seed but from tubers that you can buy online or from a garden centre.
Varieties
There are two types of Jerusalem Artichoke that you can try and grow. These are:-
- Gerrard and Fuseau
Planting
When it comes to planting Jerusalem Artichoke they can be planted from early to mid spring time. They need to be planted around 15cm deep and around 60cm apart. They can also be grown in large pots.
Growing
Jerusalem Artichoke do not need much attention or any food to make them grow they are very easy at looking after themselves. Once they reach around 30cm high pile up the soil around them to help stabilize the plants.
Harvesting
Jerusalem Artichoke take a long time to grow so don’t be eager for them they take around 40-50 weeks to grow. Harvest them only when you need them.
